Great, great Stuff Mr. Hunk! I have followed silently here and over on Warseer, actually I have read every single PCRC thread there is to find. The Team Fisto Threads was one of the Reasons to finally start my own push for a 5th Company  Army.Your Campaigns are inspiring and pure awesomesauce, something to aim at for every Hobby Group. Can`t wait for your Guys to progress with your current Campaign, the lead in Battle was left me at the edge of my Seat!

Thank you very much, that's very kind of you to say so. :) We're just pleased to hear that at least one person is reading them, haha! ;) Yes, we started our current campaign (link for anyone who is interested), then all immediately got sidetracked! I have seen some painting progress from the others over recent days though... :whistling:

Mr Bob is a bit talented.

Haha, cheers. :) I think we're all very talented here on the B&C Work in Progress forums though. :)

This weekend I was privileged to take part in an Age of Darkness game at Warhammer World. A full report of 'The Battle of Byblos' game will appear on Apologist's blog, but in the meantime here are a few highlights.

An event that would have been classed as a major engagement elsewhere, the taking of the Iron Warriors cruiser Boeotian was but one more lightning strike amongst the maelstrom at Phall. Boarded by elements of the Imperial Fists 5th Company in the closing hours of the battle, the forces under the command of Shield-Captain Peyton attempted to wrest control of the cruiser from the IV Legion and join their brothers answering Dorn's call to return to Terra.

- Extract from The Praetorians of Terra: A History of the VII Legion, Vol XXVI, circa 900.M32

Rules and Mission

This Imperial Fist boarding action of an Iron Warriors cruiser is played using the 3rd edition Space Hulk rules, with both players playing as the Marines. A Marine with a bolter followed all the rules for a Terminator with storm bolter and power fist, a Marine with flamer followed the rules for a Terminator with heavy flamer and power fist, and a Marine Sergeant with close combat weapon and bolter followed all the rules for a Terminator Sergeant with power sword and storm bolter. Each player had their own secret command points pool generated at the start of each turn with the roll of a dice and concealed under a mug.

The heavy flamer rules were modified to kill on a 3+, rather than a 2+. Otherwise, no other rules were altered.

The mission is to seize the secondary override controls for the ship's Gellar field. If the Imperial Fists boarding parties can raise the Gellar field then they can potential follow the withdrawing loyalist fleet into the warp with their captured prize. Alternatively the Iron Warriors can seize the controls and lock-out any further attempts at access. Seizing the controls (and thus winning the game) requires a Marine to send 4APs in one go while stood in front of the access terminal.

An alternative account, from the point of view of the IV Legion, can be found on Apologist's blog here.

...just as the Iron Warriors counter assault squad also arrive in the area.

An Imperial Fist covers the corridor as his brothers sprint across.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto557_zpsblhodtyx.jpg

The Fist covering the corridor steps clear as the flamer armed Marine hoses an intersection with promethium. Oaths and curses are heard over the comm-net, but the plate of the IV Legion doesn't let them down.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto558_zpscfvzl6nq.jpg

Clear of the deadly corridor kill-zone, the Sergeant leads his men through the maze of doors and twisting corridors. The layout of the ship is familiar to the Loyalist, yet somehow subtly different.

The Sergeant and one other Marine escape the Iron Warrior's trap, but one unlucky brother of the VII is gunned down. The murderous Iron Warrior ducks into cover to avoid reprisals.

The dour Iron Warriors advance on the Gellar field controls, a dark mirror to the glorious Imperial Fists.

The Marine with the flamer attempts to flush his enemy out of cover, but again the armour of the Iron Warriors proves effective against the flames!

The Imperial Fist Sergeant uses the time bought by his brothers wisely...

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto564_zpsmu9pdqpd.jpg

...and prepares to seize control of the approach to the Gellar field controls...

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto565_zpsnq8dkikb.jpg

...however the seemingly fire-proof Iron Warrior reaches the area first and sets up in overwatch, covering the door.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto566_zpssut76xgm.jpg

Fortunately for the Imperial Fists, the Marine covering the first corridor is able to outflank the ambush and (finally) kill the Iron Warrior. Seizing the advantage offered by this gap in the enemy lines, the Imperial Fist Sergeant sprints forward and makes the door to the control room.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto567_zpsuye2rcd2.jpg

The Iron Warriors advance cautiously, reluctant to brave the potential cross-fire at the intersection.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto568_zpsu6f05nrh.jpg

The Imperial Fists Sergeant opens the door and then backs slowly into the control room, wary of taking his attention away from the intersection.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto569_zpsf8kx8ty0.jpg

The Iron Warriors realise that if they don't advance now, their cause will be lost.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto571_zpshpoejtgm.jpg

An Iron Warrior rushes the overwatching Imperial Fist who previously outflanked the ambush. There is a furious and deafening point-blank exchange of bolter fire...

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto572_zpsy7upc5mz.jpg

...but when the smoke clears the Iron Warrior lays in a crumpled heap at the foot of the Imperial Fist!

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto570_zpsljhfm38p.jpg

Unwilling to follow his brother to the same fate, the remaining Iron Warrior at the control room intersection raises his bolter and waits.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto573_zps4rlmxswh.jpg

One of the remaining Iron Warriors attempts to jump the Imperial Fist from behind. But the scion of Dorn survives his treacherous attack, whirls around and blows apart the enemy Legionary!

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto574_zpsfqywxhd8.jpg

With resistance eliminated, the Imperial Fist Sergeant accesses the field control, raising the Gellar field and preparing the Boeotian to follow the Imperial Fist fleet into the warp...

Cheers guys! :D

Dude... even his bionic eye lights up. You're clinically insane.

+ The Taking of the Boeotian

+ Part 2

Mission

The Imperial Fists are defending the captured engineering deck. If they can hold out for 18 turns then it will be too late for the Iron Warriors to restore the cruiser to their control, and the Boeotian will be bound for Terra with the rest of the retreating VII Legion fleet. The Iron Warriors must kill all the Imperial Fists by the end of Turn 18 to restore control of the engines and win the game.

The Imperial Fists start with seven Marines and deploy with a maximum of two and a minimum of one in each room (except the north-most room). The Iron Warriors have ten Marines that are divided into the 'first wave' and 'reinforcements' in any way desired.

The Iron Warriors get the first turn. The 'first wave' can only use the southern most entrances and must 'lurk' off the board for the first turn. The 'reinforcements' can enter from turn four onwards and may use any of the entry points on the map.

The Game

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto575_zpssd5h7xcw.jpg

The Imperial Fists deploy with a dispersed deployment, covering many possible avenues of approach.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto576_zpsy9sxhjcb.jpg

As the Iron Warriors begin to amass at one end, the Fists prepare to draw their defensive lines tighter.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto577_zpsdugkc39x.jpg

Disaster! An unexpectedly agressive advance from the IV Legion catches the Imperial Fists off guard, and two battle brothers pay the price!

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto578_zpsrm28uyqs.jpg

The Iron Warriors comprehensively secure the southern end of the engineering deck.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto579_zpsoeni3jgc.jpg

The Imperial Fists redeploy to meet the threat, cautiously making short dashes between cover.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto580_zpsyvfsf5bi.jpg

As the Imperial Fists fall back, the Iron Warriors prepare to advance.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto581_zpsbpaocux2.jpg

The Iron Warrior on point presses his advantage, murdering a third Imperial Fist, but thankfully failing to find his mark as he shoots at a distant fourth target.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto582_zpsyv6jjc4c.jpg

The Fists are again forced to reorganise their defensive lines.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto584_zpskfft9qid.jpg

The Iron Warriors - under the taciturn gaze of their Sergeant - secure the intersections.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto585_zpsvfzzcbd5.jpg

The Iron Warriors decide not to push their luck, and their advance becomes more cautious.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto586_zpsfjadqgkk.jpg

Realising their aren't enough of them left to cover all potential approaches, the Imperial Fists attempt to fall back to a more secure position.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto587_zpsxs3lejei.jpg

Outflanking reinforcements catch the Imperial Fists in a crossfire with the main Iron Warriors advance and another two battle brothers are gunned down!

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto588_zpsm93yaeu3.jpg

The methodical IV Legion advance continues.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto590_zps1gz8cx6n.jpg

With a roar of cold rage, a lone Imperial Fist guns down three Iron Warriors with three perfect head shots, stalling their advance on the eastern flank!

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto591_zpsmnuzm2e9.jpg

With that small measure of vengeance taken, the Fist ducks into the corridor to follow his Sergeant into the heart of the engineering deck.

The outer rooms fall to the Iron Warriors.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto593_zpskn5xhrri.jpg

The Imperial Fists assume overwatch positions and prepare to sell their lives dearly.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto594_zpsbbrfww2z.jpg

The Iron Warriors gather their strength for the final push.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto595_zps2ertdhgn.jpg

One of the Imperial Fists risks a shot around the corner but is felled in a brief exchange of fire! The Fists Sergeant grits his teeth and prepares to receive the inevitable charge.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/Bob_Hunk/Miniatures%20-%20Imperial%20Fists/Fisto596_zpsyamfhxse.jpg

The Iron Warriors finally storm into the room, bolters blazing. When the smoke clears, there are no Imperial Fists left standing.

+ Game 1 - Imperial Fist Victory

+ Game 2 - Iron Warrior Victory

+ Final Result - Draw

Although the Iron Warriors were able to dislodge the Imperial Fists from the engineering deck, they could not re-establish control of the Boeotian in time to prevent the venerable cruiser being dragged into the Empyrean in the wake of the departing Loyalist fleet. Rudderless and at the mercy of the tides, and with bitter conflict still blazing in her corridors, the Boeotian finally washed up on the shores of Ultramar, bringing Peyton and the 5th Company squads under his command into the realm of the Ultramarines and Imperium Secundus...

Conclusion

Thanks for all the positive comments and feedback everyone. :) Playing Marines vs Marines with the Space Hulk rules is a lot of fun! :biggrin.: Although both games were enjoyable, I think we found the first one more nail-biting and tense. As a result, we'd recommend trying missions with a neutral objective rather than attack/defence missions, as these can devolve into overwatch stand-offs. In any case, we're looking forward to trying some more missions soon!

Really loved both your battle reports, and especially the insight into the rules-set you're using. It opens up scope for modelling opportunities based around the rules provided in Space Hulk - the storm shield provides scope for breachers, the lightning claws would work well for Apologist's praetor with the two axes, and a Librarian...? That would be interesting.

It was interesting to see bits about how one marine gunned down three others and such - made me wonder about a "true grit" style rule where Marines could stand again and rejoin the fight, but then I thought it really encapsulated the utter brutality of marine-vs-marine combat.

Really lovely stuff.
