If anyone else decides to use Marauder heads on their scouts, the beards will need trimmed for the rifles to fit right. I didn't trim the above scouts beard enough and ended up with a small gap at the right shoulder.

Thank you Amarog. I was worried about the camo being too colorful but the earthshade wash toned everything down and helped blend the colors. Was hoping the brown I used on the boots and armour would look like red tinged leather, think it worked out. With the way this turned out I know how to paint my TWC riders now :)

It definately worked. Really great weathered / toned down camouflage-esque look. As it should be for a veteran of stealth and cunning.

I should have a pic of my WGBL with jump pack up soon. While I wait for his frist blade to dry I'm cooking dinner. Not sure how the frost blade will be as I'm trying something I did when playing Chainmail years ago with an attempt at making a wash. Basically base with electric blue, white dry brush (used on an ice elemental, easiest model ever to paint :biggrin.:), silver wash is a new step to attempt a metallic tone.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get some bits in the mail and pick some others up after work. Won the better part of 3 upgrade sprues with 10 marines on 1 bid and on unassembled old style Rhino :biggrin.: The seller lives across the river from where I work so hopefully I can meet him after work :biggrin.:

Edit: My WGBL should be ready to go

Just got my bits from the mailbox :D Knocked this Rune Priest together but I don't know what to with his right hand. The horn is tacked in at the moment. Thought about turning it around so he looks like he is drinking ale while watching the youngsters get down to business. Any suggestions? This is Sone Sharp-Sight, oldest member of Orm's Warband (don't think I'll get to full Great Company numbers without going to other books).

First a bit from the Long Ships

His name was Sone the Sharp-Sighted, and he was so old that the two men who were seated next to him took hold of his arms to help him get up; but he brushed them angrily away, hobbled nimbly forward to the Stone, and took his stand beside Ugge. He was a tall and scraggy man, desiccated and bent crooked with age, with a long nose and thin wisps of mottled beard; and although the day was fine and the late summer sun shone warmly, he wore a skin coat reaching to his knees, and a thick cap of fox fur. He looked immeasurably wise and had had a great reputation for as long as anyone could remember. His sharp-sightedness was famous; he could find where hidden treasure lay, and could look into the future and foretell the bad luck that lay there. In addition to all this, he had been married seven times and had twenty-three sons and eleven daughters; and it was said that he was doing his best to get round dozens of both, which made him much admired and honored by all the G

Hopefully in a week I will have new TDAWG to paint. Found a bundle of 6 on ebay that will let me fill out my Terminator desires for $24 :D was a lot of 3 hammernator, 1 AsCan/Chainfist, 2 Stormbolter/Power Weapon to do something with. 2 Hammernators will join my assault pack currently consisting of 1 Hammernator and 2 with Dual Wolf Claws. May convert the 2 with Stormbolters into Combimeltas and team with the last Hammernator. AsCan will probably turn into Toke. Have 4 other TDA at home that need finished and assigned as well. I like painting TDA, easier to hang on to and bigger details :D

My new TDAWG are scrubbing slowly :( Have scrubbed them 3 times but the heavy primer they came with is being stubborn. I am seeing results just not at the speed I want.

In the mean time I have started working on 8 power armour bodies as my Wolf Lord's personal retinue. The number is more so I can fit them with Lord Orm and Wolf Priest Willibald in a pod or Rhino. Been looking back and forth between Hunters and PAWG and thinking Hunters for this. For 153 points I get 8 Hunters with 3 weapons and a banner giving them 3 attacks base and bolters. For 144 I get 8 ws5 Guard with bolter and pistol or pistol and CCW giving me 2 attacks base and bolters or 3 attacks and pistols. I like the flexibility of the ultragrit Hunters but is it worth more than ws5 on Guard and giving up an attack or giving up bolters? I'm modeling them with pistols and fantasy dwarf axes and hammers so can be used either way, just curios what other Wolves think.

Now that that rambles over on to my current design issue. I'm not sure what to use for heads on these 8. Lately I've been thinking about going away from bare heads for most troops as bare heads in a fire fight are rather silly. I'd used beaky heads on my Bloodclaws and liked the look on them. I'm finding I don't like the helmets I have on the more wolfy units though (my claws are kinda bare of Wolf bits). Starting to think I should dig out the Marauder masked heads I got for my scouts. Does anyone have a favorite helmet from another kit or alternative miniatures company that fits the scifi barbarian Celt/Viking theme?

That they do and the knot work fits the theme better. Scales better than what comes in the kits. I'm working on a retinue for Orm that have small Dwarven hammers and axes in place of chainswords. Will have to take a pic when I get home. Think 6 are almost done. I'm running out of pistol and chainsword arms after the Skyclaws.

Finished the first rider. Not sure about all the metal though. Is more flashy than I planned but didn't want him as muted as my sniper scouts. Still some work to do on his mount. Not sure when I started painting the wolf but it's dusty base says it's been a while.

Wow, that looks rally good. I especially like the mask. Reminds me of the Space Wolves in a Thousand Sons & Prospero Burns, who wear lacquered masks, of twisted leather, some with snake like tails etc...

I may have to invest in some marauder heads now... You also made the shields work. I find them too small for my purposes, if you ever need more I can send them to you I have about 8-12 going spare

I was rather bummed about the shield size initially. Light cavalry tends to smaller shields so they work here, only a couple hairs smaller than TWC shields. I wasn't pleased with these riders until I added the Marauder pauldrons and the dwarf axe. Have plenty shields left for my Thunderwolf desires, thank you for the offer though ;)

The masked marauder heads made me think of those books as well. Really like them for Scouts over the 40k heads.

Need to finish the wolf now. Somewhere I have biker bed rolls I wanted to add to the mounts along with extra weapons, sheathed knife and pistol/bolter each.

Thank you for the compliment Dantay :) How's the move and new house working out?

I slammed hard on the brakes to my browser surfing for your post I hope you know…that looks wicked awesome Vykryl. Normally I don’t like the heavy wash because of how muggy it can make some things look but in this instance it’s to your benefit. It looks great.

Might sound daft, but what about the dwarf shoulderpads, or are they too small? I have been using them on my terminators as belts or kneepads. Although I like the rough & ready look of the ork pads.

Also, what about marauder or ork spears. for hunting or used as lances?

No worries, house move has been... Complicated.

I ended up doing a weeks overtime on a different rig so it gave me 2 days. Me and the old wolf, managed to get basically everything shifted to the new house barring a bed and a dining table, before I came back out here on my normal rotation.

Found out the boiler to the house was dangerous so there hasn't been any heating or hot water, as it got shut down. So I have spent most of my free time getting quotes and reports done, haggling with solicitors etc.... Eventually we got the sellers to stump up for the cost of fixing the boiler.

Also the carpets reek of damp dog, I have tried onions, bicarb etc to get rid of the smell. It is better, but its still there, so when I get back I will hire a carpet cleaner and sort the sucker out. Failing that new carpets :(

Wifey has been doing all the unpacking and tidying. She is a gem (even if she takes 3 days just to clean the kitchen cupboards)

Found out the day we got the house that my rig is shutting down 2 years early, so be looking for a new lair come summer 2016. Fingers crossed the oil industry picks up by then.

I may do some with spears on a couple riders, have plenty of marauder weapons still. The one posted was wielding a spear a few weeks ago. I tried to fashion him a power maul for the strength 7 but it didn't look right. Gave him a dwarf hammer but didn't like it. Decided to just give him an axe and be done for now. I just have 3 TWC for now and they each have a different dwarf axe. Will come up with something for a PL/WGBL and give him a maul/Thunder hammer. 2 more with spears and I'll have 1-2 good looking packs with a mix of weapons.

Didn't see dwarf pauldrons when looking. Found visors but they didn't suit me. I'd ordered the Marauder pauldrons for something and was disappointed at first, shaved down they fit well on my Scout riders :)

Too bad on the carpets. That's one good reason for no pets indoors.

You have a boiler in the house? May be a difference in terminology? I'm used to boilers being in large houses or apartment complexes that need high pressure because of building size. Smaller houses having water heaters that use the incoming water pressure to move the water around the building. It also heats the house?

A good wife is a treasure, one that keeps things running when your not there to help more so.

Oil should bounce back. With the drop in price people will stark sucking it up again. Over here people will start driving big cars, vans, suvs, trucks and create a demand that will up the costs again. Between that and the regulations driven by California and New York. Cheap fuels helps grow industry around the world, demand drives prices. It'll go back up even if it doesn't hit the same high point.

Thank you Fytharin. The grungy look works well on scouts. The amount of metal on him is what worries me most. He seems to reflective for stalking. I'm pleased with him for now though :)
