Skerr
What load out is that with? Are people finding the special waepons any good, or going for just the combi bolters or just the missile racks.Mostly 2 Hellfire missiles and 2 SRs. True it is a big investment though some of the posters are folks who i have seen on other tactics threads and like what they normally share. I think I would drop them in the back field or flank while support was rolling up to meet them so they are not completly unsupported or other threats are forcing my opponent to make toigh choices on target priority. As they are 10 I am less concerned with attrition than 5 man and in rapid fire range and combo with split fire seems like it would erase units. Hell I might even try it with heavy flamers. Thousand Eyes
Cultists versus Tzangors. 20 cultists, two flamers = some points. More ranged ability and auto hits with flamers. 20 Tzangors, instrument = 22 more points. Better saves, WS 3+ and -1 rending on weapons. I suppose it tends on what way you want to run them on the field but Tzangors are starting to appeal to me as being more on theme. Heliomanes
Tzaangors, brimstone horrors and scarab occult are my favorites from the gw index. You'll get a lot of value out of the tzaangors if you use them well and get them into the proper buff auras. Prot
Tzaangors have been my go to since release. I think the T4 , and invulnerable save with rerolls of 1's with Ahriman is just great anti assault or a really decent horde killer. It's just cheap enough and just stubby enough to make most of my lists. I still haven't been sold on Horrors personally, nor brimstones. On paper they just seem to fade too hard. I just had a game vs Ultramarines for the first time. Magnus was key, but the Tzaangors once again made deep strike and character assassination very difficult on my opponent. Heliomanes
Units of 9 brimstones and 1 blue horror are completely nuts. I had a game today where one of these units alone kept up an enemy maulerfiend for 3 full game turns. They are scoring, can pick up the relic or other "infantry only" type things, and can cast Smite on a 5+. T3 with a 4++, all for 23 points... Note also that the brimstones have 2 attacks each. Hitting on 5+ and wounding on 6s actually starts to matter when you roll dozens of dice, and pay almost nothing for them. Absolutely my go to way to get in troops choices for more command points, while I have plenty of points left for terminators and other hard hitters. Rune Priest Ridcully
Going to try them out in a couple of weeks against space wolves, thinking 10, 2 hellfyres and go the deepstrikign on central objectives/nearish the rest of the army. Also, has anyone had any luck with contemptors, sicarans (especially the Venator) and or the fliers? Archaeinox
I haven't touched Horrors much except for Brimstones. Why the single Blue? Thanks Edit: Nevermind, I see that blues don't get removed after they attempt Smite. Skerr
Facing Craftworlds Sat maybe a little Corsair mixed in. I expect jet bikes, wraith guard, farseers or Autarch, he loves Aspects in general and fast attacks including hornets. Maybe a wraith knight or Fire prism but i doubt it. Me and an old bro both playing our first few 8th ed games. Looking at 1250 and a powel level equivelent. Any one take on Elder and have some xp to share? Don't have my lists yet but looking at these guys to pick from. Ahriman 1-3 ES Demon Prince 1-2 rubrics w SR with some warp flamer for snokey flavor. Not opposed to a 5 man flamer unit delivered by rhino. 1-2 units of SOTs, a larger single unit or 2 5 man with all the fixins especially in PL. Tzangoor, Tzangoors, Txangoors Rhinos, a Pred, a brute, a drake and 2 Vindys. Naturally I can not work them all in at 1250 but this is what I am picking from. Sonoftherubric21
Heres a thought; Hellforged Scorpius. I have been tempted to get a Scorpius to cover any long-ranged needs our legion has, Easy enough to get a plastic whirlwind and add bits to it for a relatively cheap addition. Heavy 3d3 per turn is quite nice, so if it stays still your looking at 6d3 shots a turn hitting relatively hard, although points wise it is expensive. Added hilarious bonus; if someone assaults it it can eat them lol. Machina Malifica is a hilarious rule and creates odd imagery of a set of tracks eating a guy. Any thoughts? Looks like a decent option. Raven1
@Sonoftherubric, I always like to run things in pairs. I really like the Scorpios and I want to pick a whirlwind or two for the same reason. I have a question, for those of you who run Ahriman off the disc what size base are you using or did you just not have the disc on the provided base? Archaeinox
I put Ahriman on a 40mm and his disc is on a 50mm. 32mm is too small In fact, I wish that Ahriman was scaled to the size of the Exalted Sorcerers. but thats just me. He'd look so cool on a 32mm. I might even try to convert one.. Rune Priest Ridcully
Anyone had any luck painting the legion symbol? I've tried doing a variant of the pre Magnus scheme (burnt orange with pearlescent white trim) and decided to try freebrushing it as I wasn;t sure how the transfers would work, so did it in a oxford blue. The results... were mixed :P. Looks like a decent option. It is a pretty decent option. I'd like to suggest the Storm Eagle, since Ahriman frequently uses one in the fluff. My personal loadout is the 2 Twin Las and Twin Multi-Melta. Comes in at a hair under 400 points, but can transport one of those big 20 man squads and lays down some serious hurt. If you're fielding multiple 10 man squads or lots of characters, you can concentrate them all in the Eagle to reduce the number of drops. Using a combination of FW flyers like the Eagle and Daemon Engines backed up by the Changeling, it's possible to get an army together where your opponent is -1 to hit everything except your basic infantry. FYI, my personal experience with Horrors has been good. Exalted Flamers are also nice, since they have the nasty combination of FLY and a hard-hitting flame weapon, plus they can switch over to anti-tank if necessary. Prot
I just tried the horrors in 8 th and I really didn't find them as a replacement for Tzaangors but instead more of a different role. They really hate morale tests. I also think the solo (or in my case ) double blue helps. Still haven't tried any of my other Tzeentch Daemons. Flamers were cool but can't find the points. Zodd1888
I've found them able to slog pretty competently without many issues but I usually will try to take 1 transport in a list if I don't have any other mobile units (ie. Spawn) to take objectives. That said, a Rhino is the cost of a unit of Tzangors so I could see the draw to drop it for more bodies that can do work. In other words, IMO not auto-include but can be a good option. Consider taking a Land Raider instead to fulfill multiple roles if you've got one. Sonoftherubric21
You can *Definitively* footslog in 8th if you want. The rubrics are just SO tough for their points. Rhinos never go amiss though, if you plan on a unit with lots of flamers go with Rubrics in rhinos! Archaeinox
2k game today with 2 Rhinos for the first time in a while. Dark Angels mix of tacticals, devs, land raider crusader and 2 units of deathwing. I used Ahriman on Disc, 3 exalted on foot, 2 scarabs, predator with las and 20 rubricae in Rhinos. The exalteds stayed in relative safety for a while thanks to some manipulation of the other units of course and just Smited (Smote? Smoted) deathwing from the game as they approached. Ahriman helped but was mostly moving Rubrics into position for aggressive assaults. Not much to really say, I had hopped out and was walking the whole time. I ate everything that was sent at me, and the Rubrics even got into his deployment zone. Vs. the Hurricane bolters, bolters from dudes, and frag missiles, it's like I had 30 terminators on the table. I was able to remove most of the heavier weaponry that would ignore invuls with the Scarabs thanks to some precise target selection. I think Space Marines need a lot of help vs. us. Chapter Tactics will offer assistance. IMO these SM players are taking their licks very gracefully. Sure, he could have used different units and made some better choices, but I sort of felt like I knew how it would go at turn 2. You guys know me by now, I wouldn't try to be a cocky ass or anything but I was going to take pictures for a quick batrep but the whooping was so brutal I left the camera in the bag for the sake of my buddy.. who is probably reading this. Hate you, bruh I believe that average Space Marine players fight an uphill battle against Thousand Sons themed lists. In fact, many of our Space Marine players are switching to other armies temporarily until they get a codex. That Iron Hands player I used to cry over who whipped me with that Dreadnought spam list once Wrath of Magnus came out? Yeah, that army is in a bag now and the Ork Horde has risen. Prot
I agree with what you're saying Arch, but let me ask you...have you faced a Guilliman or chapter master aura with Centurions and Helblasters? I have played this to great effect but I will admit marine asked armies are in tough right now. I appreciate your grace in winning. Did you play that Blood Angel guy yet?
