Ok. Let's talk about Spawn.

What do you all use to represent them? The current spawn models are way too expensive for my tastes, so I was looking at alternatives.

Crypt horrors from the vampire range seem good, and I get bonus wings to add to prince conversons, but theyre maybe too...fantasy?

Ogres? Maybe mutated ogryns?

Bunches of crypt ghouls on a 40mm base to represent a horde of mutants unleashed before my army?

I use slightly converted Rat Ogres, which you can get quite cheap from ebay due to the the Blood Island box:

Well for my spawn are going to be werewolf's seeing that my company is base on wolfs (the iron hounds).

I just want a Novel. Most of the Honsu stuff is just short stories.

 

Would be nice to have something like Storm of Iron again.

I'd like to see a genuine home grown Iron Warrior take the lead in a novel though, Honsou is a hybrid of IW and IF and so suffers from the special snowflake syndrome which irritates me (I will add I quite like Honsou). I would want to see the likes of the Night Lords and Word Bearer  books, Veterans of the Long war but from the perspective of the Iron Warriors, how their politics play out and their industries, as by comparison the Night Lords are reduced to carrion compared to the Iron Warriors who have a home world, supply lines lots of guns, but not the chain of command of the Word Bearers, but Perturabo takes more interest in the Iron Warriors than Lorgar takes in his Word Bearers (though that isn't saying much I know). These things are interesting to me though.

I'm going to paint my Plasma Chosen as Iron Warriors. Now I know the IW will replace mutated limbs with bionics but what would they do if the mutation was say a Daemonic face on the shoulder pad

The IW replace non-useful mutations with bionics. If it makes them a better fighter, or improves their armour, or gives them another set of eyes, they'll keep it. They're practical like that.

The IW replace non-useful mutations with bionics. If it makes them a better fighter, or improves their armour, or gives them another set of eyes, they'll keep it. They're practical like that.

 

 

I don't remember there being such a qualifier as a difference between "useful" and "non-useful," only that they cut off mutations and replaced them with bionics.

I always liked to paint my models grey aswell so thats a bonus. So I am starting a IW warband by the end of this month. I have some Imperial Guard that I shall use as cannon fodder (as cultists). I wont have any mutations on my IW, chaos is just a tool to be used, not controled by, or Hazard Strips. Not fan of it. Any sugestions for starting a force? There are too many loyalists at my area. They need a culling. I also have a Imperial Bunker to be build.

Just to quickly say it also worth checking out Armour 13: Lost & the Damned incase you want to use the Guard as Renegade & expand on that army in the near future.

 

Right now my own models double as Cultist or Renegade/Guards just depend the game really.

 

I always advice it best going with the models you like.  What are you wanting out of the army, what your favrout part in the hobby & gaming?

Before I really got back to 40k and fell in love with my nurgle boys again, I started to build a pretty small

IW army, but I never finished it. Anyways, I build a few obliterators... and my own war(p)smith..

If your useing it in games vs friends, just let them know/ask in advance.  I know my friends would happily let me use the model & rule for my own Iron Warriors, it was the same when the Knight model was release last year before the change in 7th ed rules.  End of the day they know me as a oppent & know I'm adding a model to my army because I think it cool & I'm a fan of Dreadnought.  That all that matter to me.

I was too, but I get why it's not. It could easily be an IW themed counts-as Decimator, if you're looking for a way to use it without taking Come the Apocalypse allies.

I was going to wait until Forge World had release the model & convert them a bit.  Same with Siege Tyrant, though seen a lot of really great conversion shown up over the past while :D

Has anyone pick up the Horus Heresy box game & are you painting any or all of your models in the IV Legion colours?  I'm going to paint up the Horus side as Iron Warriors, but the other side as Ultramarines.  This will allow friends to borrow the models if they want to try out the game but don't have it.  Or if friends do have there own copy, allow us to switch side/re-play mission.

 

I'm looking forward trying out my first game of BaC on next Thursday.  Hopeful get them built up between tomorrow & Friday & get them all sprayed with the basecaot spray.
