WarriorFish
Thanks IP, yes that's my thoughts on the skin tone - I've used Rakarth Flesh with a couple of different washes for skin tones before so I'm thinking of leaning towards a more "natural" tone for them. I'm thinking that making them look more human from a distance/first glance in colour might make them look more sinister for it, but I do have the purple wash so I may try that too The Tartaros TDA from BoP is reserved for the Sunder, I'm mostly pondering their builds at the moment as I won't be able to fully magnetise them easily. Perhaps I'll just try and focus on the gun hands for that? I've also checked FW and the Legion set for Tartaros might be a good addition to make to them. All in good time though, I really need to get some Marines done so I can hit the table but I'm gathering plans and bits - Elmo has sent me some bits I'd need to mod a Terminator Apothecary for my Icons Chaoswolf 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298128-warriorfishs-sunder-csm/page/10/#findComment-4601353 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Should get the four Marines done soon Sadly it seems the magnetisation isn't going to work out quite so well with the HB, the arm brace is a bit too snug so it shaved off some paint on the arm despite my attempts to protect it Since I probably won't use HBs I suppose it isn't a problem to discard it but it's disappointing. Maybe once I've got a good number of troopers up I'll make some dedicated HB models. WarriorFish
Quick bit of work to finish this morning: The new models a bit closer: I'll need to repaint the pipe on the left Marine a darker bronze (you can't see it very well here), but they turned out well I may need to revisit magnetising plans for the heavies a bit as the fit is too close for the HB especially. I'll try and get the Champ done this week, shouldn't be too hard when focusing on a single model Arkaniss and Tallarn Commander 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298128-warriorfishs-sunder-csm/page/10/#findComment-4603296 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
I've also started work on a Sons model: Though given how much he'll be unassembled for painting (torso isn't glued to legs) perhaps call him built would be an overstatement :P I'll probably have him as a project to keep things different so he'll be secondary to my Slaaneshi concerns, though I do hope to have him done for my Inspiration Friday submission :) Arkaniss 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298128-warriorfishs-sunder-csm/page/10/#findComment-4603653 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
First Daemonette is done, still not quite settled on the colour scheme yet. Painting all four gemstones (there's on on the hand) was a bit of a pain but works well. Without instructions I'm not entirely sure which arms are supposed to go where, but given I have a lot of Daemonettes I figured that random mixing and matching will help keep them varied :) Evil Eye, Tamika, RolandTHTG and 2 others 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298128-warriorfishs-sunder-csm/page/10/#findComment-4605057 Share on other sites
Evil Eye
That looks good! I wasn't sure on how "normal" skin would look on them but it actually works really well! If I may say though, you may want to give her, ahem, nipples a dot of darker paint, or even a very careful application of shade- as it is with them being the same colour as her skin they kinda look...Barbie-ish? I'd also be tempted to add some sort of mottling or other non-human markings to select areas of skin, but that's a very subjective personal taste thing. WarriorFish
Thanks Squigs, I wanted to try and give both the daemonic/Slaanesh appearance as well as a more "human" one as a sort of juxtaposition but the only thing I could think of was a flesh tone for the skin so I'm glad it works. Now you've mentioned Barbie I can't unsee it so I guess I'll need to sort that Perhaps I have a wash that's suitable as painting the gem stones almost killed me they are so small. Plan currently is to get another few Daemonettes done and have a comparison shot with the CSM, but the orange is growing on me now I've seen it about. Maybe it needs trying without the black wash, or perhaps a different contrasting one? Evil Eye
A little bit of undiluted Carroburg Crimson should do the trick I think- try and "tint" the existing paint on the nipples rather than try and paint over them. CC has quite a fleshy, organic tint to it which would work very well for, well, nipples. Though if you wanted to do something more unnatural then perhaps Druchii Violet would work better? Alternatively you could go for maximum-gross-out/METAL and use some clear red (be it Blood for the Blood God, Tamiya Clear Red, FW Angron Red or whatever) and have them dribbling blood. Absolutely horrific, appropriate for the lore (at least, for old-school lore when Slaanesh was absolutely terrifying rather than "Purple Khorne-lite") AND easy to paint! Only problem is it might raise a few eyebrows... WarriorFish
I've got the old Baal Red wash I think it is, I'll give that a try? I may look into varying colours up later, but probably only with methods using washes as I'm trying to keep the scheme simple. Knight of the Raven
Daemonettes of Slaanesh yay! Oh, how I wish I had ordered twenty more of them... or fifty more. I agree that you should do something to make the nipples stand out. Yes, daemons aren't supposed to be realistic, even the daemonettes who're interested in tempting mortals, but Slaanesh loves herself some color contrast as proved by the noise marines. Lovely Thousand Son too. WarriorFish
I have dubbed them "Squipples" in honour of Squigs who first mentioned them: Jokes aside it is surprising what a difference the Baal Red makes, so it was good advice! Also no more Barbie comments Special bonus in that I got a shot that shows off the gemstones better The Champ is coming along nicely, I think I need to focus on him for the moment before I get distracted with anything else (like the Sorcerer...). Plan is still to get him done this week :) Carrack, Arkaniss and Teetengee 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298128-warriorfishs-sunder-csm/page/10/#findComment-4606380 Share on other sites

Knight of the Raven
Ah yes, she (?) does look better now. I just hope these metal models will be easier to assemble than metal howling banshees. I never ever managed to glue their arms. They kept falling down. Out of curiosity, what color did you paint her eyes? I can't tell from the pictures. ThatOneMarshal
Always nice to see the commissars corrupted by the dark gods :D. Am loving the daemoneetes as well as the paint job. WarriorFish
The Daemonettes only have one piece to glue in the arms, so they're pretty simple to put together I reckon easier than Banshees. I always recommend gel super glue because it makes life so much easier and can act as a bit of a filler on some of the worse models. Don't forget to give the models a clean once you've removed all the lines and vents ready for gluing, as the grease from your skin will interfere with the glue I don't paint eyes as they're far too detailed for my eyesight, I let the model definition and wash do it for me Nobody bothers to look that closely at a model anyway I find... Thanks for all the comments, they're helping me do a better job and making the Sunder my best army yet Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298128-warriorfishs-sunder-csm/page/10/#findComment-4606502 Share on other sites

Arkaniss
They're looking great! I'm keen to see more Daemonettes so we can see how a squad looks together and in comparison to the Sunder Marines. Another vote for gel super glue here - really is magical stuff. My Banshees are fine and to further illustrate how good the gel is my Penitent Engines have also never had their arms fall off either ;) WarriorFish 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298128-warriorfishs-sunder-csm/page/10/#findComment-4611371 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
I'm scheming to get them ready for a KT game or two on Sunday, but with work starting up again time is a bit pressed so I've not made any more progress yet along with starting up the Cleansing of Ioria Campaign. Doesn't help that I'm quite tired at the moment but I'll see what I can do! In case anyone doesn't read the Amicus resolution topic I have made the following Chaos goals for 2017: Get my Chaos on the table (this is the carried over failed one from last year) Complete my Thousand Sons (total: 11 models, expected final total: 16 models) Play a 1750pts game with my Chaos! Complete at least 50% of my Daemonettes (total: 52 models, 1 already painted) For fun/bonus goals: Run a Daemons only list Beat a GK army with a psyker heavy Chaos list Along with the goals for my other armies there's a fair bit to be doing so I'm not expecting to get them all done, but I'm not giving myself an impossible task either Arkaniss 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298128-warriorfishs-sunder-csm/page/10/#findComment-4611398 Share on other sites

WarriorFish
Thanks Squigs, I'm really pleased with how he's turned out - especially finishing him late into the night! It was necessary though as I took the Sunder to their first battle today - 8 days later but I can cross that entry off my list now Brother-Sergeant Iphastus could feel his brothers' desire. He felt it too. Tensely, waiting. Fingers ready to squeeze triggers at an instant, fists gripping chainswords tightly - waiting for the chance to spill blood. Most of all gene-enhanced muscles coiled for the moment to release and begin the attack. He felt a grin curl on his lips, teeth clenched into a wicked smile and through them he breathed a single word: "Eldar" Kill Team @ 200pts "That mission where you need to kill specialists" The Sunder vs Eldar Squad Iphastus Hidden Content 10x CSM w/MoS, VotLW, CCWs- Marine (2+ Poisoned weapons) - melta (Stealth specialist) - autocannon (BS5 specialist) Perfidious Xenos Squads Hidden Content 10x Guardians- Scatter laser (Split Fire) 6x Howling Banshees - (Re-rolls to wound) - (2+ Poisoned weapons) Exarch - throwy weapon thing I got a useless Warlord trait in getting to sieze on a 4+ (the free Specialist skill is my favourite), not ideal as I wanted to go first to get my earlier shots on. I won the dice off and deployed in the ruins, ready to advance: The Eldar deployed in response, aiming to advance up the field to get into range. To make matters better, I lost the initiative too... Turn 1 The Guardians advanced forwards, taking cover where they could with the Banshees following. The platform split fire between the autocannon and nearest Marine but their armour held true. In response a few Marines move up and bolter shells fly, but unfortunately unable to do much due to cover saves (especially the tank traps). The autocannon spies a Banshee without a cover save and BS5 shots make their mark. Not a bad start, but we're badly outnumbered and I know how much numbers can do in KT! Turn 2 More platform fire goes after the autocannon and Champ, but FnP saves the day! Otherwise closing into 12" isn't good and I lose a couple of Marines, but I can counter with some rapid fire now. Which is what I do, moving up with a couple of Marines to try and hold them off from my specialists and leader and the others following as a second wave. Shells fly and cover saves begin to fail. The two advancing Marines charge in and finish off their targets, consolidating behind the tank traps. Turn 3 At this stage things are looking better, but the scatter laser is a pain and the Banshees are about to strike... Rending guns take out the autocannon and another Marine, and charging Banshees are met with furious chainsword and cut down with no return! FnP saves the day! With that assault phase things suddenly turned in my favour, Marines advanced on the enemy with bolter and chainsword. Now I'm closer so cover can be negated the Guardians have little chance and the Banshees fall under rapid fire wounds. Turn 4 The game hinges on the specialists, if my opponent can kill my remaining Poisoned weapons Marine and leader (both kept close to each other) that would clinch it. Rending goes through Iphastus's power armour only for FnP to save the day once more! Barring some awful luck the game is over, and once the Marines move up with bolters in hand it soon is. Victory to the Sunder - did you expect any less? It was very exciting to get my first game in - I was concerned I wouldn't "get" how to play them yet but thanks to an unusual game with my loyalists prior perhaps I was more in the right frame of mind for how the Sunder need to perform. Hail of fire to soften the enemy followed by close assault. It could have easily gone the other way though, I realised afterwards it came down to three successful FnP rolls helping keep the numbers I needed in the fight. Otherwise I'd have struggled to get enough wounds and my opponent would have had good odds at doing the same to me! I enjoyed being able to shoot and fight effectively so the CCW upgrade was nice. I5 the icing on the cake of course I am a bit rusty on the pointy ears, they can certainly pack a wallop with all their fancy rules and whatnot. I'm sure this will be the first of many close battles... Iphastus breathed in deeply. The copper of blood, the familiar scent of expended bolter rounds. Most of all victory - familiar too of course. Another smile crept to his face as he surveyed the scene. Brother Jor was collecting soul stones, Naiu was staggering to his feet autocannon still in hand with delightful look on his face. Pleasure in pain. Pleasure in victory. "My Lord Praefactor," he raised vox, giving a moment's pause though he knew no response would come. "No survivors. Sixteen stones, six of aspect. Four wounded. The advance is open and yours," he continued. Another pause, though no reply expected once again. "Acceptable," came a reply from nowhere, graceful and soft, but all powerful and confident. Yjun was pleased. Iphastus knew no reply of his own was needed.
