Thanks brothers :) I like the melta Marine too, I might try and give him a different melta to see if I can align it better. I've got another idea for a magnetised pose that will be more friendly to boo-boos :P I've stopped work for today but it has been excellent progress:

I'm trying out a daylight bulb I borrowed and so far seems good. Sadly I'm still waiting on new brushes I ordered so I've had to stop here, but a couple with the pink and white base coating complete is good.

Ok, now I'm getting more visibly close to a full squad I'm trying to convince myself not to immediately jump into something like the Termies... For more practical musings here's my Kill Team plan for when I do get these models done:

10x CSM

- Mark of Slaanesh

- CCWs

- melta

- autocannon

Champ

- BP/CCW

198pts if I remember right. Obviously I plan to use the models I have, so I am somewhat restricted there as I seek to hit the table ASAP and I'd very much like to ensure I keep my theme especially as I feel that's what KT is all about. That does make them a bit pricey but model to model they should be superior to whatever my opponents put in the table (and the Sunder would have it no other way! :tongue.: ).

I am open to tweaks of course, the autocannon Marine has his heavy bolter and he also holds a melta neatly too for example and the Champ when done will be magnetised so much Slaanesh would blush. The idea would be to close on the enemy and defeat them with superior combat ability (see Sunder comment above), so I'm thinking that perhaps this build might be a good start for that? The autocannon can help de-mech the enemy with melta and krak finishing the job? The Champ can be improved with some specialist skills, I'm conscious of the fact making him more expensive only paints a bigger target on his head!

All advice and suggestions welcome as always :smile.:

  • 2 weeks later...

Looks like the Sons bits coming out are as good as I had hoped. Terminators in particular are really cool, so that's some more purchases I need to make. On top of that I've just ordered 10 more Daemonettes and 10 of the riders. Expensive times...

I've been making good progress on the next four CSM:

Just the gold left for metallics and after a bit of touching up they'll get their wash and the marines will be nearly done. I've not done much on their weapons or backpacks though so I'll have to play catch up on them.

Looking good! If I may suggest one thing, I reckon on some of the CSMs you could decorate small patches of their armour with Slaanesi-looking runes/"tribal tattoo" style markings, to give them a bit more of a Chaotic look whilst still keeping the "freshly turned" look.

That's on my list, for example the white parts will make for good spots but I want to get the squad done first so I can do a "review" of what I can add or change :smile.: Using some transfers would be nice and quick but I want to try my hand at some fancier freehand bits as I have been slowly working on it

The commissariat moves in mysterious ways :laugh.: I've not been hiding it, links to all my projects have been in my sig for some time now :tongue.: Mostly waiting for a new codex for my Guard now, and my Marines are "top up" projects to add more spice to my lists. Painting wise CSM are my focus currently :smile.:

Well, been a while since I have visited anywhere that isn't the SW section lately. Taking a break and all. I guess the only thing bothering me is that the same person doing the re-education of Imperial citizens is getting some eight-pointed action... Actually, this sounds right on point the way it usually is :D

Anyway, keep up the painting, brother ;)

I wear many hats, it's just that the commissar's hat is the most awesome :tongue.: I'm wondering if I can get these four Marines done this week, which would free me up to focus on getting the Champ right. I've had a few ideas on what I could do, with quite different approaches but we'll see what takes my fancy when I start cobbling bits together :smile.:

I was playing with lists and out of curiosity I conjured this up:

I know it's far too soon to be considering 1750pts and it needs tweaks but I do/will have all of these models except for the Daemon Prince (albeit scattered across many different sprues and GW's factory :tongue.: ). I figured it might be something to aim for build wise but it was good to see what can be done. Some Rhinos will need to appear and the Daemon Prine will be ripe for customisation too but all in good time.

Of course I'll need to revise my "what could I do" list once we get the Rubric update... I have some days off next week so I'll see how much pink I can paint :biggrin.:

I decided to play with model ideas next which was a good idea, think I have my first Champ:

gallery_30308_10249_21257.jpg

Need to find him a right handed bolt pistol but otherwise I think the bits work together :) Not sure about magnetising him, as chances are for the most part I'll always want a power sword so he can duel in a challenge?

Well someone looks like they mean business!

That champion is excellent :tu:

As for the army list, one thing that is change is the units of 10 Daemonettes. I think they're too small, really. From what Bonzi's thread said, squads of 20 survive better. And putting heralds of Slaaneshi in them boosts their damage output nicely.

Thanks Kier, I guess I finally got that inspiration I was waiting for as I assembled him first go :P I think he looks cool so I might keep the approximate theme for the other Champs, plus those Sanguinary Guard bits need using up somehow

I'm way out of date on my Daemon stuff, but don't they have to Deep Strike in or is that gone now? I will have 22 Daemonettes when the Made to Order comes through, perhaps I should make that 32 before they go. That would mean a couple of squads of 16 which I think should a good number? Heralds are also new to me, I should find out what they do :P

That's cool, sounds like a plan :) In my defence I know I'm a while away from fielding any Daemons so I don't have the codex yet  Is the Daemon Prince any good? I mostly want the modelling opportunities and helping match them to my CSM but no harm in making him useful too :P

I went to the GW online store and somehow by accident bought two more Daemonette squads and the Herald (which I hope to convert to match the metals). This is all your fault Kier. Oh well, in for a penny in for a pound - it's the Slaanesh way :tongue.:

Got to finish the Champ this morning quick:

gallery_30308_10249_48332.jpg

Magnetised for a plasma pistol and chainsword too, though I doubt I'll use the configuration. Running as a Slaanesh squad kind of forces your hand on upgrades but options are never a bad thing to have in case you have some points to squeeze/spend :)

You can thank me once you've made them and painted them to the Dark Prince's pleasing. :D

I'm not sure how good Slaaneshi daemon princes are. It might be worth asking over in the Daemons forum. I often hear about winged Nurgle DPs.

Giving him...er...it...the burning brand might be useful...?

The champion looks great. :tu: Is there any chance you can magnetise a Doom Siren backpack (kitbashed or GW model) for him?

The main core is Slaanesh themed, so that's probably how the DP will run. I'm not worried about him being super awesome, just needs to be good enough to cause mischief - I'll probably pop in for help when I'm closer to needing the model :smile.: In theory the army is mostly built to close in on the enemy in various ways and ideally land appropriately to ruin their day. The option to Deep Strike some Daemons in could help mix this up :biggrin.:

This Champ is for normal CSM squads so he doesn't need a Doom Siren. I am still unsure about how I'm going to do the NM - or if they'll even be that different maybe - but how I'd do a Doom Siren isn't something I've considered yet. I will need to raid my bits box when I get round to it to see what I can do

I had an idea for a heavy weapon Marine:

gallery_30308_10249_28807.jpg

As I'm going to have four with HBs/autocannons (at least) I figured some variety of pose needed to be added. Still a bit experimental (when the blu-tac is holding...), I'm thinking of levelling the gun - it can't be too low as the autocannon is quite long. Thoughts?
