The NEW "What will 2014 Bring?" thread

Unfortunately the storm raven now specifies in the codex that transported dreads are hit at the rear AV in case of a crash. Still no AP though, so worst case is a hull point and immobilized.

EDIT: They are also one of the few units that has to pay for a search light, and they lost smoke launchers.

A little disappointing that none of the weapon upgrades decreased in cost, but at only a melta bomb the extra armor is worth taking.

This is the problem with the BA units which look nice on paper....

Anyone who lets them get across the table into combat with them is not good at the game.

Isn't rather the point of most of the speculative lists we've seen over the last few days that the BA units doesn't have to cross the table? They'll be on top of the opponent right away? What am I missing?

pre ordered my shiled of baal exterminatus. and some paint not going to get the terminators. just opened up my death storm box and just before i started sticking my terminators togrther i was looking through my bits box and found my 5 pairs of lightning claws "result" saved me money and i have a unit i may actually use now. so even the tactical terminators ahve turned it a good unit for me

Well if you Deep Strike you cannot assault that turn. So you have put yourself as prime target for the entire gunline of your opposition.

Death stars that cannot tank HORRENDOUS amounts of firepower dont work in this edition. And unfortunately BA do not have access to that sort of survivability.

On a more positive note, any rumours yet on Exterminatus BA Faction formations and dataslates?

Well, this is from the GW store:

The 64-page rulebook includes:
- 8 new missions based on the events of the narrative book.
- 18 new datasheets for the Blood Angels 1st and 2nd Companies, Flesh Tearers, and the Necrons of the Mephrit Dynasty. That’s the equivalent of four Codex Supplements in one book!
- new warlord traits, relics and force organisation charts for all four armies

Apparently Dante takes command in this book.

ok, want that book now too.

The trick with a jump deathstar is generally to try and get something else in place as a distraction first.  I'm thinking Drop Pods with Furioso, sternguard perhaps, even melta ASM squads would be enough pressure to make the enemy focus on them for a turn.  And since my new default Troops choices to fill the force Org went from ASM x20 to Tacs x20 in pods, I will definitely be bringing drop pods to pressure my opponent.

Or if survivability is a concern, just shoehorn a psyker in (a second detachment should do it easily) that can cast Invisibility on the unit.  All you really need is a turn against most lists (2 against a really fast army perhaps), and then you're in combat and good to go.

Hard to count on getting Invisibility as a power, though.  I play psyker heavy armies and when I get it awesome but if not, that death start is in for some pain.

Therein lies the problem...

For the points you pay for that deathstar, plus the two troop tax you arent left with a lot of threats. The points efficiency of this book hinders it still but in a different way than it did previously.

I dont think 5 Scouts in a Raven with Dante re-rolls to reserves is a terrible idea tbh.

lol they put the softcover up by accident.

Wings targets an infantry unit, Terminators are an infantry unit and their dedicated transport is a land raider (shrugs) yep you could send it down board.

It is also a blessing and you cannot cast a blessing on a unit embarked inside a vehicle

Mobility = survivability

With 1D6 scatter and wings if necessary it should be possible to DS in a spot where you can charge next turn and where LOS and range restrict enemy fire and counter-charges.

The problem with PA hordes, although they could be a struggle for many, was their lack of mobility. I say was, because BA jump packs efficiently cover that problem now. Top that off with 2+ and / or FNP and you're all good. It just requires a more patient approach I suppose.

Except you can target your unit or the vehicle you are embarked on, so if your Librarian is inside the LR, you should be ok, right Sama?

Nope Libbys can't generate and expend warp charge when embarked except for witchfires

Expend? No. Generate? Yes.

Having looked t the sprue pics of the Terminators I'm spectacularly unimpressed with 2 very significant aspects of them:

1. Legs already have the torso back molded on.

2. Front part of 4 torsos has a helmet molded in.

That is exceptionally poor, it massively cuts down on the ability to alter poses and customise the Terminators with using other kits, even a simple head swap or position a head to be looking left is going to become a major conversion undertaking!. One of the big problems with the regular Terminator kit is the difficulty of making them look even vaguely dynamic, simply twisting a torso and positioning a head to match can be incredibly effective at completely transforming the sense of motion in a mode and this robs us of that opportunity unless your willing to devote a lot of extra time and effort to carving the kit up in ways that should have been completely unnecessary if they'd just made it properly.l I was prepared to buy this kit, but I might just wait for the bits to hit my favourite sites and cherry pick the ones I want.

On a more personal note I also dislike the proliferation of chalices that are difficult to remove.
