Don't think I've seen purple as a good spot color from the VIII legion before.

 

Question, have you ever thought of trying a couple different terror marks instead of just a solid color to break up the white faceplates?

 

I could totally see some little painted horns or fangs looking pretty cool.

I've thought about it, but so far I'm favouring speed over detail; the plasma squad only took about an hour and a half to do. I'll probably go back at some point and see what I can do on mk IV helmets

Finally made more progress on my army after a bunch commission work and running a tournament but I'm really excited about a Herald I'm converting from one of the Age of Sigmar Khorne Guys.

Looks great so far. Nice Idea. I would maybe build a Night Lord Icon in The Middle of the Circle with Chains to Hold.

I rather like how it looks empty and any brass etch would look way too 2 dimensional imo to look very good. That being said if it doesn't look quite right after being painted, then I'll modify it

I like the look of the heraldor! The flag has a bit of a chaos feel to it. I do like the idea a lot though might even do mine up, maybe do a flag made it flayed flesh or something.

 

The legs look a little chunky, though that's a problem I have with a lot of age of signal models. The head looks a tad bit small conspired to the rest of the body, though that may be due to the picture.

 

Ruleswise he's pretty cool, are you going to have him ride along with sevater? He provides a lot for a traitor force though his options are a bit limiting.

I'm not too worried about the banner as Night Lords did the chaos look before it became mainstream; its just going to look like a grotesque idol made out of victims bones mounted in bronze with some splashes of blood. 

 

I do agree the bottom half looks a bit bigger in the pics as well as the head looking small. The neck is really thick so its tricky to make it low like a traditional marine's and I've added a shoulder pad since then to fill in some of the negative space and beef the top out a bit. Still considering on giving him a back pack just to marine silhouette him even more.

 

List wise I was thinking of running him in a Horror Cult list with a blob in a spartan, backed up by large units of raptors. I want to make an Ophion model so I might take him as the compulsory. Or a siege breaker with some phosphex batteries

So some progress on the Herald. Personally I think the proportions are more settled now with the pad and pack, but it might be hard to tell from my poor photos as well as the mass of black that ii is so far

Another update!

 

I'm reallllllly enjoying this model; unlike the sigmarines these guys just ooze character and painting him up so far has been a blast. I've treated myself to some blending and a little bit of weathering on the armour as a result; the Herald really has to stand out from the rank and file in every way.

Yea it's the aos starter kit banner guy with a chaos knight shoulder, night lord head and calth backpack. There's also some accessories like Kroot meat and knives and calth holsters and pouches

Herald is 90% done, only needs the base now. I really din't do that much lightning on him compared to my normal models, but theres enough contrast on the blue to not need it imo.

Thanks man :) I don't think ill be putting anything in the center as it'll look a bit too jury rigged and I want it to looked like a crafted symbol of the Dark King himself

For any of my night lords blues I use P3's exile blue as the base coat and then mix it with Mordian blue (guilliman blue now). For this guy I blended exile to mordian and then added bleached bone to the mix for the bright portions. The dark was exile into mordian with a black wash on some of the exile to darken it even further

So I've been thinking about repainting the blue on sevetar to match the blue on the Herald and curze. Thoughts guys?

So its been a while as I've been really busy, but I've recently acquired some quad launchers and just built them. I was able to curb my enthusiasm enough to remember not to glue the weapons in, leaving me the possibility of easy swaps out for any future weapons.

I also started repainting Sevetar to better match the Herald, so far I've just painted the different shades and it still all needs to be blended together.

The pictures are a bit wonky as I'm using a new camera that really underlines how bad my lighting is, tho I did try to salvage them with some editing.
