It only takes one guy to start it off. When I field FW models it's only a matter of weeks before others start bringing their own.

 

A Heresy army has the same effect.

Sadly the ottawa area is extremely fragmented in terms of a community. 6th and formations started the split in what people enjoy playing and it's just gotten worse. It also hurt when the gw turned into a one man store.

 

Because of this split it's tricky to know of how many people play 30k in ottawa. There's currently 4 people I know with actual FW armies (including myself), there's a couple more guys who counts as their stuff as 30k, but some of them don't like the idea of 30k vs 40k so thats a problem too. To limit things even more, the majority only want to play with fully painted, so there's myself and 2 other people. Until some more of the people looking at it start up or people get things painted there's not a lot of opponents

Yeaaaaa, it can be rough if there's some sort of mindset that the flgs has that you clash with.

 

There's one in ottawa where I really don't mesh well with; the mentality is that you should make your lists worse if you win too much, regardless of your opponents skill/and or list. I don't go there too often because of that, but it can be amusing to be looked down on for knowing the rules lol.

Ooft, just like ThatOneMarshal, I'm currently looking at IW, but these have really shaken up my decisions, I love all the gribbly trophies and perfect use of bits (warp talons are so 30k! I just never noticed before).

I'd really recommend looking at Augustus b'Raass' and Dan the Deamon's threads for some trophy-tastic Night Lords. Both of them have definitely been an inspiration to me.

I'll use this as the opportunity to repeat what I'd said in one of the posts that got deleted; that I wish I could have put more work into the armour and want to revisit it, but it was just taking altogether too long to paint so I just quickly wrapped it up. The pictures also make me wish I'd cleaned up his chest a bit better beforehand, but oh well :P

Lol nice job!

He's actually one of my favourite Primarchs. I'd love to build a list around him and multiple infiltrating Terror squads.

 

The paintwork is nice and clean. I actually like his armour as is, maybe a few little highlights (you said you weren't quite done with it)

 

Im terms of his face and gore however, he's come out great!

Yea I was blending all the plates and then was going to finish them with a crisp highlight, instead I just said  it and highlighted then washed and glazed it to make it nice and rich in, but ultimately with a very subtle highlight as a result. I'll probably just rehighlight it with the same colour to make it pop

 

I am very pleased with his face; I really wanted to recreate the unhealthily pale look with lank hair and the tones I got captured that perfectly. I wish it was easier to get a shot of his eyes as I got a really nice purple shadow going under his eyelids to make him look super gaunt, with black eyes for the whole "creepy as hell and grew up with no light" vibe.

 

As for lists, I've found it almost amusingly frustrating to make a terror assault list that works properly with characters because infiltrate doesn't carry over. This leads to having to buy a babysitter unit for the hq, the heavy slot being your AT and fast is usually given to raptors or bikes. Curze himself is best with assault marines or raptors, but doesn't really need their help at all; he more or less just tanks for them and then splits off to do his own thing

These are very inspired Night lords. From the modelling and great use of bits, the flayed skin and the use of bftbg, the use of purple as a spot and/or energy colour, to the very rich blue, it's a pleasure to look through this thread. But the top prize goes to your awesome, awesome lightning. It's perhaps the best lightning I've seen: the pattern and crisp, thin lines, with the jagged edges and particularly the pattern you draw - I'm trying to emulate them as soon as I get back to Night Lords again. I would apply it a tiny bit more sparingly, but that's a very minor critique compared to your beautiful army. :tu:

This means an incredible amount coming from you, especially since I got inspiration for trophies and the flayed skin from you in the first place.

 

As for the lightning, I know I use it a lot in contrast to most who prefer a lesser amount, however I do this because I don't highlight my blue (in the interest of saving time); the lightning is my way of drawing the eye in in the first place and distracting from some of the flatness of the blue. I also tend to use it more on "plain" models

Well, credit where credit is due, you pull it off impressively. I also really like the skin tone of your flesh trophies. Could you maybe write a recipe/tutorial for it?

Sure thing.

 

I use Tallarn Flesh as a basecoat (not sure what the modern version is) followed by a kislev flesh layer, then wash it with reikland flesh. I then do another layer of kislev flesh, but not totally smooth (more of a stereaked look) so it looks like its been stretched. This can followed by a highlight of elf flesh depending on how pale you want it to look. I then use the GW red glaze on the edges to make it look like its been freshly cut/torn off of someone.

So in a supremely ironic moment I've rebased all my painted power armoured Night Lords onto 32mms. I'll take pictures of them tomorrow so everything doesn't just get yellowed out.

Nice! 32mm is great for Marines if you ask me. Unsure about legionnaires though as 20 man squads could get cumbersome... Would love to see pics to see!

So here we are with 32mm based Terror Marines. The whole theme was a raid on a city, as such there's very little military detritus, but plenty of smashed things and pools of blood. I also took the time to redo all the mk III heads to have bronze brows as was suggested by Flint many pages ago
