Just read your entire series... Best Ultras I've seen! Takes the idea of censuria and blends it to the heresy eloquently. What is the captains chest piece??

I like the idea of the IH being a combiplas/ combivollite seeker squad bringing some rememberance of pain to their foes. Any other shattered legion components planned? I'd love to see a few Sallies and Fists in here as well:)

Cheers, brothers and sisters! Honoured by your praise, as always. Inspired me to crank out an objective marker, see below for a dying Suzerain who got on the wrong end of unholy weaponry.

The army so far is simply looking wonderful together! Full of character -- which is no mean feat for an Ultramarines army  Congratulations on a great achievement, now get back to work, so we can learn more about this most intriguing part of the XIII legion!

Thanks, Kraut! Tremendous praise, hope the next instalment (tanks) is also to your liking. :)

Cheers lionofjudah, that's awesome to hear. The Captain's chestplate is from the Ultramarines Praetorian upgrade set, nothing fancy. Reminded me of the chestpiece worn by a certain character played by Russell Crowe in a film also involving Legions...

No plans for other shattered legion components for this force as yet. I would like to return to my Raven Guard at some point and do a full force of them, however.

Wonderful to see the first fifty finished! It will be a sad but glorious day when the next fifty are complete and the tale of the Black One Hundred comes to a close!

Cheers dude! That day will be a long way away, I think ;)

Outstanding work dude, you made it farther with rank and file than I ever have haha.

Thanks bud. Still a long way to go.

And now for the second objective marker (the first being the Macragge Invictus banner displayed a few months ago); a dying Suzerain who's lost his legs to Word Bearer savagery, and now lies impaled by a cursed blade whose rusted appearance belied its ability to slice apart ceramite like silk. Got to experiment with some more blood effects here, worked OK I think. It's really weird painting 'proper' Ultramarines, where's the black?!

Even if he doesn't have the black, he's still muted and looking a great deal more realistic than any official Ultramarines-scheme.

The half company looked gorgeous, very impressive!

Everything about this continues to be unbeatably awesome.

I don't know if you've shared it already, but can you let me know the paints you used for the volkites?  Love the scheme you've got going for them.

That second marker is amazing! Love the idea with the rusty sword! What about having some rust spreading out from the actual blade and onto the fallen Astartes, in order to show the weapon's corrupting nature?

Anyway, brilliant stuff, as per ;)

The demi company (apologies, I jest) half company looks amazing, Arkhan.great work indeed. It's pretty amazing you did fifty of these wonderful dark Uktramarines. Yours are a prime example of how the XIII are indeed an awesome lot.

Objective marker is even fluffier than the last. Can't wait for the other four.

Word Bearer approved.

Don't worry, vengeance is coming for you and all your kin, brother. *chuckle* ;)

It really looks different without the black. Cheers tho Pheidias. :)

Pretty cool objective marker, brother. Certainly more of a story with this one than most. :happy.:

Getting there! Can do better, I think. Cheers Olis!

Thanks man. The scheme's pretty simple:

-base Scab Red

-highlight the coils with Evil Sunz Scarlet

-highlight the coils with Troll Slayer Orange (leave some of the coils at either end of the weapon slightly more thinly coated than the middle coils)

-final highlight Golden Yellow

-wash Devlan Mud

-repeat Golden Yellow

There's probably a simpler way to do it, but that's what it is for now :)

Oh my god... That's the sword from the ltd emperors champion isn't it?!?!? There is so much heresy in that casualty marker that it hurts...

Glad someone recognised it bud. ;) Thought it made for delicious irony, having the first incarnation of the Black Sword representing a cursed weapon...

I actually tried the rust spreading effect but it ended up looking like the blade was somehow glued on to the Marine, rather than impaling (and then corrupting) him. A better painter than me could do it justice, perhaps. Thanks man :)

Beautiful! Reminds me of how much I need to get 'round to doing some objective markers. Poker chips work well mechanically, but, thematically, they lack that certain... something.

Objective markers are great, but you can end up with the problem of having them not fit the battlefield you're fighting on. I'm theming these around Armatura (hence tons of dead Evocatii Suzerains, a banner to reclaim and emergency escape pods from the orbital battle to recover). Might end up doing some themed more generally for the HH later on, I guess.

Thanks Augustus. High praise from yourself, as ever. Hope this continues to impress.

Quick snapshot of what's left to paint: a Master of Signal, nearly done, a Rhino (only the interior at the minute), four more objectives and a Librarian (insert 'armless joke 'ere):

That's so horribly wrong. lol. I like how you did the oath paper on the blade.

Also when are we seeing the Invictarii? That murdered ultra makes me realize we were promised Invictarii.... We've come a knockin'

Invictarii when I'm back on home turf. Won't be for another couple months yet. But yes, glad you enjoy the heresy of the Black Sword corrupted into a traitor weapon

Quiet evening tonight, was going to paint a bit but am nursing what's probably a mild concussion from training earlier so I think just a quick update then that's it. I'm not generally given to sharing personal info on the net, but had a lot of stuff going on recently outside of the hobby which stalled my progress, mainly training which  got a good result recently (I'm furthest right).

More pertinently to the B&C, let me present the latest completion for the Black One Hundred, a Master of Signal.

Note to self: Picking fight with Brother-Captain Arkhan is a bad idea.  :D  Congrats, boss, always good to be on the podium at the end of a competition.

OT: the muddy shins/boots feel a trifle overdone, or maybe just too bright.  Still a terrific model.  Where'd you source the girder?

fantastic execution...the mold line on the pointing arm is a lil distracting. Great helmet...love the cabling on the pistol. Dust on the legs is a different color than the base and seems a little..off. Great leathers on the tabard and holster.

Both the fluff and the models are fantastic- especially that Breacher squad. I also love that you've managed to portray a grittier and darker XIIIth. It's not something you see very often.
