REF LOC - Map of the Galaxy

Something that just occurred to me is that our crusade lasted 40 years(give or take) longer than canon but there's no real indication of that on the map. Most of the systems are well within the canon Imperium's borders. Do we want to add some in that are further out to serve as evidence for the longer length of the Great Crusade?

Ha, Sig's mentioning of our GC's greater length gave me a funny thought. What if in our 41st Millenium the Tau were started on their path of conquest & technological supremacy after their early ancestors discovered a crashed Crusade-era Imperial Starship, partially-preserved amid the sands of T'au's deserts, oh the irony! Edited by SanguiniusReborn

The suzerainity should make a contract.that the whole segmentum.obscurus upt to mexicaatii and han should belong to the suzerainity amd the boarders should involve a demilitarized zone where warptravel is illegal and sanctioned. Would make the suzis stronger at about a quarter of the imperium.

But we would still need the Ethereala

S to unify them but I agree that it could be a start up for them. ^^

So Nomus' homeworld should be somewhere within Obscurus, correct?

Not sure what we could add besides the beacons.

Well I thought we could add a few systems to our map that are outside of where the GC reached in the canonverse. Just to show where the GC stopped in our 'verse and how much larger the Imperium is at the time of the Insurrection. We can also add in markers for where the beacons are located

On the extension of the Great Crusade: I'm not actually sure that the exansion of the Crusade really happened in a purely 2D Astrographical expansion - not only is there a third dimension in space, making even the fringes of the Galaxy a lot "deeper", and therefore actually pretty voluminous, even when compared to the size of the Imperium - but the 4th dimension of Warp routes, which may even be the biggest deciding factor: the safest warp routes aren't always from closest system to closest system, which is why even in the 41st Millenium Rogue Traders have a large part to play, they are needed to find new warp routes to new regions of the galaxy that haven't been explored before; Explorator Fleets also have something rather similar, they don't always look on planets that have already been conquered by the Imperium, but we know that that isn't just happening on the borders of the Imperium.

It's my suspicion that the Imperium in canon-verse is actually rather sparse, in part because it wasn't able to find warp routes into the isolated space within its 2D borders - In the BotL-verse, the Imperium would be much denser, the Rogue Traders having more time to discover new warp routes before the Imperium sends in the Legiones to take the newly re-discovered planets (planets that may not even be on the map in canon-verse, despite being within the 2d borders of the Imperium)

Resurrecting this thread. After mentioning the Unification Wars on the wiki, I figured it might be a good idea to compile info together so that we're not simply running over each other, canon-wise. Or with actual canon. Will go through this thread later, and see what's already here.

Copying straight off Lexicanum:

  • Albia/(Great Britain) - Albians refused to kneel before the Emperor and met his Thunder Warriors with their own proto-dreadnoughts and armored ironside soldiers. In battle after battle, the Albians managed to hold back the Emperor's forces but only at staggering cost for the defenders. Admitting the martial temper and indomitable spirit of his foe, the Emperor called a ceasefire and sought a diplomatic solution. The Emperor appeared before the Albian Clan Lords unarmed and clothed in white and crimson, speaking of his vision of a unified mankind. He offered them glory among the stars and redemption. To the shock of many, the warlords of Albia, seeing the Emperor as different from past tyrants, accepted terms and soon became one of the most zealous supporters of unification.
  • Albyon/(England)- the tyrannical warlord Uilleam the Red is defeated by the Emperor's forces and imprisoned in the dungeon of Khangba Marwu. Home to the III Legion/Crimson Lions (Yorkshyr).
  • Achaemenid Empire/(Iran) - Swearing allegiance to the Emperor early on in his war, the Achaemenid Empire suffered little during the Wars of Unification, avoiding both atomic strike and invasion by Thunder Warriors.
  • Boeotia/(Southern Greece) - Mentioned in Imperial records as holding out against full Unification for some considerable time; while tacitly recognizing the Emperor's dominance, the ruling monarchy of Boeotia used all manner of diplomacy in order to avoid losing power. In a show of great patience and benevolence, the Emperor allowed the ruling family of Boeotia - the Yeselti - to carry on like this for over 150 years, with the intention that they would integrate themselves into unified Imperial Terra at their own speed and with as much dignity as possible. Instead, the Yeselti clung onto their independence to the point where, firstly, the Imperial Army was forced to invade the province and finally, Legiones Astartes of the Thousand Sons were assigned to quash the trucculent little state. Boeotia was notable both for the presence of industry and at least one buried shrine to gods worshiped by humans in an earlier age.
  • Caucasus Wastes/(Caucasus Peninsula) - Its ruler, the ethnarch, was defeated by the Emperor's forces and imprisoned in the dungeon of Khangba Marwu.
  • Franc/(France) - Absorbed by the forces of the Emperor.
  • Hy Brasil/(Brazil) - Its last independent ruler, Dalmoth Kyn, was one of the last Terran warlords to be defeated by the Emperor. After their defeat Hy Brasil existed as semi-autonomous province within the Imperium, and was governed by Kyn's descendants. However the actions of Malcador the Sigillite ensured that Dalmoth's descendants, including Pherom Sichar, never sat on the Council of Terra when it was created.
  • Merica/(US) - This major kingdom was known for its high fashion and ballrooms, fell to the Emperor's forces. Nord was home to the VI Legion/Iron Bears.
  • Panpacific Empire/(Pacific Ocean) - The powerful Panpacific under its tyrant Narthan Dume was defeated by the forces of the Emperor. In a rare move, the Emperor had Dume executed instead of imprisoned.
  • Ursh/(West Russia/Central Asia) - Ruled over by the tyrant Kalagann, Ursh employed powerful psykers in its armies and used their might to unleash dark powers on its enemies. This did not, however, avail him when he faced the forces of the Emperor, who defeated and killed Kalagann.
  • Ethnarchy/(See Caucasus Wastes) - The Ethnarchy is known to have commanded formidable forces consisting of genetically modified warriors known as the Ur-Khasis, dangerous weapons from the Dark Age of Technology, and enslaved Psykers. The first attempt by Imperial forces to capture the Ethnarchy's strongholds earlier in the war had cost the lives of 20,000 Thunder Warriors and a million other casualties. Towards the end of the Unification Wars, the Emperor began his second attempt to topple the Ethnarchy. This time the XVIII Legion of the Legiones Astartes was tasked with destroying the subterranean power generators feeding the Ethnarchy's power fields. In the ensuing Assault on the Tempest Galleries, the XVIIIth Legion was victorious and with their force fields down, the Ethnarchy was quickly crushed by the forces of the Emperor.
  • Yndonesic Bloc/(Indonesia Islands) - The brutal Ethnarch of the bloc, Cardinal Tang, was defeated by the forces of the Emperor and imprisoned.
  • Saragorn Enclave/(English Channel) - the Enclave surrendered to the forces of the Emperor but still carried on the experiments in secret. When the Emperor discovered this defiance, he dispatched the [???] Legion to bring his retribution. The Enclave was viciously destroyed. [Was the Night Lords.]

The final battle of the war was the Massacre at Gaduare in Franc, where 5,000 Thunder Warriors slaughtered 50,000 rebel militia. The last act of the Unification era saw the Emperor purge the Thunder Warriors at Mount Ararat, making way for his next generation of superhuman warriors, the Space Marines.[?]

BotL-specific locations

  • Jermani: theocratic, techno-barbarian confederacy. Home of the Blitzers and the Fifth Legion/Halcyon Wardens
  • Nord Merikan Wastes (Canada): Wasteland. Home to the VIII Legion/Godslayers.
  • Sudafrik: Home to the VII Legion/Berserkers of Uran.

Also unique to BotL

The Kingdom of Jurfik: Home to the Third legion.

Hy Brazil jungle tribes: First recruits of the Fifteenth legion.

Perutic mountain clans: The first campaign fought by the Fifteenth legion.

Kentral Amerikan tribes: The first recruits of the Thirteenth legion

Bits of Unification Wars fluff that has been written:

Ursh: Ursh was conquered by a combined force of the XIII&III legions in conjunction with Prussan Grenadiers and Thunder Warriors. At this battle the III claimed Kalaggan's head as trophy and the XIII earned the right to wear the Imperial Aquila as their symbol.

Pan-Pacific empire: The first conquest of the IV legion

Franc, Basquia and Hispain: Main Recruiting Ground for the XIIth.

Exclusive to Botl:

Pacification of Antarctic Kingdoms through the XIIth et al.

Gyptous: Denuclearization of Warchiefs via the XIIth

Is it right to fill in events? Just added 2 for example

I'm okay with the proto-legions establishing themselves with two caveats. One, don't conflict with canon. Two, try to keep it to the latter Unification battles. The Legiones Astartes is only supposed to be involved in the tail end. No need to steal any more thunder from the Thunder Warriors.

For example, the Fifth Legion doesn't come into being until after Jermani submits to the Emperor, and I've only detailed two major campaigns for them.

Orioc - Antarctic mountain kingdom. Fanatically religious, cleansed by the Iconoclasts (future Word Bearers) in canon, Lightning Bearers in ours.

Shakletian Wastes - the borderlands between the Pan-Pacific Empire and Orioc, inhabited by nomad tribes. Brought to battle by the nascent III Legion, they then allied with the Imperium and became the nucleus of the XIV.

Here are a bit more canon areas and conflicts listed like

Nordyc (Scandinavia) or the

Nordafric Conclaves (Nord Africa)

If you are ok with it, I'd like to use Vhnori as a late Unification Wars battle for the XXth. It was conquered by the VIII in canon.

BotL exclusive regions

Neezela (New Zeeland) - a sub region of the Pan-Pacific Empire, Neezela was the first conquer of the XXth and was accepted as the third region to draw recruits from

Kingdom of Kongo (central Africa)

Recruiting grounds for the XXth:

- Kingdom of Kongo

- Nordyc

- Neezela

All have a rather small population left after the Unification Wars. Furthermore, the drawing from different warrior cultures resulted in a torn Legion as none of them saw themselves as brothers. Their battle results were lacking the discipline of others and thus voices arose calling out for disbandinf the last legion for being a failed one.

Athrawes claimed the Orioic and therefore the actual South Pole, but we could certainly have them do some fighting in the general area of Antarctica. I believe the Pan-Pacific Empire's fall and the war with Albyon generally marks the point where the where Astartes first emerged.

Did we get Mariana down already? If not, city-state built into a crevasse in the old Atlantic seabed. Recruiting ground for the XIX.

Well the proto-xII was one of the legions testing proto power armor to ne used as shock troops with cc elements. Strength enhancement (big swords like guaire amalasan wields one ) so they were often sent ahead as a message of what the emperor is capable of. A warning you could say.

So they gained their name: Apostles of War

On the antarctic mountains: the kingdoms are a big place

As they are drawn from the region around France, Spain and Basquia they will not be established until those were conquered by the emperors forces.

If Gyptous and Antarctica happen before i have to rethink the process.

In the cannon verse Terminator armor wasn't developed until the middle of the Great Crusade, to help with fighting in and around the galactic core. Seeing as (aside from the geneseed and character of the BotL Legions) our Unification wars would have been relatively identical to cannon, it would be really wrong for there to be terminator armor already being tested on terra more than a century earlier.

Additionally, the Idea of proto-Terminator armor was imparted to the Imperium by the Jovian fleets, who had developed something broadly similar to be used a safety suits for working in and around Starship reactor cores. A hundred years later (give or take) that STC would be modified for combat usage for the Legions.

Even with all of the changes to our universe, and even if we want to say that Terminator armor came about much earlier in our universe, there isn't much plausibility that there would have been proto-Terminator armor on Terra during the unification wars. At that point in time, there would only  recently have been proto-power armor after all, and military adaptation/innovation takes time.

Yeah, having Terminator armor before Mk III is… just wrong.

To add to Terra:

â‹…Pansylvania/Panslavija (not sure which name I ended up using): southwest of Ursh, primary muster grounds of the IX Legion centered around the White Fortress. Recruitment latter extended to Jermani and Ursh.

â‹…Valerian Hive, Oxitania: home to rebellious flesh-wrights. Sacked by the IX Legion, gene-wrights deported to Imperial laboratories, rulership impaled by the Steel Guard as example.

â‹…North Indyc enclave of Thumli-Cambay: muster grounds of the IV Legion, preserved as is until the Qarith Triumph.

Wider Solar System:

â‹…Callisto: human neuro-thralls massacred by the IX Legion

â‹…Jovian Void-Clans: tertiary recruitment rights for the IV Legion

â‹…Saturnyne Ordo: tertiary recruitment rights for the IV Legion
