Brilliant, just brilliant. Probably the most distinctive posing I've ever seen in a Space Marine model, never would have thought of it myself. Great use of the Ashen Circle body.

In regards the choice of cult, I would put forward the Corvidae. In my view, Osiris's model has the look of an occultist or a philosopher even more so than a 'ordinary' character of the Thousand Sons, and one of the key tenets of that particular cult was to lead and guide the Legion along its various philosophical paths, which also makes sense for the leader of the disparate members of a disbanded fellowship to be.

Honestly, I think Osiris on its own is a fine name. I just spent about ten minutes going through various Arabic origin names on Wikipedia and it just doesn't particularly pair well with anything.

That's because the -oh sound in English isn't present in MSA. It's -ah or -ooh. Thousand Sons work better with Egyptian or Ptolemaic names. Arabic names are too far removed from the time frame of their source material. Edited by Marshal Rohr

I think he looks a bit too Lightning Bearer-y lol

I agree. Even after opening the thread and consciously registering the title, my first impression was the Lightning Bearers. The head, in tandem with the cloak and brooch, is too similar to the aesthetics of your other project. That said, I love the pose and the use of the Ashen Circle body.

Brilliant model from yourself (par for the course really).

I like just Osiris for the name. From a legion of occultists and psychers, the power of a name cannot be overestimated. (Case in point what happened in the thousand sons/prospero burns scenario) I am quite taken with the idea of each legionnaire holding back a part of their name, or adopting a new name upon joining the legion.

I'd definitely say corvidae. As a fleet commander, being able to predict and outmanoeuvre opponents would be invaluable so far as abilities go.

Excellent use of the high elf Mage parts by the way.

Had never considered how much of a goldmine that model is/was for parts. Ditto for the regular kit and empire wizards.

Lovely work, been lurking for a while!

Do you build up your white with a couple of layers using Vallejo? I found the gw stuff clumpy on my work.

I'm Achaean (get it) for them to come out, but am playing with bloody angels (yes.. Red again) until they are released!

Thanks for all the replies! I've done a bit more Work on Osiris, Magnetizing the backpack to make it swappable with a Jump pack, and so I also too the opportunity to magnetize an Anvilus pattern Backpack. I figured that since these packs were designed to give additional maneuverability in low gravity environments, It would behoove a Void Commander to have access to one. Additionally, I redid the Belt Scarab with a bit more detail making it smaller and including legs:

Also, I went back and redid the hair as that is something that I seem to always dislike on the first pass. I dislike bald space Marines and I'm not a fan of crew cuts either so Hair is always a must, I think this turned out much better. Version (A):

I've also done a similar hairstyle on an alternate head (.B.), because I'm having trouble deciding between the alternate Versions. Version (.B.) head is also slightly smaller so it fits further down into the cowl which is an interesting looking. What do you think, A or B.

Also, I had never given much thought to whether or not he 'looked like a Lightning Bearer' I guess I don't see it, but if you guys think I should scrap him maybe I'll have to reevaluate his use with my Thousand Sons Army.

++++

I Love Corvidea, but since my Lightning Bearers army are all Divinators, I feel like maybe I should do something different.

That said, the choices which resonate most with me are Corvidea since I love Scryers, Raptora since Kine shields would be useful in boarding assault, and Pavoni to play into the characters namesake Osiris as the god of rebirth.

Anyways, let me know what you think about the alterations, and the head variants!

Thanks!

Head option A all the way. While the second head definitely has that 'cool dude' anime vibe with the scarf/cloak half masking his face, I feel that he seems like much less of a inspiring leader-type and more of the Mysterious Stranger who dives in at the last minute and saves everyone. Another option that I would suggest is using head option B with a minuscule amount of greenstuff acting as a spacer to raise it halfway between the position of  A and B, which, as I imagine it, would give it a little bit of the feeling of both.

Honestly, he does look a bit like one of your Lightning Bearers, but I think that has more to do with your personal style of modeling than anything else. I can see that model and say "oh look, Athrawes built that." without being provided with outside input beyond a picture. It's a gift that a few modelers on this forum possess, BCK and Hyaenidae f'rex, and I think you're one of those modelers. Basically, it looks like a Lightning Bearer because the Lightning Bearers are the undiluted expression of your style and the army that you're best known for, but it's a distinctive aesthetic that carries across all of your models, including this one.

I think the look is just due to the bishounen hair and cloak - that and his sword is alike to Raiden's. Ultimately, it's up to you man.

I don't know what to do differently than to add a loincloth or maybe a familiar. I love the Anvillus backpack (gonna have to steal that) but as it stands...I see Sasuke Uchiha in power armor. Don't take it as criticism, it's just what comes to mind lol :D

Edit: Also he^^ brings up a good point that it could just be your style.

There is still a fair bit of cleanup to do, and I might try to redo the eyes but otherwise Osiris is almost done. I'm not sold on the dark grey cloak, but I don't want Blue like the robes (as I want those to be distinctive) and White might wash out the paleness of his face. Dark grey might just be the best of available options.

@AO108 : the sword is from the Death Watch White Scar, bike guy.

I'm super excited for the new thousand sons releases. I put in an order today for 15 Mk IV Achaen Tactical Marines, 5 Mk IV Achaen Heavy Support marines with Proteus missile launchers, and the Thousand Sons Contemptor with a few different arm options.

I'm still not sold on the TS Contemptor, but I am still holding out hope for it, as the designer said that there would be transfers on the TS transfer sheet specifically designed to fill up several of the blank flat spaces on the Contemptor. As it is, I love the legs, shoulders and adore the head. But the torso is a bit of a missed opportunity.

Just to be clear (and avoid any disappointments later down the line), since I reported that...

The decals he told me about were only for these grooves on the legs:

Exceptional work, as always.

Oddly, I pictured his ethnicity as Arabic or Indian when unpainted, but there we go with presumptions!

Have to say though I absolutely love all the little trinkets. Don't detract too much at first glance but add a lot of depth on a closer viewing.

They'll be like Cartouches then? That's pretty cool.

I said it over on the heresy30k forum, but your work here, and the new TS models that went up Friday, have got me pretty interested in the legion. I'm not sure why I wasn't before because I really like the Egyptian look and the colour scheme. I think I just generally don't gravitate towards wizards/mages etc. But yeah, your stuff is stunning.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got a chance to try out the new Psychic Powers in a game today. I'm officially in love with Geomancy and Fulmination.

To that end I present:

Magister Deidara

Electromancer of the Order of Ruin; XV Legion

This was the very first model I had created for my Thousand Sons Project, back before I had even tried the matte paint scheme, so I'm very pleased to show him to you guys now. I think he still holds up very well, even compared to Osiris.

I know that Osiris stands out a bit from the standard depiction of Prosperine Legionaries, but in that light I think Deidara is a great foil, as his model was heavily influenced by classic Thousand Sons sorcerer artwork, Phosis T'kar in particular.

I'd love to hear your thoughts as always!
