What have your Raven Guard done lately?

I got a three game tourney in on the 22nd. I brought a pretty standard list for me. Jump Captain, 20 ASM, four Land Speeders, dakka Pred, Whirlwind, etc. It was my first outing with Primaris models, as I put five Intercessors in the list.

I hung in the middle of the pack all day. All very close ITC games.

The Intercessors just hung out near an objective each game, popping out only to help focus down units that got too close to my deployment zone. I think most people found them not worth dealing with when I had plenty of other units coming toward them.

Datalink Telemetry was fun. I was running the Castellan missiles (2d6, S6, AP0). Opponents either tried hard to take out the Whirlwind when it was visible, or try to take down all the Speeders in one turn. I ran two singles with Heavy Bolters and a two model squadron with multimeltas. Cheap and disposable.

Next month I'll likely remove the WW for more Intercessors because while it was interesting, it didn't really do a ton of damage, averaging six shots a turn. Maybe having a Lieutenant nearby would have helped. A non Jump Captain would also probably replace the Speeders and Datalink Telemetry easily enough, though the Speeders were effective at nabbing objectives as well.

It was nice to not have to run Tactical Marines who die to a stiff breeze.

My Raven Guard have been semi-retired.

I gave my wife a good chunk of my rank and file troops to repaint as Blood Angels.

The remainder will be repainted as Knights of the Raven. It's easier for me to make the silver look good and KotR are rarely seen (never seen any in my local meta).

I painted my first model in their colors for the Boxing Day Bash. 2nd Company Lt. Used the 500 Store Celebration model with a power sword from the basic Tactical kit and a Grey Knights helmet.

Frankly, that a good retirement :tu:

Honestly, after over 3000 points of RG and another 2000 points of Deathwatch I'm really tired of painting black. Part of why I chose Lugganath for my first foray into xenos heresy. Nice bright orange.

And I didn't want all those FW pads I bought to go to waste.

So today I wrote a mini-campaign for me and two mates. I have also twonked about with my list. Again.

I shall deliver information as it develops... possibly in updating posts if the powers that be will allow such egregious double postings...

Brought a thousand points of raven guard to support my guard army the other day. With shrikes reroll bubble I failed the vanguards 9" charge, the LTs 9" charge, shrikes 9" charge.... then they were pretty much killed to a man.

That's with the charge rerolls Shrike gives? Man just bad karma. :(

As a Chapter Master, Shrikes stat line could use a bump but don't forget his 4+  invul also

Can't wait to see your Raven equivalent to my KoB. :D

Unfortunately that's the to be expected result. A 9“ charge even with re-rolls has still a less than 50% chance of success. My Grey Knights buddy keeps doing that to himself and when it works it's great but it rarely does. :/ Edited by sfPanzer

Built another Intercessor squad the other night while chilling

Stalker squad, to see if the strat's are worth anything...

I'm slowly getting to a point where I've built more Primaris than regular marines.

I'm also slowly running out of my old Pop Goes the Monkey shoulder pads which were near spot on

Other vendors the logo sizes are too small or big, or miss out on certain details because of IP :ermm:

How close are Mk4 shoulder pads to Mk7? The FW ones are facing the right direction at least!

Do boltgun profiles as modeled really matter that much on the table? I have yet to buy the box to build a full squad and I know the different options are there. I love WYSIWYG but when I saw that I figured I'd build what I thought looked the coolest and then call them whatever on the table.

Tbh especially with the primaris models I kinda feel the same way

With the bolters and hellblasters the changes are so minute you couldn't tell from a distance on the table.

Even if you were playing competitively most players probably wouldn't even be able to tell if you pointed it out.

I just erred on the side of caution I guess.

I intend to do the same. I have the squad from Dark Imperium (which are Bolt Rifles), otherwise, most of what I build I intend to use the Auto Bolters, simply because I dig the box mad more than the other two options (though Box Mag WITH Scope from Stalker would be sweet)

I'm going to my FLGS next week to play in their 'skirmish' night. It'll either be a 650 point game or KT. I know a couple guys that go and my schedule has finally lightened up so I'm going and very excited. I've got enough stuff painted now that I will only play with painted models. That means my lists my not be 'optimal' but It's a requirement I want to do my best to keep. I also want to have fun and not go to beat face.

Here's my 650 list that I was able to cram into a battalion for the CP.

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Space Marines) [48 PL, 648pts] ++

**Chapter Selection**: Raven Guard

+ HQ +

. Primaris Lieutenant: Master-crafted auto bolt rifle, Storm of Fire, The Armour Indomitus, Warlord

. Primaris Lieutenant: Master-crafted auto bolt rifle

+ Troops +

Scout Squad

. Scout Sergeant: Bolt pistol, Boltgun

. 3x Scout w/Boltgun

. Scout w/Heavy Weapon: Heavy bolter

Scout Squad: 5x Camo cloak

. Scout Sergeant: Boltgun, Sniper rifle

. 4x Scout w/Sniper Rifle: 4x Sniper rifle

Tactical Squad

. 5x Space Marine

. Space Marine Sergeant: Boltgun/Bolt pistol

. Space Marine w/Heavy Weapon: Heavy bolter

+ Fast Attack +

Assault Squad: Jump Pack

. 2x Space Marine

. Space Marine Sergeant: Chainsword, Plasma pistol

. Space Marine w/Special Weapon

. . Plasma Pistol & Chainsword: Plasma pistol

. Space Marine w/Special Weapon

. . Plasma Pistol & Chainsword: Plasma pistol

+ Heavy Support +

Devastator Squad

. Space Marine

. Space Marine Sergeant: Chainsword

. Space Marine w/Heavy Weapon: Lascannon

. Space Marine w/Heavy Weapon: Lascannon

. Space Marine w/Heavy Weapon: Plasma cannon

. Space Marine w/Heavy Weapon: Missile launcher

Primary concern is that EVERYTHING is painted. My Primaris LT's are the two I've got done for my Spectral Sicarii KT. My backstory for this list is that they're completing training before deploying as true Spectral Sicarii so they are leading a small force of RG as their final test. Boltgun scouts will deploy forward to deny board control. I might do the same with the snipers if I can find a good space on a board edge, otherwise they'll sit in cover, hopefully near an objective with a good lane of fire.

Devastators will hang out with an LT and be my anti-tank role. I had 45 points that I didn't know what to do with so I game them an extra marine as a meat shield, but I'm debating on moving him with the tac squad. SPeaking of them the tactical squad will foot slog it around the board and hopefully provide pressure while grabbing ojectives. I'm planning on my warlord hanging out with them.

The assault squad will be my teeth. I realize these are more herbivore than carnivore but I like them and they can move around. I'm hoping the plasma will get things done and if I can get them close to the LT for rerolls I will.

I'm open to thoughts or suggestions but realize the only other painted stuff I have is an Inceptor squad (which I might be able to squeeze in if I drop the assault squad and the extra marines), a Cataphractii terminator squad and a captain in Cataphractii armor. Those are all real point heavy and my current list gets me more bodies on the table.

I'm not considering any vigilus stuff because I haven't read the book yet. If there is something in there that I should look at please let me know!

Here is the Kill Team List:

++ Kill Team List (Adeptus Astartes) [100pts] ++

+ Leader +

Tactical Sergeant: Boltgun and Bolt Pistol, Leader

+ Specialists +

Intercessor: Auspex, Bolt rifle, Comms

Intercessor Gunner: Auxiliary grenade launcher, Demolitions, Stalker bolt rifle

Tactical Marine Gunner: Heavy, Heavy bolter

+ Non-specialists +

Scout: Boltgun

Scout Gunner: Sniper rifle and Camo cloak

Tactical Marine Gunner: Flamer

Coming in right at 100 points. I don't have a true roster built up so I'll just take this and see what it does.

Background for this list is that my two Spectral Sicarii Intercessors are training with their RG brethren. They are learning how a kill team operates before they deploy in a pure Spectral Sicarii kill team.

My two intercessors will hang out with each other. The COMMS+AUSPEX should give my grenade boy some nice bonuses for his shots. I'me debating giving him SNIPER instead of DEMOLITIONS so he can re-roll.

I like the HB on a HEAVY marine because he can run around and be a mobile fire base.

Sniper scout will try to find a good fire lane and control it, other scout is there to help back up the HB.

I'm leaning towards keeping the plain scout, HB, and leader near each other as a small unit to bolster each other and help take out units with weight of fire.

I like the look of the 650 list - it seems balanced and a fairly nice all-comers list.  I'm not a fan of mixed Devastator squads, but that's my OCD (and you have a points limit...)

Let us all know how your games go.

For me, my Dark Eagles got a new home. I purchased a new case so all of them (bar the Drop Pods and Storm Raven) can live in one place. That made me a happy bunny.
