Are you the inspiration behind corporal nobby nobbs, StD?

Ooh a city watch themed enforcer gang... With a jokaero librarian, a squat who is 6ft6inches tall, a werewolf, a golem (or this being 40k some sort of sentient mechanicus robot), several squats and ogryns.

Here ya go :P

and whatcha mean 'inspiration'? I AM Nobby Nobbs!!!

The Watch/Enforcer idea did cross my mind but I didn't fancy re reading all the Watch books again. Maybe one day though, I did download all the Pratchett audiobooks last year so I could stick them on when I paint and take notes at the same time.

So perhaps a Guilder Town in Primus Hive called Ankh Morpork, home of the Guilder Baron known only as 'The Patrician', the unseeing university which tests those with 'the gift', The Wyrd Sisters a group of female wyrds who live in the outlands of Lancre near an abandoned webway gate which they try and keep closed to ward off dark eldar raiders.

Okay this is seriously starting to inspire a whole Necromundan Dome.

Well John Blanche and his Inq28 mates have group projects they all work on then meet up at Warhammer World for a day of gaming, I think us Brit Frater here should do a similar thing and do a Diskworld 'Munda day.

Question to all you necromunda fans! Is there any good links to read up on the different gangs etc? I'm quite looking forward to the re release having missed out on the original and am looking at getting my converting game on. But I am not too sure on what gang and where to start. Google hasn't been too helpful, some low res minis that some look like the originals but some are just alternatives.

Mrs Vitt has read two of the Pratchett Witches books, I've read all the Pratchett books except for the last one he wrote as I know once I read it, I will never be able to read a new Terry Pratchett novel :(

As to good sources for Necromunda information go to Yaktribe which is a Bolter and Chainsword for all things Necromunda/Gorkamorka and Mordhiem. They have a lot of pdf downloads covering the rulebooks and journals now out of production which includes a lot of source material and background...

Finally got my plastic Orloks but they need a ton of work do to with the scaling issues. Part of me is wanting to go 100% nostalgia and just paint them as is, a bigger part of me is twitching every time I look at the proportions. I have cut a couple up which kind of feels a bit blasphemous at the moment but I really enjoy updating old edition models so will probably try a few first. They might make good Juves to be honest as stock models.

I have a ton of ideas for gangs, maybe too many to be honest. I did start a pipeline repair team for SW:A that is calling to me to be finished I may take a second look at. Too many possibilities but I think I may just start off with the Orloks then go back and look at other gangs.

@Excessus @Slavetodarkness How strange, guess that makes me the coolest girl ya know :biggrin.:  All my girl friends are avid Discworld and all things Pratchett readers. I'm having trouble thinking If I know anybody who doesn't love Pratchett. I've got 5 female friends that even play Warhammer!

@Corsovitt The Shephard's Crown is a really lovely book, but you will cry a lot reading it. You can see so much of Pratchett in Granny Weatherwax

@Doghouse I say convert! I would love to see what you amazing skills do with those old minis!

Really? I always thought him and Gaiman appealed quite broadly regardless of gender. I think most of the Pratchett fans I've encountered have been women, actually.

But anyway, Necromunda actually getting redone is one of the things I never really dared to believe in.

I've got a bunch of Escher lying around, but I don't know if I'll be going with the old models or starting over with the new ones. It really depends on how well they manage to capture the old school feelm because if the models are good I'd really prefer plastic.

In any case, I guess I gotta start looking for things that can be turned into scenery :)

The two Escher I have seen so far have been a bit 'eh, not bad' IMHO. One has a mask on so I cant really comment on the face and the other has a shockingly pink skin tone, again not too sure whats going on with the face, but from the neck down they look ok. Im just concerned we will end up with mono pose kits and everyones gangs will look the same.

As for scenery, since the news dropped I have been eating Pringles at an alarming rate, all my mates have been saving take away pizza boxes and I have started drinking that fancy ass Nescafe coffee in the shiny silver metal tubs (tastes crap and isnt worth the money tbh, Douwe Egberts all day every day!!!!). Yesterday I even went nosing about on a building site looking for offcuts of pipe, the guys said go back next week and they should have something for me.

Not sure what I am gonna do with all this junk but thats part of the fun. (back in my day we had to make our own scenery, minis were made of lead, I had to carry 8 books to use one army and it was a 5 mile treck through Nid infested jungle UPHILL to get to my nearest GW!! You whippersnappers dont know how easy y'all have it) :D

Well I think that is the beauty and appeal of Necromunda, conversion opportunities are only limited by your imagination. I'm currently looking at the Imperial Agents artwork books for ideas but it is very hard to focus on any one theme right now. :D

I think once the official plastics come out it'll be easier but I really hope they do Spyrers, I love the main gangs but there is something appealing about going Predator in the Underhive.

I sort of like the new Eschers but you'd be hard pressed to beat the originals.

You sound like me when it comes to terrain, just make sure you draw the line at using road kill. I've seen some horrifying "art" pieces in the past when it comes to 40k and dead animal parts that haunt me to this very day. :D

I think we may be the Uncle Alberts of 40k mate, "During the first edition..."

This seems odd to me. I've no idea how many women I know who've read his books (I've taken no surveys) but it's definitely lots, and I'm friends with at least three women who are bonkers Pratchett fans.

Munda!

I'm nervous about Ne(w)cromunda having a new rules set based on 8th ed. That's not to say that the old rules didn't have some problems, but I'm not confident that they can make a new system that's better. I'm also not enthusiastic about 8th's rules to begin with.

But I'm very excited for new models and for fresh interest and engagement in the setting. And I'm so happy they didn't do something dumb, like make it an expansion for Shadow War, or twist the setting into something unrecognizable.

I have the big hardbound compiled tome o' Necromunda from when I played it way back when, but yeah: if the new rules are butt, one can always play using the old rules, provided one can find willing opponents.

This is anecdotal of course, but my experience has always been that people (or at least, the people around me) don't want to play a game unless it is 1) the most recent edition and 2) currently supported. This is why my bookshelves sag with the weight of games I love that I don't get to play anymore, or in some cases have never gotten to play at all.

The internet tells me that there are still groups of people playing Necromunda out there, and knowing that warms my heart, but it doesn't get me a game.

It may be moot. Maybe I'll think the new rules are awesome when I see them, and maybe loads of people in my area will want to play it. We'll see. In the meantime, I'm just gonna be excited about models. Rules are ephemeral, but models, carefully preserved in foam trays, are forever.

("Forever" is a word which here means "until after my death, when whoever the poor bastards are who have to deal with all my junk throw my models in a dumpster with the rest of my possessions, or until my apartment building burns down, whichever happens first.")

...

(I'm cheerful!)
