Pearson73
Very very nice job indeed, you're right to be proud! The face is really well done and I like how you've integrated the hazard stripes without them appearing to garish or distracting from all those lovely details. Cpt Danjou Cheers guys!! Was actually super happy with the hazards - so much so that I think my favourite view of him is from the back where they’re on full display! Next up, Leviathan dreadnought! k0nahrik
Hey all, been a long time since I updated this particular thread! Iron Warriors went on the back burner for a bit when I started my Slaaneshi White Scars, then, moving cities, picking up a Black Legion force, university, it’s been a long time! Recently got the itch to return to them however, and I’ve got a pretty big dump of photos to drop here for your enjoyment. First up, I’ll start with where I left off - the Leviathan! This is the main thing that motivated me to get back into this army, as it’s been staring at me from my cabinet, primed and waiting for paint, all this time. For starters, I’ll show off some WIP pics that should illustrate the conversion work that went into this guy. So, I swapped out the head for the one from the old FW iron warriors chaos dreadnought. Amazing model, the head is probably the best part, and it fit perfectly. Kind of. I wanted to actually show it off, which is impossible with the big gorget that it’s got. So that had to go, leaving me with a pretty messy gap. No matter! Green stuff a new trim for the lowered gorget, small icon from an Astra militarum gun shield, and bob’s your uncle. I also added some rivets to the side chest plates, and swapped out the heavy flamers for autocannons, to max out that iron warriors flavour. I also added a few ball bearings to the eyes to make him appear a little more menacing, with glowing red eyes instead of lenses. On to the paint job! I’m really happy with how it came out. All the hazard stripes are freehand, and I think I balanced them nicely so they aren’t super overpowering. Added a couple of decals of the legion badge plus a few very small ones on the shoulders that show crusade honours. The chest autocannons are magnetised so they can be swapped for game-legal heavy flamers. There are a few details I’m particularly proud of: First is the heat stain on the exhausts Second, the bloody hand print on the leg. Maybe left behind by a passing, wounded legionnaire - a pat of encouragement or reassurance. Maybe the desperate attempt of a stomping-victim to claw their way out of certain death. And that’s all for the leviathan. Super happy with how he came out! Next up, I’ve got the beginnings of a squad of Iron Havocs. Been wanting to do these bad boys for a while but had to find a source for some OOP forgeworld autocannons and the old MKII armour. As you can see, I used legs from the chaos havocs to add a bit of size and wider stances befitting their nature as heavy weapons experts. Removed all the chaos trims, and for the second guy I swapped the torso for the one from the LE FW standard bearer - the sort of unnofficial Remus Ventanus model, before he got his official HHCS update. Last, but certainly not least, is the ‘sergeant’ of my Iron Havocs. This is Cetus Malthorg. Cetus Malthorg is a veteran Iron Warrior of some repute - known equally for his incredibly effective results as a commander, as for his ‘fast and loose’ interpretation of chain of command. Cetus has bounced between legion high command from a praetor, captain of his own company, to a lowly sergeant, and this explains why his wargear is so personalised and advanced in comparison to his squad mates. He has recently been demoted to a lowly sergeant after disobeying a direct command from his superior - if not for the fact that the result of this disobedience resulted in an enormous tactical advantage and victory in the face of heavy projected losses, he’d probably have been executed. But, above all else, Perturabo values results, and forbade Malthorg’s execution. I like to imagine him as Aldo Raine under that helmet. ‘You’ll be shot for this!’ ‘Nah, more like chewed out, I been chewed out before.’ As you can see, Malthorg has a pretty crazy set of equipment. An autocannon mounted to a servo arm to free up his hands, with which he wields a collapsible chainfist of his own invention, a volkite caliver, and a power fist with it’s own in-build hand flamer. His power fist only bears three fingers, after he bit his own pinky off after losing a bet with some rough-and-ready Solar Auxilia troops they had been pinned down with. Okay, that’s everything for today! Rest assured there is more to come. Thanks for reading! k0nahrik
Hey guys, another small addition to the IVth today! I decided it's time my praetor gets an update to his model. He's been leading the army since 2018, and there are a whole bunch of real good kits that have been released since then, not least of which is the updated warpsmith - the old finecast warpsmith formed the basis of the old model, so the new plastic one made a great jumping off point for the new one. I de-chaosified the warpsmith as much as possible. Added some layered plating and chainmail to the legs, to sort of mirror what was on the old model. Used a few parts from the new MKII centurion to finish up the rest of the model - I really like the greco-roman flavour of the helmet, and it's something I nwant to incorporate more into my IW going on. Just need to source a servo arm and fill in the gap on the leg. and this guy will be ready for paint. Let me know what you think!
