These options are both very tempting. :)

I was thinking more along the line, how it would make a nice entry for an extended cast to investigate what happened to the Team sent to Syndalla once / if the Astropath Gerd through.

Or a Team sent to deal with the hive fleet splinter desoriented once we take out the Broodlord....

Learning of which, what are we making out of the cryptic lead on it?

Don't worry Xin, I have plans! I spent today in a strategy meeting and I actually have the episodes 2-11 sketched out! A sector-spanning story against mighty adversaries... if we get there!

Update later tonight (~4 hours)

Looking forward to it CM, it sounds like a fantastic campaign and I for one will stick around for as long as you'll have me!

Well, that is one hell of a strategy meeting! Proud to be along for the ride!

So, regarding my post:

Here's the map I've drawn up for the next combat. I'm pretty pleased for it, given how shoddily put together it is in paint.

Squares are the typical 5 metres. The buildings are several stories high, but can be travelled through with some abstractions. In front of the barrack walls is a plaza of deceased saints. The triangles represent heavy weapons teams armed with heavy stubbers. You may choose where in the three roads on the left to deploy (within the first two columns.)  You could also deploy within the Chimera - and if you wish, you could have brought the astropath with you, though she may be vulnerable should you choose to remove her from the tower.

I will leave this for some discussion with you before I put it up properly in the thread?

Okay, my first question is about the mag size of the blocks of troops, I'm thinking they are 30-40-ish, but I'm not sure...

Any ways, what I'm thinking is have our Jump-packers take out the heavy weapon squads, then descend on the self-propelled artillery vehicles, while we let our stronger ranged guys thin the hordes... with the Chimera helping out, she's got good guns for this.

Edit:

I agree with MR, let's leave the fragile meat-sack behind, as useful as she might be, having her get killed now might be problematic later.

We're in a chimera...might think we're friendly...

Either way I'm going to bolt myself to the top of it whilst Xin drives it forward.  Two HB's and a Multilaser can't be sniffed at, although I'll be shooting at the middle Basilisk...

Does this thing have a Heavy stubber pintle?

Assaulters high and killing the machine-gunners sounds like a plan Steel.

We could get the House Qurn troops to either take the Astropath somewhere safe or have them fortify the tower and protect her. From what she told us the Broodlord is probably somewhere in the manufactorum/Mechanicus district or we take her with us like a psychic geiger counter :biggrin.:

For reference, the siege guns are effectively basilisks but with demolisher cannons. They are open-topped like a basilisk.

Steel, you can assume the hordes are approximately magnitude 40 each, but I don't think it is always necessary for you to know that before the battle.

It's also worth reminding you that this mission does take place at night, so there is darkness, and in this case there's a lot of noise as well.

Hopefully that will allow you to discuss some strategies, and I can put the revised map up tonight.

I trust those House Qurn punks about as far as I can throw them, which is shorter than a bolter shot, although the psychic gieger counter did make me chuckle :)

Lots of noise, dark and raining....

MR.

The most important thing for me in the short term will be where you want to start, as that will enable me to create the map.

You can decide who is in the chimera, who is out of it, and which of the three roads you start on. If you wish, the chimera can also be placed on any of the three roads. As I said, only the two left columns.

For reference:

K - Khyber Vaidan

D - Daon Akkad
S - Solastion
N - Nycax Sabaan
G - Greysight
A - Atratus
T - Tyber
V - Varvost

Suggestion:

Chimera starts on the road, where it is now, Xin is operating/driving, Vaidan mans the guns/drives, I'll stand out of the back hatch, heavy bolter up and ready.  AT how would you feel about giving Greysight a lift?  Then you could murder a stubber team, use your rifle, Greysight takes the stubber.  Steel and Varvost (Varvost can maybe give Solastion a lift so Varv is free to assault) do the same, then AT's rifle is free, the heavy stubbers are all manned, we have elevation for frag grenades and the Death Truck, as I will now call 2-12 is manned and a bit of a smoke wagon...drawing fire if need be.

We casually roll up as close as we can, 2-12 opens up and becomes a firebase, everyone else begins killing?

MR.

We could keep her in the Chimera with us, good solid hull, couple of lads with her?  She does have a laspistol...

One thing that is nagging at me is that House Qurn are weapons dealers, so would have a suitable stockpile of guns for these rebels.  Might be useful to acquire some of the weapons, have a look at them closely.  Vortis would surely know the business interests of his "allies" so would recognise them...Mol, remind me, where is Far Dalthus?

MR.

The Dalthus Sector is my personal corner of the 40k universe, it's the centre of my INQ28 group's campaigns and game days. Here's the most recent draft of their map (I need to come back to this and improve it:)

Hyades is a hive-world that's also been where my former Dark Heresy games (The Higher Call) took place.

In the top right of this map you can see the Howling Stars, which is where the Castigators' homeworld of Losanco is.

You may remember that Governor Orlai said this when you first met him:

"We have ancient and hereditary ties with the Wardens of the Howling Stars, but you are not they; our records speak of their crimson warplate. Others, then? Here within the Taurelian depths, we lie many leagues away from Far Dalthus. We did not think the Emperor would bless us with aid from the mighty Astartes. Are your war-hosts to deploy soon?"

The Taurelian Expanse rests in the Outer Swordpoint Stars, not a true part of the Dalthan sector space, though I imagine the Expanse is a little lawless, it's unincorporated space that the Imperium doesn't have true control over. To the nobles of Syndalla, Dalthus is a very long way away, and they perhaps resent its nominal control over their space.

So they siege guns are effective Medusa's then, okay that makes sense.

Tyber will begin outside of the Chimera and head for the closer of the two buildings with the heavy weapon squad.

Still waiting on the Techmarines to look at my autocorrect...

I love that map! And I can't say how having such a sandbox of your own little part of the Galaxy for gaming in different systems (Inq, DW, etc) is! I always wanted to do something like this but there are just not enough 40k nuts in my area ( or tabletop warfare in general ) :(

Really, really appreciate the effort you put into this,Mol!

Nycax will be in the Chimera, for obvious reasons. Can the hull mounted bolter be fired from the driver position / enginseer station ( we agreed that with the devoarm and all, the usual positions won't fit IIRC).

Good thing the Siege guns are open topped - once you guys clear the roofs, you can let it rain on them!

Thanks for the compliments, Xin, they are really appreciated.

I have rolled up initiative (and no, I'm not telling you the enemy initiatives just yet...) in the main thread. Let me know if you want me to spend a fate point for you.

Once I've got a clearer answer on starting positions, I will move forward. Reyner, if you read this then obviously as Sergeant you are free to issue some orders to the Kill-Team.

Wow Mol, that's some expanse, I did a few maps like the ones in BFG for my Inquisitor mob over the years, but stuck mainly to the Jericho reach for DW.

That sir, is some top tier stuff right there, most impressive!

Nothing further from me game-wise.

as much as Id like to have a Psychic Geiger counter, we kinda do want our only means of communication with the wider Imperium to not be in Astartes-Grade levels of "Just another day at work" :P

So, at the moment it seems to be:

Sabaan and Akkad (and Solastion) in/on the Chimera

Varvost, Tyber and Atratus outside

Greysight outside

Vaidan?

Also, if you can come up to a consensu as to where the Astropath is, I will factor that in.
