Either is cool Dos, though an Invader and a descendant of the the 13th in the same squad could make for an interesting dynamic, when it comes to the interpenetration of the big blue book...

Are you sure you're not confusing the Invaders with the Hammers of Dorn? :)

Maybe? Most of the Spawn of Dorn are interchangeable... only really the Black Templars stand out as really different to me.

Welcome back Dos - good to see you changed your forum picture back from that pesky GSC pic ! It was just asking for friendly fire otherwise ;)

And welcome Noctus and Sun Reaver!

There are some nice ideas floating around already. Don't know much about the Invades but I always liked the colour scheme.

As Mol pointed out, this is currently way before the events in the new ADB novel....whichI am increasingly hyped

About for various reasons. I think this is enough to go by for covering the Spears pre Dark Imperium from what Ihave seen - that might make a fun challenge..

Also nice to see Tyber rise to the gallant hero ideal there !

And glad Akkad could get away from my messy driving intact :)

Still have to fill out that placeholder in the meantime.

Oh, and @ Mol is that a general idea that we are moving away from the the First Legions / Chapters in the upcoming episodes? I like Sabaan but I could brew something up with a little head start if we are looking for a clean slate here....

As much as possible I'd like to avoid the First Legions - additionally, I don't want any more of the Badab Chapters (so no Carcharadons, Lamenters, etc.) Feel free to have a think about a few options and I can help you out with which might be the best fit for the game.

EDIT: A reminder - this game is set in 918.M41, which does mean some of our more "famous" 40k events haven't happened yet! Feel free to consult the 40k timeline if that helps. Additionally, it appears due to the vagaries of astropathic transmission that news of the Badab War has yet to reach Watch-Station Azurea...

Ah yes, Akkad can't wait to hear from home - has Huron fallen into a black hole yet?  Silly old Commodus been eaten by a Squiggoth? Have my buddies finally scoured the Maelstrom and made peace with the Fire Hawks?

Just like any Marine on deployment - can't wait for the mailbag!

MR.

So many options! Hmm, I’m thinking either a tactical marine or an apothecary. Would I be able to work my way up to a Chaplain if I chose the latter?

Due to the unique role of Druids in the chapter, I’m thinking being an apothecary and not a techmarine doesn’t make much sense. If that ends up being the case, as I’d like to not over complicate things, my choices then boil down to either a tactical marine or asssult marine, despite the fact that we got plenty of the second option already.

Current players: I will be doing an update tonight (in about seven hours from this post) which will take us to the end of the round if nobody has posted by that time.

Sun Reaver: If the Spears' specialists create such a wrinkle it might perhaps be best for us to focus on a more "normal" Marine of the Chapter, especially as it gives you an opportunity to explore the Chapter that you enjoy so much. In which case, a Tactical Marine / Assault Marine / Devastator might be a better fit for you right now.

CM, I was flipping through Rights of Battle this morning and I came to page 42 and I think I might have found a solid advancement table for the Invaders Chapter; table 1-40 Xeno Bane or with some mental gymnastics maybe table 1-32 Death from Afar on page 40 might work with some alterations.

Edit:

Nifty, I found the Invaders Chapter stats in Honour the Chapter Rule book, page 118, with the codex advancement table found on page 99... Kind of great that they get Hatred: Eldar as a bonus talent too.

Tacticals are what we're a little shy of at the minute, we're actually very front and back heavy, with light midfield.

When you're thinking characters and abilities, try to look for holes in the rota that will give your chap a chance to shine - and I don't just mean specialisations, things like....you know DEMOLITIONS.

For example, this was highlighted during the shuttle escape.  If I had gone with Marines Errant instead of Astral Claws, I would have been able to fly the shuttle, land it, fix it and all sorts.  In fact, when Akkad finally finishes, I would like to call dibs on Haeron Aklo, Tactical Marine of the Marines Errant, who loves shotguns and Naval Boltguns and can fly spacecraft and actually fight in Zero-G.

Seriously, someone take Demolitions.

MR.

Seriously.

Demolitions.

:D @ Steel

Of course brother - my mistake.  One of our Devs could bring one?  I did consider it myself, but the HB is the better weapon for my skills/traits/abilities.

MR.

Youll regret saying that when youre the one with the Meltabomb and have to roll demolitions to make sure you dont nuke yourself in the attempt.

Trust me, Ive come VERY close and have since Taken Demolitions ASAP.

(Sorry, Like Xin I have run out of "Likes")

As for where we're going with Characters; as much as I like Solastion, I feel like I might go with a "Raven Guard" (most likely successor) super-stealth marine who also acts as the squads Spotter for any snipers we have; useful for when we start getting access to a Signum's as well as opening up a bit more opportunity for RPing outside being essentially Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (which I dont dislike).

Tactical Marines are basically one of the classes that has +/- the widest access to the elite advanced specialties as well as the easiest access to them.

So you might feel generic at the start without much real specialization but once everything starts to kick in, Tac Marines have a LOT that they can do.

Mazer: Where did you find that? :ohmy.:

Honour the Chapter - it's in the back along with a special Relic Shotgun for the Marines Errant called "Linebreaker" and an Astral Claw "Claw."

Sun, looks like the easiest (and xp cheapest way) into Chaplin, would be tactical marine as they have lower Willpower and Fellowship advance costs.

Wisdom.

Truth.  Jack of all trades, Master of none - but have seen some really cool builds that go into the Signature Wargear + Bolter and extras with special ammo that makes for some very cool rifleman type builds.

I wouldn't be against my future Devastator rocking a missile launcher :nuke:  it could make a half decent club in melee too!

That's the spirit - nothing wrong with being armed with a giant rolling pin or baseball bat - ask the Angry Marines and best of it is, a Soundstrike can fire 8 times before reload and you can choose which missile in your arsenal comes next!  Special ammunition for the boomtube comes in all shapes and sizes...anti-plant, nova, incendiary!  Oh my!

Do Red Talons like explosions?  Cause the Deathwatch got explosions! (Demolitionstakedemolitionssomeone).

As to new characters for existing players, remember what Mol said - don't be too quick to ditch em!  Am sure exciting times lie ahead!

I'm not planning on Tyber's going anywhere until one of the following happens:

He hits 100 corruption/insanity

Completes rank 8

Dies after burning all his Fate

Dies as a freaking Dreadnought (if he can get to that point).
