Are we seeing a peak at a possible possessed in there too?

Its not a possessed, its some kind of mutant kill team specialism.

Not really any evidence of future possesseed stuff since it just looks a bit like one of the Shadowspear Greater possessed.

By peak I don’t literally mean he’s designed to be one in the kill team.. more directions GW could go modeling wise, and ideas for conversions…

Overall boring upgrade sprue... where is the whacky new tech from the dark mechanicus?

Well, I think this upgrade sprue looks amazing, another source for the chaincannon and new options bringing versatility to a squad that's increasingly felt like the moustache twirly goons of the setting is a real breath of fresh air for CSM imo.

Having the terrain double up from last year's Charadon boxset feels pretty lame though - I was really hoping for some Eldar terrain just like how the Orks had some. Oh well

Well, well, well... ;)

Really nice models, if I had Eldar or DEldar I'd be all over these. I still think I'll go with Rangers when I do Eldar in Kill Team.

Given that the last Kill Team expansion saw a shiny new kit (Sororitas), and an older kit with a new upgrade sprue, I wouldn't be surprised if Nachmund is similar - if so, I bet it'll be the Chaos Marine squad with a new upgrade sprue that is in this set. Happy to be wrong though..!

The only way I see power armored CSM kill teams happening if this is similar to the Chalnath box. Given all the reliable rumors coming out about the upcoming CSM release, it really seems like we'll be getting new cultists, and KT would be a perfect release spot going off the general format seen so far.
Yup, just as I called it. Basic squad with an upgrade sprue. Entirely new minis would've wonderful, but my expectations were already tempered. Hopefully we'll see some amazing Chaos models when the Codex is (finally!!!) announced.

Anyway, if the terrain is good, I'll get this set. Otherwise, I'll just get the book separately off that well known auction site :D and convert specialists from my unbuilt Chaos Marines.

*EDIT* Just seen that it's the Sector Mechanicus stuff, I have some of it but not the bigger pieces; got loads of the pipes though. So it's a maybe to getting the set. Love the Chaos Marine upgrades though! Looking forward to doing these as Legion of Taurus

I think what really convinced me this was gonna be cultists or traitor guard is the same rumor mill that has been pretty spot on for the most part. Just made too much sense. Oh well, that sorcerer in training is well worth it

I mean, they're not bad models or anything but... yeah.

Sort of irritating when it just being an 'upgrade set' means they could've used it to give one of the non-standalone Legions like Night Lords, Iron Warriors, etc an upgrade sprue.

I still think the cultists/Traitor guard rumour will pay off when the Codex comes out - would've liked them to be in this release, but I do like the CSM upgrades for this. Indeed, that Aspiring Sorceror is :tu:

I mean is it a miss though? Most of these upgrade bits feel legion specific without non legion players missing out

There’s enough chain axes with this and the chosen to easier make a world eaters Warband

Night lords got a “flayer” marine

Wordbearers/death guard got a sorcerer adept

Possessed for say black legion

But they could all still pretty much work for any legion, Chaos is so varied it’s really the best of all worlds having a general kit

Ok, I will wait for the stand alone corsairs box.

Generic Chaos marine. They are nice but they do nothing for me. Yeah you can pass them for any legion but it costs them nothing to do some real actual traitor legion. An IW squad or world bearers or anything, just for this release. Oh well...

"Old" terrain. Come on, something chaos or a space (xeno) ship like we saw in the rogue trader box would be much better.

Happy to see someone interested of course, but this is simple, I don't need or want anything in the box expect for the corsairs so I will see them in the future...

Depending on the price, I will probably get this box. I like the options for both sides. Honestly, half tempted to get two, if the price is right. Doing my Black Legion after I finish my Deathguard, and sort of want some of those options! Edited by Marshall Mittens

I was a little surprised to see that they'd kept the Charadon color scheme for the Mechanicus terrain rather than reverting back to the classic Mars look, but then I saw that not only are they using the same battlemap (which wouldn't have fit the Mars colors as well), but also the overall dark grey of the Charadon scheme is either the same exact color as what they're using for the Fronteris hatches and gates or a very close cousin. Meanwhile the main grey of the Fronteris line is still complementary to the main color of the Charadon scheme. So mixing terrain between the Fronteris and Mechanicus ranges using the exhibited paint schemes for both will be a breeze.

I don't know if I'm overestimating what is possible with just one upgrade sprue, but I must say I'm a little disappointed by the CSM team here. I find the additions to the CSM kit unimaginative and within the realm of a pretty decent kitbash.

The team had to be an upgrade sprue, obviously, there was no reason to think it would be less like Chalnath and more like Octarius, but I would've picked Raptors over CSM as the base kit.

If you had told me it was gonna be based on the CSM kit my mind would've been thinking less like "add a chainaxe guy" and more like "spikier versions of Legion Recon Marines". That could be a whole new unit for the Chaos roster for 40k too, call them Corruptors (trademark pending) because they're the guys who set up cults and rituals on worlds before the rest of the warband arrives. You could have so many awesome options in there too, like a sniper but the scope is a daemons eye or something.

Gotta say that I'm not thrilled with the set. The actual upgrade sprue is really cool; the parts look flavourful and offer masses of kitbashing potential. GW have knocked every CSM model they've made in the last 5 years or so out of the park and these are no different. But the base CSM squad is less than 3 years old, and now the price will presumably be inflated with an upgrade sprue that offers options the squad can get nowhere else. I appreciate that there probably weren't a lot of good options for an actual Chaos Space Marine kill team, but I would have preferred to see something like Renegade Guard or a mixture of Cultists/Mutants, that sort of thing, fill the slot for us.

I'd also hoped to see (some of) the new Fronteris terrain in the box, or even Imperialis again, so yet more Sector Mechanicus stuff is a bit of a disappointment.

On the plus side, this does seem to provide a shot in the arm for the validity of those CSM rumours, which contain some very exciting changes for veterans of the long war.
