Surprised to see the Eradicators just appear to have typical heavy bolters rather than some brand new Cawl creation that does the same thing again, and the Land Speeder is also just called a Land Speeder. I think the Intercessors are quite a disappointment though. After them going on about how they were combing the Primaris and classic armour patterns more and the Space Wolf sets that did that quite well, they've gone back more towards Primaris with adding things like the silly knee armour cover to all of them even the classic styled ones.... The thing with Intercessors is that, even IF they're doing mix armors and stuff, it's still a lot of the same. It's not a new unit for the army, so it's not terribly exciting. LemartesTheLost
I just so sorely disappointed in the Van Vets, it's just the same dude with a power sword x5. If the multi part kit doesn't give us options for storm shields, lightning claws, plasma pistols, etc., I'm gonna riot. The Eradicators are fine; I just don't like Gravis. The new Intercessors are also pretty meh, not great, not terrible. I'm probably just going to skip the box and buy the Jump Chappy, Captain, and Ancient separately when I can. Mogger351
So the box doesn't have terrain, it doesn't have the terrain footprints. Crusade soft squatted for a book-keeping free deck, rulebook smaller and softback (although not objectively bad, I suspect it'll be as expensive as the hardback). FOMO fluff books and combat patrol only mentioned in the context of a discount box not a mode. An anaemic half for orks (imo) and a boring half for marines. I'm less than enthused Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387845-grot-week-full-armageddon-box-reveal-on-friday-7pm-bst/page/6/#findComment-6169053 Share on other sites

Ancient The only new models were the vanguard veterans and jump pack chaplain. And they are only new in the sense that they are replacing firstborn models. I am however super pumped about the Orks. None of the starters prior to 8th (or 6th/7th) reinvented the wheel. Tastyfish
Little other things I've noticed from the vids (and stuff they outright mentioned): Rather than some units allowing a second leader attached, that's now keyworded to that type of leader (as a support) Cleave is close combat blast. Monsters tank shock (or crushing impact) now, it's not vehicle exclusive. Blindhamster
Love the vanguard. Intercessors are simple but solid imo. Annoying they come with 1 grenade launcher, considering they can have 2 in a unit and they aren’t exactly easy to come by Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387845-grot-week-full-armageddon-box-reveal-on-friday-7pm-bst/page/6/#findComment-6169064 Share on other sites

The Lost Son
The Orks and the land speeder are definitely swaying me into the box, honourable mention for the Captain too. But the real real selling point is the background book, now the cynical part of me feels that it's split in that manner and exclusive because a few folk in head office realised that the Space Marine half is quite flat which would affect the sales numbers. Unfortunately their trickery is working on me and now I'm going to ask the wife if I can get a big box of toys . Blindhamster
See for me the thing is.. almost every edition had a basic tactical squad, only changing when it was replaced by an intercessor squad of some sort. This is no different, and no.. they’ve never been any more exciting than these. last edition gave up intercessors for the infernus squad that had way less character. These guys are in 10 distinct poses, most not in existence 1:1, they have different details not seen on mkx before. they’re more than fine and anyone saying otherwise just has incredibly rose tinted glasses. the vanguard don’t have hammers and shields, instead they got master crafted swords. I bet the multi part kit comes with hammers and shields.. or more likely.. lightning claws. Their details are solid, on par for the most part with the Sternguard of the previous starter box the eradicators are.. eradicators, nothing more or less, they have some small armour variations too though so that’s alright. Their rules do sound fun. the 4 characters? All really solid, captain is by far the best sword and board captain we have had. Jump chaplain is great, librarian is solid (probably better than the existing one) and the ancient is really nice - campaign specific banner is a solid idea land speeder is an acceptable update of the classic, I like how it’s compact again, and the mountings for the weapons are much more practical than the old tornado or typhoon (which this almost looks like a mashup of) Marshal Reinhard, Robbienw, Ramell and 6 others 2 1 4 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387845-grot-week-full-armageddon-box-reveal-on-friday-7pm-bst/page/6/#findComment-6169072 Share on other sites
Karhedron
I like that have gone back to a compact main rulebook so that we don't have to lug half a ton of tree to every game. I really like the Orky stuff and feel they got the better side of the box. I built a small army with the 2nd edition Orks 30 years ago and am feeling slightly tempted to try it again. The Marine stuff doesn't really excite me. Most of the units are perfectly nice but don't really bring anything new. It's nice to see a proper landspeeder back rather than the bloated stormspeeders and the Libby is a nice call back to the Firstborn plastic one. Heavy bolter Eradicators are fine I guess but don't seem to offer much over Heavy Intercessors. I might wait to see whether the MPK comes with any other weapon options. Some of the subtle stuff was interesting such as CLEAVE acting as a melee version of BLAST. This makes me think that we will be getting the Ork codex first as they seemed to have a couple of new rules mentioned whereas the Marines were all quoted as having their existing abilities. Ammonius
I find lots of things to like on both sides of this box. The Orks are some of the best, and the "Wearing their mask around the chin" Painboy made me chuckle. On the Marine side, I like the Vanguards and the jump Chaplain, and the Eradicators catch my eye, especially if the gun shields are separate/ easily trimmable. My only complaint is how cruciform the Armageddon campaign badge is, but that's fixable too. All in all good stuff! Tastyfish
Also missed the most important bit of info in the review. Kombi shootas are back to being their old separate weapons, either rokkits or lots of shots - no mortal wound business. Be interesting to see if that spreads further... Sir Clausel
For once im not overly hyped by the box. Ill still get it but im in no hurry to paint it up. And im totally fine with that! ThaneOfTas
Losing crusade and it getting replaced with a deck is really not great. Pretty much what I expected when they said that narrative and competitive are the same thing. Competitive players get to go from fighting over circles to fighting over squares, while narrative players lose their already cut down crusade rules and get it replaced with a :cuss:ing deck. Tell me again how a more balanced game is good for everyone? Wispy
GW was like "please forget we did all this slight mixing of armour for Grey Hunters already." Grey Hunters actually have more variety. I don't see any intercessors with straps going to the chest plate. Edit: I was wrong, that was spotted! I love the Eradicators btw. Also the ancients banner I sculpted? Do I have something to freehand on? Nephaston
Grey hunters are also a multipart kit, while these intercessors are push-fit. So unless these get the Termagant treatment we don't know how the actual proper new intercessors look. Blindhamster
There are a few chest variants now: - sergeant has Aquila and studded gorget - grenadier has single skull and gets straps where the vents usually are - grenade launcher guy has skull but with vents - eye targeter guy has Aquila with gorget with groove - auspex guy has imperialis with crossbones - other 5 have standard imperialis I think For legs: - 4 have full length shin instead of separate knees - rest are standard mkx heads: - 2 mk7 - 2 mkX with mk7 style tubes on sides (the stalker boltgun guy and grenade guy) - 1 has mkx full targeter over one eye - 1 has mkx with studs - 3 basic mkx - whatever the sergeants helmet option is Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387845-grot-week-full-armageddon-box-reveal-on-friday-7pm-bst/page/6/#findComment-6169118 Share on other sites

Tell me again how a more balanced game is good for everyone? There's nothing inherent to Crusade that requires then 10th ruleset; it'd probably be tough to backport it into something like 7th or earlier just based on statline changes, but you can pretty easily bring forward the current Crusade stuff into the new edition, probably with a few things you'd need to massage. It does require owning the old books once 11th starts, but probably not too hard to just find the appropriate rules and write em down somewhere. Might actually be the better outcome than them taking a real hatchet to the current Crusade rules and making them worse? Who knows. Having a new option in the Dominatus deck is nice for a quicker, weekend campaign or even event. Had some locals already talking about it for that style, after we get a better look at what it actually is.
