the real crime here is that we havent had any legion specific upgrades for other armour marks after mk6. With FW resin going the way of the dodo it looks less and less likely we will ever get official upgrades.

Get with the times, old man. Horus Heresy is the minimum viable product and you better like it because Warhammer IS BACK and it's BETTER than ever.

They won’t other than transfers or legion specific units I don’t think. 18 factions = 18 extra units as a minimum and 18 mk2,3,4,5,6 upgrade sprues. I doubt they’d even do that for SoH or IF as the marquee sub factions, let alone the rest. They probably wouldn’t even do that for UM in 40k tbh

I think when you look at it from a 40k point of view plastic legion stuff looks unlikely, but when you compare it to the amount of plastic releases stuff like Necromunda gets, I dunno. I think if they weren't going to do it they would have carried on with the resin.

i'm not sure we'll see purely cosmetic legion upgrade sprues, but I expect we will see legion-specific upgrade sprues (or maybe standalone kits) for the legion specific units. Maybe this is queued up at the moment behind getting the rest of the generic units out first, so plastic SoH Reavers can either be an upgrade sprue for a plastic Despoilers kit or maybe just a new unit based on the same CAD file.

Feels like that's a down the road thing. They're just wrapping up a ton of housekeeping, moving the main building blocks to plastic. The backbone of the setting is all there now.

I wonder if they do upgrade sprues or continue to do resin kits. I can't imagine them starting to move Legion specific squads like Firedrakes or Deathsworn move to plastic?

It's funny, I avoided the resin kits for a long time because I thought they would be a nightmare (particularly after all the failcast stuff) but over the last couple of years I got several SoH characters and 10 Justaerin and they were all a breeze. I would have no hesitation getting more forgeworld resin kits (although I haven't dared try any vehicles yet). It seems a big shame to not keep making resin dudes when they were so good, if you can't take over with plastic pretty damn quick.

We do know that GW plastics have a very long development time, I suspect (hope) that HH2's success took them by surprise, they pulled the trigger on even more plastics including the legion specific stuff, and we are just in the long tail between the last of the resin releases and the first of the plastic (legion) releases.

I’ve not had a good experience with their resin vehicles, having built a Spartan, Sicaran and warhound. The small stuff they seem ok with but once you get into the tank territory you’re looking at warps that can be measured with a ruler and mould lines and bubbles that ruin the whole thing unfortunately

*Shakes six fingered Mk IV fist*

You young whippersnappers don't know you're born - I remember the time our legion upgrade kits were different paint schemes you had to apply yourself!

What was I saying? Oh, yes! Go to your room and fiddle with your fancy-pants modern plastics sonny, whilst I put my teeth in, and file these upgrade kit Wolves icons off my new Word Bearer...

For what it's worth, in one of the livestreams they did say legion specific stuff would be in plastic somewhere down the line. Whether that included generic upgrade kits or were just going to be the unique units tho, no clue.

Well that gives me hope and I hope that I’m wrong! Saying that, the rate they do it I’ll be in the year 30k by the time they’re all out

As much as I hope we see some Legion upgrades come soon, I don't hold out too much hope. I think we're more likely to see the units catered for, maybe with bits that can be mixed in to others.

Fortunately there are Legion flavoured stuff out there, Shoulder pads nice and easy and there is other stuff (I do appreciate not 'official' though and could therefore cause issues at GW events) such as weapons.

Although I'm still trying to find some Marine sized NOT Power Axes for Fenrisian Axe stand-ins that I like and happen to be a physical item/licensed as opposed to a file as I've no intention of taking up printing.

I used Warhammer marauder axes for mine that I bought loose on eBay.

How popular were the last similar boxes? Do I have to be on extra alert to preorder this in the second these go live?

This is by far the first box I must have.

Think this one might go quickly. Lots of people love the MKIV.

Hard to say. The Skitarii and Breacher/Cataprachtii boxes didn't fly off the shelves, whereas the MkIII Battle Group went relatively quickly (within the weekend most online spaces but not a 'gone within the hour' quick). Custodes sold out instantly but I wouldn't be surprised if 80% of those were 40k purchases, so I wouldn't put that in the same camp.

Personally I'd err on the side of being alert, since as MatCap says people love MkIV and have been waiting for this one for a while - the last few boxes were more niche. If anything holds it back it'd be the presence of the Sircaran and Contemptor, but if the price is right that probably won't matter much.
