Uploaded Feb 24, 2024 During the past decade, Chris and Jay at Lords of War have watched 3D Printers go from an emerging technology to full-blown engines in the tabletop market, creating new businesses and adding infrastructure to startups and customers across the globe. Like any emerging new medium, it has a lot of sides. How have they adapted to its exponential growth? Welcome back to Inside Tabletop. In this series I talk to people that live and work in Gaming, getting them to share their insights on the business of game entertainment. Check Chris's models and shop out HERE: https://lordsofwargames.com/ If you're a Patron; this episode is also available as an exclusive audio Podcast today as well! I've been a bit lax in keeping up with updates lately , so this one will be a bit of a catch-up. Recently finished are my two squads of striking scorpions from the Kill Team: Salvation box set: I have also made a fair bit of progress on the other half of the box set, the scouts, along with a gladiator lancer, my kit-bashed Phobos Librarian and a 3d printed Eradicator with multi-melta as this was not an option for the easy build squad I have. I have got most of the base colours down as well as the decals on, which have been sealed with some matt varnish. The Maxx Matt varnish from green stuff world is great through an airbrush, making the decals nice and flat. Next up, I liked the idea of doing a custom Tau Stealth Kill Team, so I purchased the STLs for the Ghost Shrimp models from Pipermakes which have a cool cloaking effect on some of the parts. I used translucent resin to try and give the cloaking effect a partially see trough appearance. I did a couple of tests on spare parts, with the idea being to use liquid mask to mask off these areas of the model and then just use a blue contrast paint into the bare resin with white edge highlight to achieve the effect I want on these areas. I'm quite happy with the test results, hopefully this will look good on the finished models. I also added a couple of spare plastic bits to one of the model to differentiate the leader from the rest of the squad. Alongside these I also have the contents of the Kroot hunting pack box set and a Terminator captain, assembled and primed, ready for painting joining the rest of my painting backlog . That's all for now, hopefully have another update shortly.

Success! My termagant sculpts have been printed, and they're delightful! I still need to sculpt some weapons for them, but they work with the plastic gaunt weapons as a stop-gap. This was quite a learning experience, and I hadn't quite appreciated just how...spindly they would be. On the plus side, Elegoo ABS-Like 2.0 is very durable and they don't feel like they're going to break. In hindsight I'll not add quite so many tiny bits in future as they're just so small that they get lost.

Having finally acquired a 3D printer- to be exact an Elegoo Mars 3 Pro- I've been having fun testing it out. I've done three prints so far, the first being the default rook models, followed by a few Tyranid things from MyMiniFactory, including Hive Delta's free Carnifaux body (which is awesome!). However, I was itching to try and print something I'd made myself, so I went a bit mad and sculpted up 5 'niddy beetle wing sets in the span of a few hours. I then printed 4 of them (one was kaiju-sized and would take 7 hours to print!) to test them out. And they worked! The second set down I hadn't appreciated how small I'd scaled them, and for shrikes would need scaling up a bit. Also the bottom-most pair which were intended for rippers (yes, those are actual printed pieces!) are far too tiny for use on game pieces, though I reckon for a display model they could be fun. Anyway, I'm really pleased with how these came out, and I'll definitely be modelling up more bitz for printing. I want to distribute them too, so I may be setting up an MMF store soon...watch this space!

You may be aware that I have a keen interest in 3D printing. I still don't have a printer yet (intend to get a Mars 3 Pro) but I thought I might as well make a head start on some things to print when I do. My initial projects have been a bit all over the place. For instance I dove in at the deep end and tried modelling up an entire Hierophant... I later dialed things back a little and started work on a modular goblin kit (which will include 40K gretchin parts)... However, a minor setback from a Blender crash wiping out my work on hats for them got me sufficiently annoyed I decided to take a break from those and instead focus on something else. And thanks to the suggestion of Discord friends that something else turned out to be a Mk.1/Deimos pattern Rhino! Mostly aiming for the shape of the original but with more modern (but not excessive) levels of detail. Will possibly have options for an interior too! Was originally going to give it Matilda II inspired tracks but difficulties with modelling and worries I was overcomplicating the design made me go for much simpler "spiked cleats" instead. Might do some alt tracks though... Unlike the old kit, this has actual full wheels. May do alternate wheels too, for now it has some nice heavy-duty spoked wheels. Doesn't have a full track loop or drive sprockets/idlers as those would not be visible. Also has (non-workable obviously) Christie-style suspension! I'm planning on having 3 different cupola attachments to allow for the same parts to be used for three sizes; "Retro" (same size as the old RT model), "Modern" (same size as the current Rhino), and "Truescale" (not actually true scaled as that would be huge, but a bit bigger than the current one!). It's been a real learning experience and I feel I've gained a lot of knowledge from doing this. If you're a 3D guy I'd highly recommend stepping outside of your comfort zone; mine was irregular organic sculpts and I feel I've massively improved by doing this.

Hey guys, does anyone know of any patreons or sites that have MKII armour legs or torso STLs? I'm looking to revamp my truescale World Eater army and I'm testing a few routes such as using Red Butcher Torsos, basic Tartaros terminators, Tortuga Bay minis etc. I'm probably gonna buy a 3D printer soon so just inquiring if there are any MKII truescale STLs around. I've seen MKIII, IV and even V but strangely the most beloved heresy armour is missing...

So I really want to get some custom Storm Shields for my upcoming builds with Vanguard Vets. My issue is I have zero 3d modeling experience, and I want to get something printed up on a site like Shapeways. My questions for you all is as follows: 1) Have you seen anyone on a 40k site offering to do commission/custom 3d modeling? I have seen it with Decals on our own site here, and I figure with the abundance of Shapeways shoulder pads, finding someone who is willing to do this shouldn't be too hard. Furthermore, if you know of multiple folks that are doing it, do you have one you would recommend? 2) My crappy paint mockup is below, I have two different designs in mind. I want a shield that is sleek, with minimal ornamentation, but uses the RG symbol as the overall shape and style. I also want the shield to have a lot of hard angles to convey that "stealth" feel. Minimalistic and modern. (Some examples include the F-117A Nighthawk fighter, and meshed with the Corax/Dark Fury aesthetic that Forgeworld has put out recently). If you have any feedback on the designs below, I would love to hear it!
