Wut? Welp, this arrived today, so I guess it's time I got round to making this thread: You're mad, IHF doesn't do models - what have you done with them? I'll concede the first point, this is dumb even for me. Since B@C's release I'd planned on getting in on the plastic heresy action, and with rumours of vanishing stock, I finally got the push I needed to actually go and buy it. I'm not going to pretend that this is the start of a crazy-fast painting spree that will end in a full army after a couple of months - I'm bad at finishing projects, painting fast or painting large numbers of models at once - plus I love obsessively converting every model & painting totally unnecessary freehand details, none of which is conducive to successfully collecting an army. Instead: baby steps - stupidly ambitious plans, but sub-divided in to teeny, tiny baby steps. What's a 'Brannsar'? Clan Brannsar is my homebrew Clan for the Iron Hands Legion (very WIP Liber Astartes thread: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316214-clan-brannsar-of-the-xth-legion/ ) - Brannsar is Norwegian for 'burn' because I am absolutely awful at coming up with names for stuff. There's a dark corner of my brain which whispers about plans to expand this into Shattered Legions Sallies, Raven Guard & Imperial Fists, plus Solar Auxilia, Mechanicum, Imperialis Militia, Titan Legio & Knights but that's crazy talk. Show me an army list, I have to see an army list The way I'll be constructing this army is slightly unusual - for me, fluff is everything so how I'll proceed is to plan multiple 'detachments' (each based around a small formation within the Clan) which can be combined to form a functional (albeit likely noncompetitive) army list representing a portion of the Clan's 4th Order. If that's a little tricky, here's an example of a 'detachment': Zone mortalis / siege assault infantry Phalanx: here a Phalanx constitutes a third of a full company, so it might contain: 1x 10 Cataphractii Termies, 2x 10 Breachers, 3x Graviton Rapiers, 1x Contemptor (possibly in addition to enough Anvilus / Kharybdis Assault Claws to carry them all) The first detachment I'll be working on is the titular Seeker-Killer Cohort Ultor - a mechanized anti-infantry division mainly equipped with MkIV plate due to its mobility & enhanced sensor suite, for which B@C will form the core. The end goal for Ultor's organisation is as follows: HQ: Praevian Consul Centurion + 3 Vorax Battle Automata Elites: Techmarine Troops: 10 Tacticals with Rhino 10 Tacticals with Rhino 10 Support marines with Rhino (these will probably double for a heavy support squad too) Fast Attack: 10 Seekers with Rhino Heavy Support: 3 Predator Executioners Land Raider Phobos (MkIIb) Victory is Vengeance Anyhow, back to the baby steps - I'm gonna start off Ultor by first making a ViV Extermination warband based off the formation's constituents, so the first models to be attempted will be: * Praevian Consul * Techmarine * 5 Tacticals * 5 Seekers * 2 Vorax This might change a bit, but expect it to remain within the framework of Ultor's larger organisation as set out above. ...This is an opening post without any actual pictures of models, isn't it? Guilty I've got loads of stuff to set up before I really crack on with this, so I wouldn't hold your breath for any actual painting within the next month (apart from painting all the bare heads in B@C because I want to experiment with skin-tones / circuitry tattoos), but I'll probably be doing a load of converting, so expect plenty of grey. Anyhow, thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy this new project of mine

Shattered Legions By Shadrak Meduson So I started this shattered legion project around the start of March 2020, I was mainly just getting parts and kits ready before that. Now I'm about 2k into the army fully painted, and going for another 2k. So here's my work so far, not all but most. I also have a Terrax Pattern Assault Drill in Iron Hands colours, and a Raven Guard Fire Raptor. But I have still to take some proper photos of them, same goes for my characters. At the end of 2018 a group of us got together to plan a narrative Horus Heresy campaign. The result was the Harrowing of Harthsgard, a series of ten games that told the story of the invasion of the Harthsgard system by the forces of the Warmaster and its steadfast defence by those who remain loyal. In the campaign we tried to cover as many modes of play as possible, including Zone Mortalis ship boarding operations, Planetstrike orbital assaults, Games Master controlled narrative games, multi-level Centurion Mode scenarios, mass armoured breakthroughs and my personal favourite, all out apocalyptic warfare. We’ve had an incredible year playing through these scenarios. As we progressed through the story, we documented the events that occurred so that we would have a memento to remember the campaign by. The result is the book linked below. It contains the background for the campaign, battle reports for all ten games and also the rules pack. As a taster I’ve added some screenshots from the book below. We hope you enjoy. If any of you recreate any of the scenarios in your own gaming group the do let us know how it goes. EDIT: Up to date background log: The Unmakers: Clan Brannsar Background Article (WIP) Up to date miniatures log: The Unmakers: Clan Brannsar Miniatures Log At the urging of our very own esteemed Urza, here's all the [current] content for my HH DIY Clan [note: to see what the feth I'm talking about when it comes to Golem Heavy Assault Squads, go here] At some point I'll be making a new thread detailing all we know form FW's stuff on the 10th Legion's organisation, and detailing my own system for organising Brannsar [although this would likely vary between Clans, each being effectively a pocket-Legion] on the off chance anyone [other than Urza :P ] wanted to have a template they could base their own system off]. Brannsar's stuff is regularly updated, so expect much, much more

How to you view Ferrus Manus and his personality? I was reading the thread about Ferrus's eyes and general portrayal complaints (most of which I agree with), and thought this would be an interesting discussion topic. I really like hearing other people's perspectives on the characters in the 40k lore, because we all interpret it a little differently. So, what do you imagine Ferrus to be like? Does your army view him the same way? For sake of generating interest, here's a bit of my opinion: We know that so many of the Primarchs harbored secret fears and doubts, and I think Ferrus was actually very similar to Fulgrim in this sense, plagued by a fear of inadequacy, and a growing obsession with bettering himself. Obviously different personalities meant different approaches: Fulgrim needing to be good at everything by doing everything, Ferrus needing to be the best by stripping away anything that would weaken him, but both fueled by a sense of being an "innate" failure. (It's a pretty common psychological trait in perfectionists, ofc.) I view him not as hating things that were "frivolous", and maybe even really liking art and such, but chose to reject them anyway due to their lack of practicality - and Emperor forbid if we make a slip. This would be why he and Fulgrim got along so well, of course, and why he got along well with someone who, on the surface, he should dislike. Fulgrim regularly showed him the practical value and application of things Ferrus dismissed, which I think writers have shown (more or less). Why wear fancy-pants armor? Because troops need pride and inspiration. For example. I liked the Nemurial Scrolls concept (though I too despise the overused "hoist by own bionic pertard" trope) because it was similar to my own view, and also that it showed he wasn't as cold and harsh as he carried himself and was genuinely concerned for his Legion and his brothers. One could argue that they sort of....approached this idea in Feat of Iron, I also like the idea they've touched on with a lot of the Primarchs, that each was hiding some Problem in themselves and their Legion but was putting it off instead of dealing with it. As for the Iron Hands himself, I always got the impression that, beyond strict adherence to his rules, Ferrus let them play whatever stupid squabble games they wanted to do and stayed out of it, because he felt the struggle made them stronger in the end - they weeded themselves out. And that this was general Medusan culture - that they survived harsh conditions by being dogged (and relying on their own technological creations). What I mean is, Ferrus figured that B.S. had a way of weeding itself out if one stayed focused. But, of course, this wasn't happening, and new problems started presenting themselves in the legion prior the Heresy, which surely he knew about, whether or not he blamed the "reliance on technology" or rejection of humanity or whatever. I'd actually presume he would more likely have blamed himself: failure to lead, being to soft, something he was at fault for. Like his metal arms that were something out of his control, he would blame himself for outside problems. Maybe for not being able to control everything? I also imagine him to actually be a really funny guy, in a Laconic way, which they give snippets of in some stories but I don't think they show enough. He was the Sparta to Fulgrim's Attic salt, of course. (I also don't think he was so darn mad all the time, just a grump who was quick to point out malarkey.) I liked that Iron Hands character that made dry jokes in machine voice, and people weren't sure he was joking. (I forget what his name was.) (For the Tabletop, though, I like my armies obsessive and hypocritical, because I think it's funny, but that wouldn't have been true in the year 30K.) I didn't mean to write an essay, sorry. Share your thoughts! (New to the forum but not in the game, so, hello!)

This is something of a rolling thread showing off not only my Iron Hands Successors, but my heresy-era Iron Hands from Clan Company Vurgaan. Honestly, this is a bit spontaneous and IH exclusive, and very broad in what I'm covering. So I thought this thread would be better placed in the IH Sub-forum than anywhere else. But it's WIP-ish, so I'm not sure if it truly belongs here or not. I'm sure the wiser Frater here will tell me otherwise! But, here's some pictures and some blurb about what I have for my Iron Hands Successors, the Stone Drakes: Tactical Squad http://i.imgur.com/JXyvpcT.jpg http://i.imgur.com/39nZG1w.jpg http://i.imgur.com/GKgXCLT.jpg They were a test bed for this colour scheme I devised for them, and it came out better than I expected. The plasma coils need a change though. And here is the burgeoning beginnings of my Clan Vurgaan force. These are a mix of paint-tested Iron Warriors who are undergoing 'Redemption Protocols' in dettol soon, alongside some former Sons of horus. Not pictured: The other 10 Tactical Marines, Apothecary and Shield/hammer champion undergoing 'Redemption Protocols'. http://i.imgur.com/MCb861n.jpg On top of this, a large order of Iron Hands is heading my way from Forge World. Hopefully this should be an interesting combined project, since in my head, these two forces are closely tied together.

just read the book Fulgrim form the Horus Heresy series. I bought it beacuse of the strong role of Iron Hands in it. My vote? 5/10. Weak Points: The plot is very simple. Fulgrim and his legion enter in a temple dedicated to Slaanesh and from that point on they are damned. Easy. No librarians around, no one able to see such evident contamination in all the Fleet Expeditions. Fulgrim has nothing better to do that take an alien sword (which casually is possessed by a daemon). The characters' personality is the worst about the book. One dimension. They betray so easily you wonder how they could ever be loyal to the Emperor. There is not a real character transformation, a thing such "psychology" is out. The Iron Hands are the side characters, and they are second in all. In every scene they have to look dumber than Emperor Children. The worst is when the IH are hunting a human "enemy" fleet and never had the thought to search for their supply lines. Fulgrim needs to tell them (!!!). Ferrus Manus is depicted very much like Angron: reacting with pure rage every smallest thing around and schizophrenically calm down the moment after, if someone say something to distract him. The book loose a lot of chapters describing less important events and side characters and then hurry up in the last chapters to catch the most relevant and important events. The worst is the conversion of Fulgrim to Horus' cause: one page and a half (p.346-347) in a book of 510 pages. Horus: "the emperor betrayed us" Fulgrim: "what?" H: "We fought and he is the one who takes all the glory" F: "noo..." H:"we risk to loose all we fought for" Daemon in the alien sword: "join him" F:"ok ,I'll join you" . Wow, you do not really need to write a book about it. Wasn't the fall the Emperors' Children the most drammatic of all? The perfect Horus' oratory skills result? Not in this book. Good Points about the book: -you receive some extra information about the Iron Hands, especially about the Primarch' body guard, the Morlocks. -The final battle on Istvaan V is really epic. -The final corruption of the Emperor Children to Slaanesh is very well depicted. It is also very nice the story of the creation of noise marines. -nice reference to "the Picture of Dorian Grey" throughout all the book. If you ever read the book, skip the first half of the book (where loyalists turn to chaos) and go directly where chaos is chaos, that part is very well done. Iron Hands are portrayed as in the cover: http://media.moddb.com/images/groups/1/3/2...errus_Manus.jpg Very lower level (in everything but loyalty) to the Emperor Children.

From an Advanced Review here: http://www.thebolthole.org/forum/viewtopic...f=35&t=1894 If true then this certainly throws the Iron Hands culture into a new perspective.

Hey everyone! Found this article on Black Library that covers the range of Iron Hands books up until 2018. Pretty good list if you're getting into Iron Hands and want some books to learn the lore and history of the Iron Hands. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/05/02/the-flesh-is-weak-iron-hands-in-black-librarygw-homepage-post-4/

I'm trying to compile a chronology of Iron Hands stories. I know not all may not have direct references to each other, and I may be missing a few tales in this list. I began using main characters or limited appearances of them to go by. I would appreciate any input offered. Primarch Ferrus Manus: Feat of Iron -> Promethean Sun (Salamanders) -> Fulgrim Shadrak Meduson: Feat of Iron -> Meduson -> Hand Elect -> Grey Talon -> The Either Bion Henricos: Feat of Iron -> Scars -> Grey Talon (Iron Hands + White Scars) -> Little Horus Durun Atticus: Veritas Ferrum -> The Damnation of Pythos (Captains Plienus, Sabinus, & Khalybus appear briefly in a hololith conference with Atticus) Khalybus: The Noose (Iron Hands + Raven Guard) Kratoz: Deeds Endure (Iron Hands + Salamanders) Ishmal Sulnar: Unforged (Salamanders) -> Unspoken (Salamanders + Iron Hands) Crius: Riven -> Keys of Hel

Hello everybody, Lately , I've been contemplating on doing a small Iron Hands force and then I remembered something; I seem to recall that in some book set in the 40k-era, there is a unit of TDA equipped, silent bodyguards for officials of the Iron Hands chapter or perhaps just for select Iron Fathers. I also recall that apparently they had little heraldry and there was some speculation on them being reanimated via the Keys of Hel. I don't quite recall what they were called, I think the title started with Hel/Hell or something like that. Kardan Stronos himself is apparently unnerved by them. Does anyone recall something like that? Do you maybe have the exact name, or maybe even the book(s) they are featured in?

Did Ferrus know that the emperor did not view him as a son, but as a tool of war? I'm just curious because Guilliman seemed to be kind of devastated when he realized this. "Rest? We were not made to rest; we go on, unflinching, unstoppable, unending in our strength. The Emperor did not make us for such mortal concerns as hearth and home, vanity or contemplation; we are his engines of war, his hammers, beating out the fabric of existence into a vessel fit for Mankind to inhabit." — Ferrus Manus, as quoted in Shadow of the Gorgon by the Remembrancer Czel Atternus

Hello, as I've been considering a smaller, fluffy IH detachment as addition to my AdMech (and contrast to my clean-and-reasonable Raptors), I'd prefer to just run the FW models - Gorgon terminators, Immortals, Iron Father and maybe some Mk3 guys and FW vehicles. Of the usual marine models, I've had 4 different army projects already (including IH back in 5th edition), it does become a bit uneventful. Now for the core question - how do I make these guys most useful/fitting while not straying too far from the mentioned kits? -Immortals can't be fielded as tacs, the shields make no sense. But, adding combi-bolters, they would be fitting DW veterans. The Mk3 squad would fit as regular tacs, but that's quite useless/uninspiring ingame - I have several companies worth of random PA dudes already -Gorgons have power axes, meaning I'd either play them as DW, or have to get the less awesome looking powerfists to run them as regular terminators. Points cost is slightly higher for the regular terminators, but what power they gain in CC they lose in ranged - a shame, considering SIA and beta bolter rule on terminators -Iron Father works either way as terminator captain, FW vehicles have been FAQed into DW too Considering the DW veterans can include single terminators that make them fearless, this fits perfectly the practice of handing out terminator armour to veteran sergeants in order to inspire the squad. No idea if GW has retconned it (like so many details from back in the day), but it would surely look great. Ingame, DW does not have the FnP (or techmarines), but at least the SIA is a great way to have a wall of advancing iron that just guns down anything in its way, instead of just mowing down a bit of chaff and not much else. Transports can be ignored by the DW teleport strat (for veterans), and the clavis strat even mirrors the dataspike from AdMech, which fits the theme too. Not to forget - teleporting dreads, in case TDA is not enough. Any ideas or comments? I'd have no issues building these guys just for fun (and see if I can do better than back in the day), but if they prove playable I might expand this further.

Just curious if any other chapters view their own primarch with disapproval like the Iron Hands do. Anyone know? After reading the Wiki on Iron Hands I got the impression that the Iron Hands view Ferrus Manus as an example not to follow. That they feel he let his emotions get the better of him and that is why he died. So they have gone full-tilt into analytical and logical thinking. It is a really interesting view as the Iron Hands had to cope with not only losing their Primarch but realizing that the idols they held dear were fallible. Not just from their own primarch letting his emotions cause his dead but also the other primarchs and their fall to chaos. It makes me wonder how the Iron Hands reacted to Guilliman coming back. The Blood Angels revere him as seen in Devastation of Baal. But I think the Iron Hands would be kind of stand-offish. I think they would accept the primaris upgrades willingly as it would be logical to accept a better system to craft their warriors with even if it was going to be replaced with metal. But it makes me wonder. Anyone know of any canon that covers this?

Found this nugget on Reddit. It was posted by irregularjoe150. Click HERE for the source. This does have some spoilers in it. Anyway, hope you enjoyed it! I know I did. I think it is quite a good summing up of the Iron Hands and think this could be really good for incoming Iron Hands players to read through to help them understand the chapter. Still just one view though. There is a lot more information now in the codex as this was posted over a year ago and prior to the supplement drop. Edit: Fixed the spoiler tag lol!

Hail Sons of the Gorgon, I am researching the legends and tales of the Iron Hands and compiling a list of future purchases for my own archives. I thought it may be of interest to others seeking lore regarding the chapter. If anyone can share any published stories, eBooks etc. which I have missed, please comment below and I will add the entry into the list. As best as I could, I separated them between the Horus Heresy and the later 40,000 era. Without knowing the stories, I couldn't begin to guess at a chronological order, so alphabetical seemed the wisest method. Using the Black Library, here is the list so far. https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Iron-Hands-Legion-Contemptor-Dreadnought#share Oh yes. Hopefully the mould is repaired or improved sufficiently. I bought mine right before they were discontinued, and the little raised edges had lots of issues and the legs had huge mould break problems (the sockets for the feet had lots of resin where there shouldn’t be) which I suspect is the reason it was discontinued to begin with. I just pre-ordered one myself along with a c-beam. I’m glad I didn’t buy a standard Contemptor chassis in the meantime as I was holding out for this possibility! I also like to think this is entirely due to my kindly worded email over a year ago :P
