With the release of Arks of Omen and increased flexibility in building army lists using Elites and no Troops if needed, I thought it time we recisted the concept of an all 1st Company Space Marine list. Days gone past this usually worked as an excuse for players to take Terminators and little else, but I think with the amount of other units we can mix into the list we have some flexibility to be fairly competitive in light of the superior Terminator lists of the Dark Angels. So before we go onto that part of the discussion, I suppose we should start with what constitutes a valid 1st Company Ultramarine choice. In my mind, primarily it's as follows from the Codex: Firstborn HQ • Captains of all types (we should concentrate on Terminator Captains for theme, though it's possible he could have brought his choppper along) • Chaplains (again, let's concentrate on Terminators but we have flexibility) • Librarians (again, whack them in Terminator Armour where we can) • Lieutenant ELITES • Apothecary • Ancient in Terminator Armour • Company Champion • Venerable Dreadnought • Relic Terminator squad • Terminator squad • Terminator Assault squad • Sternguard Veterans • Vanguard Veterans • Contemptor Dreadnought • Tyrannic War Veterans • Company Veterans HEAVY SUPPORT • Land Raider • Land Raider Crusader • Land Raider Redeemer DEDICATED TRANSPORT • Rhino • Razorback • Drop Pod HONOURABLE MENTIONS • Honour Guard • Chapter Champion • Chapter Ancient • Chaplain Cassius • Captain Sicarius Note I deliberately missed out the Company Ancient because we have access to a more thematic representative in the Terminator Ancient. Likewise, I missed out the Dreadnought and Ironclad because the Venerable and Contemptor Dreadnoughts exist and are more suited to the theme. The Honourable Mentions are Chapter Command and not strictly speaking 1st Company, but secondment goes hand in hand just like a Librarian so I wouldn't consider them to be out of character or theme. Note Sicarius is now the commander of the Victrix Guard, so can join the 1st Company in much the same way as other characters. Primaris HQ • Primaris Captains (Tacticus armour and NOT Phobos armour! The theme's not 10 Company!) • Primaris Captain in Gravis armour • Primaris Chaplain (he could use the bike) • Primaris Lieutenant • Primaris Librarian ELITES • Bladeguard Ancient • Bladeguard Veterans • Primaris Apothecary • Veteran Intercessor squad • Redemptor Dreadnought HEAVY SUPPORT • Repulsor • Repulsor Executioner DEDICATED TRANSPORT • Impulsor HONOURABLE MENTIONS • Marneus Calgar • Chief Librarian Tigurius • Victrix Guard • Judiciar As with Firstborn, the more thematic choices such as Bladeguard Anciet trumps the ordinary Primaris Ancient, but if you really want to, go there but you should have a decent theme in mind. Hopefully that's nice and easy to read and choose from. Competitively speaking, I think all Primaris 1st Company will be notably weaker than a standard Marine list, as you just can't build enough squads with the rule of three and you are severely limited in choices. Aside from, that build what makes you happy. Oh yeah, plus we can add Guilliman More to follow.

Hi, newbie here. Been playing 40k for a while and starting HH, honestly with the mindset of the good old guard infantry horde platoons from 6th. Not planning to go to any tournaments, just for playing with friend semi-competitive. My vision for the army thanks to how Ultramar pattern works is a Napoleonic line force (rifle sections) supported by cannons (rapier batteries) with mechanised command and thunderbolts mainly for variety, but i've always been a fan of just fielding bodies en mass. I don't have any real 'plan' for the army, sprint in the first turn and then slow implacable march is my current theory but I have two main questions about the list I guess, first does it cover enough of the bases, i've no idea what an average amount of enemy tanks looks like or how most HH lists are built? Second I do want it to be enjoyable, so is there anything i'm using that strikes you as excessive or unfair? Thanks. Hello! New to the forum new to HH, so I've come the questions and a list offering. Me and my mates are fairly competitive, but we don't want to run skew or make lists that are inadvertently busted because we haven't noticed how some rules work in practice. I'm trying to make a melee focused army work for me with DA and the Unbroken Vow RoW. The plan is: Inner Circle Knights are my Dreadnought hunters, Praetor and and his companions are infantry killers, and my Interemptors are terminator hunters. The core are my Tartaros Terminators supported by an Apothecary and Centurion Herald, my glorious and "immovable" objective takers. Dreadnoughts are fire support/anti-air and Sabres are my anti-tank. So what do we think? My lack of line worries me, especially taking a HQ slot per squad to make a unit line. Update to the plan of action: Deep strike a ball of independent Characters (IC's) and their retinue where they can do the most damage. Tactical Marines drive up to objectives with Apocatheries in tow. Dread's are my ranged anti-tank. Inner Circle Knights are my anti-Dred/melee anti-tank. Tactical Support Squad are my terminator killers. Dreadwing Interemptors are there to drive up to scary stuff and make it go away with their plasma Burners. I feel confident in this list, it should be a good time for myself and my opponents. Thanks for your continued suggestions :) 1st Edits: - Apocatheries are gone - Centurion Heralds are now in Tartaros armour - Inner Circle Knights have a Spartan - Sabres are also gone 2nd Edits: - Tartaros squads have 2x power axes (Sgt and a squaddie) - 2x Inner Circle Knights (one with hammers one with swords) w/ a Proteus Carrier each - Centurion Heralds in artificer return -Dreadwing Interemptors condensed into one large squad w/ Rhino - Praetor given archeotech pistol 3rd Edits: - Tartaros squads replaced with 10 man veteran squads w/ rhino transport and power swords & axes - Removed sword Inner Circle Knights and made reaming Inner Circle Knights Hunter of Beasts Order Ironwing - Sabres with Neutron Blasters return - 2x Sicarans added - Dreadnoughts removed - Dreadwing Interemptors split into two squads again - Apothecaries for veteran line units return plus Warhawk jumppack Apothecary for Deathwing detachment - Minor-Combi Weapons no longer volkite, now grenade launcher - Veteran Sgt & squaddie have power axes Note: Unsure getting rid of the Dreadnoughts for tanks, thoughts on this in particular most welcome 4th Edits: - Veterans are gone, 3 tactical squads replace them (It's sad I know but the DA RoW not giving at least 2 units line is too costly an obstacle. Tactical Marines it is. - Centurions Heralds replaced with a warmonger (to assault immediately after deep striking) and the Chaplin. RoW really benefits IC's with Deathwing so making a small blob of doom is good. - Sabres are gone AGAIN! Replaced by a 10 man tactical support squad with Plasma Repeaters - Learned that Apothecary can't join the Deathwing Companion detachment, he has been downgraded and given a tactical squad to baby sit - Deathwing Companion reduced to minimum size - Dreadnoughts return 2x with Gravis Lascannons, Gravis Power Fists and Plasma Blasters Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for helping me puzzle this out. Who knows if this will be the last iteration before I'm satisfied that enough possibilities are covered. Always glad to recieve your messages and suggestions for improvements. Taking some of my shiny new destroyers out on a 1300pt game tomorrow afternoon, and I realized that I know nothing about playing against Black Legion, and my last game against CSM was against a NLs player back before they got their codex... I have a draft list here, hoping y'all can lend a Phaeron a hand if you either play Black Legion or have played against it recently. Opponent is bringing Armless Abby, so I don't know if the voidreaper can manage Abby's wound mitigation or if I need to swap in Szarekh for some heftier punch. CCB w/ warscythe, voidreaper relic, and resorb -- 180 technomancer w/ cloak (thankfully free now!) -- 70 chronomancer w/ cryptogeometric adjuster to make up points--85 cryptothralls--40 1x20 warriors -- 260 1x18 warriors -- 234 immortals with either weapon--80 6 scarabs -- 90 lychguard w/ swordnboard -- 125 3 lokhust destroyers w/ a gauss destructor--125 total 1289 pts I play the Mephrit dynasty, and the CCB will be rocking either merciless tyrant or enduring will. (Probably enduring will to make sure he makes contact, we'll see). edit to add, 1300pt game, as that’s the size of the opponents entire collection I think.

As per the title, do you have any rules of thumb when list building? From skimming forums there seems to be a number of either new or returning players (my self included!) and I know that I would appreciate some guidance about how many line units or anti-tank units I should be bringing in a 2k force, and suspect it would also help others too! So, do you have any rough rules that you follow for how many of each type of unit (e.g. Anti-Tank or Line) you run per 500 or 1000 points - or do you always build with a certain number of each type of unit no matter the point level? Thanks in advance, Slick Samos

How to make a Grey Knights list (my first YouTube video!)
Icosiel posted a topic in + GREY KNIGHTS +
Hello, my fellow Sons of Titans! Today I took a leap into the digital seas of Warhammer video creation. My first video is just a simple breakdown of my thought process when I sit down to make a Grey Knights lists. My channel is going to focus on hobbying and filmed battle reports. I would love if my battle-brothers on B&C would check me out! Thanks! -
Another thing I thought would be using a Brigade. In my last 3-4 games this is what I've been using for the detachment... in part because it's nice to have an army that can actually do this now! But as games go on I realize my list building is super static, meaning I have no wiggle room once I fill mandatory slots (with often the cheapest items I can) it leaves just enough points in a 2K game for stuff like Kastelans, and a flood of Vanguard/Rangers. Do you guys think this is worth it for 12 CP's? Or do you think it's too restrictive in requirements to build the list you like to use?

Chapter 1: Dark Elves in Space Greetings, fellow slavers. I'm Ancient Terror, resident... ancient terror. Nice to meet you. That... didn't flow as well as I'd hoped. I have wanted to complete a Dark Eldar army since their 5th edition revamp. But before I got so far as to paint more than a test model or two, a number of life circumstances led to me quitting the hobby, getting rid of all my hobby things in the process (why, past self, whyyyy?) and forgetting about 40k for a few years. I've been back at it since last summer, but since I just had a daughter last March and my financial situation hasn't been the best, I've been quite busy. Things are looking up now, so I'm dedicating more time (and money) to 40k again. This weekend I'm finally ready to restart my dream project. I've got a Start Collecting! Dark Eldar box arriving at my local store, and my fingers are already tingling with anticipation.* *Or dehydration The fluff for my army isn't that well sorted yet. I have some vague ideas, but I'm still working on them. Hence the thread title. What I do know to a fairly precise degree is how I want my army to look, and what sorts of units I want in it. I could also use some help with some list building, but more on that later. The Evil Space Fae Aesthetic The thing I love about the Eldar is the supremely otherworldly quality of their design. The elegant, segmented armour; the clean, vibrant colours; the eerie witchlight; the badass runes. The thing I love about the Dark Eldar is that it's all this, but dark, depraved and full of spikes. My working plan for a colour scheme, which may not survive contact with a test model: I'll paint the armour and hulls black, starting with something like P3 Coal Black or Citadel Dark Reaper, and working up to a bluish grey highlight tone. The main secondary colour will be dark green, used for things like cloth, sails and flags. Together, I want these two colours to look clean and sharp - getting at the crispy part of the Eldar aesthetic, as well as the sinister aspect of the Dark Eldar. Black and green are quite boring on their own, though. For spot colours, I'll use purple or violet for things like eye lenses, ammo canisters etc., to produce that eerie glow I was talking about earlier. This gets to the vibrancy and the creepy witchlight part of the Eldar; a sort of eerie-but-also-shiny feel. I'll also use crimson red as a secondary spot colour, but more sparingly. The intent is to use red to paint Drukhari runes on armour segments and vehicle hulls in freehand, and to draw the eye to small details here and there. I may also use it to trim or highlight some parts of the armour to break the monotony of the black a bit. This will do for the runes and whatnot. Finally, I'll use gold and gunmetal for bling, spikes and the like. I'll get around to posting a test model ASAP once I've gotten a few of my guys assembled. This may also turn out to take 3 months or something. List Building Plz help I don't know what I'm doing The sort of army theme I want to run can be best summarized as: lots of skimmers, lots of dakka, lots of flyers, very few non-Kabalites. I'm not exactly sure how to make this into an effective list, as being out of the hobby since 5th edition means I'm probably even more clueless than everyone else. My working concept for 2000 points is to spend a little over half the points on Raiders, Venoms, Ravagers and Flyers, with the rest taken up by Kabalites and Reavers, maybe with some mercenary units mixed in for fun. The main bulk of the army would thus look something like this (for example): 2 raiders w/dark lances... 220 pts 2 Venoms... 160 pts Ravager w/dark lances... 155 pts Ravager w/disintegrator cannons... 185 pts 2 Razorwing Jetfighters w/dark lances... 310 pts 1 Voidraven w/dark scythes and voidraven missiles 196 pts --- I'm planning to add some warriors and maybe some trueborn, though in which exact loadouts I haven't found out yet. Some Reavers will definitely feature, then I'm torn between Scourges and Mandrakes. Any suggestions for what to go with for infantry and support? Weaknesses aside from "needs bodies" to plug in this sort of list? I wouldn't be averse to taking a unit or two for close combat, but I want this list to be primarily dakka. I'm willing to be flexible on the distribution of transports and gunboats, though I do want to keep the total number quite high. Any and all help will be repaid in slaves and invitations to realspace raids later (or possibly with murderous backstabbing... such is life).

heysa All, Kinda new to this, but looking for a procrastination project for my growing admech force. Thinking of doing a drukhari army, but would love to mix in some craftworld, is this still possible? .. Will it "just" cost 3 cp to include it? Or will I loose some rules if my army is not pure drukhari or pure craftworld, or is that only space marines that, and their doctrines. Is it even viable to run mixed Aeldari? .. even at lower points levels, like 1000 points? .. thanks all :)
