I have never read any of the GW books- are the 40K ones good?

 

There is a lot of great novels.

 

A lot of the Horus Heresy been brillaint.  From First Heretic, Know no Fear, Angels Extermantius, Unrememeber Empire just to name a few from the serise.

 

40k wise.  Storm of Iron has always been a story I went back time & again for more idea toward my Iron Warriors, along with the rest of the Iron Warriors serise.  Then the Ultramarine side of things with Uriel & the 4th Company.

Space Wolves omnibus has also been great & again a scoruce of idea while I was collecting my Space Wolves force.  Same with Chris Battle for the Fang & his novel on the Iron Hands.

 

There also Aaron three novels on the Night Lords & Talos.  Also the Black Templars story he writen while they battle it out on Armaggeddon (sp?).

 

While recently I finish Pandorax which I really enjoy.  Would have like to seen more on the Chaos Marines side of things, bit still a good novel in my view.

 

It worth pick up novels from Black Library.  I know I'll always get some great idea toward conversion or while I'm collecting a army.  I've commented on a few times when posting up a model that I got a idea from reading say Angels Extermaitus or Storm of Iron.  Also the Audio are pretty good as well, I listen to them a lot while painting or on my Ipod while traveling.

Call of Chaos update

 

Mange to get a bit of free time today to get some conversion work done for First Claw, along with building some Heresy era Iron Warriors.  As said I'm building this unit to take part in a few Kill team games that been happen recently.  There still a bit to go before there ready for painting & then battle it out

I just built Talos & Uzas a few moment ago.  While Cyrion & Mercutian where re-base.  For First Claw I want to try out the new Agrellan Earth paint after seen one of my friends use this on there brand new Son's of Horus army & also from seen the video by Games Workshop.
 

I just got Xarl to convert, so I should hopeful be place a order for the Seth model to use the chainsword weapon.

Also I shown Variel.  I'm unsure about the blue armour I went for.  I'm wanting to try go something a bit more like Games Workshop army painter Steve Bowerman own Night Lord army seen in last year White Dwarf when 6th ed was just release & on the 50 second mark of the video on the Games workshop web site

So hoping to have the unit fully painted in two week time due to so much on the go.  I think the Christmas holidays will be the only two week I'll have as my own space/time since the start of the year.  I've also got to get my Heresy era Iron Warriors all fully painted by the end of next week!!! :whistling: 
But next update will be when the unit fully painted.  There still a lot to add onto the model from trophies, etc...

I'm aim to paint the Dreadnought along with the Warpsmith & Dark Apostle (Forge Chaplain) on the 24th Decemeber.  I've always aim the 23rd & 24th Decemeber as my own hobby time & also just to avoid helping family set up & tidy the house for Christmas.

Also on the 22nd Decemeber, I'm currently in talks with one of my friends about having a 7000pts game where it all fully painted models.  I'll be using the Iron Warriors & some Black Legion allies, while my friend going to use Tau & Dark Angels allies.  It'll be standard 40k just to help the game flow as nether of us are up to date on the Apocalypse rules.  I think they'll be written a battle report on there blog during the Christmas holidays as well.
 

Also while sort out some more boxies today since moving house back in June.  I mange to find my old 2nd ed Dreadnought who been in my Iron Warriors army since the very start in 2001

As said I've really enjoy converting the models.  The Chaos Champion has been a model I been meaning to pick up & the brotherhood of the brush give me that shove & to quickly work out how I wanted the model to tie in more with the look & theme of my Iron Warriors army, but the model still has it own look.
 

Talos has currently been undercaoted & I've just try the earth effect paint.  So see how it look tomorrow moring.

Yes I find when I'm collecting a army I will read novels or listen to audio more focuse toward them.  There great & always ton's of idea.  There been a lot of exsample in this topic, where I read somthing from Angels Extermantius & resulted in a conversion.  Or the limited ed Iron Warrior novel help toward idea toward my tanks.

I know while I'm painting I have a audio on usely base on the model/army I'm painting.

 

Same apply art work, John Blanche work from WD 202/2nd ed Chaos codex has been somthing I kept going back many times & the Bloodquest comics.

I've change the way I painted the gold, just orignaly on Variel I was painting the gold the way I'd been painting the colour on my Iron Warriors.  But yesterday though I try the change & suit the Night Lords.

 

Also I try out the new earth base paint.  That first I think I ended up using a bit to much & it was going a little funny.  But re-try & it look really cool.  I use the Games Workshop sculpting tool to scrap off the paint during the first try & something I suggest using if you find you use a bit to much.
I then added the brown wash mix with the medium & then dry brush with bleach bone (still not use to the new names).

Then adding the turft which is brilliant.

 

Since then I'm still add a few bits onto the models & hope to get both finish today.  Then get the other memebers ready to paint for next week, due to getting Heresy era Iron Warriors finish for there hobby challenge which is to be finish by Friday!!!!

Really trying to avoid jumping to NL but you don't make it easy. Love the darker metal. Much more fitting.

 

You could always do a kill team.  I know a few people here have use Kill team as a excuse just to try out different things.  One person trying out some idea for the Imperial Fist & that least has one of the new paints use on the models in there kill team.  While some are using them to start future armies.  For me it just First Claw, but I would like to collect each of the Chaos Legions in the future & the supplement are going to be a big thing helping into this :D

 

On another note.  I'm looking for idea.  As said in the past I like to add sub theme to my models, it help when converting them & it just bring life to the unit when I'm using them in a game, where more epic-ness is added to there history.

As said few post ago I recently got a second Forge World Dreadnought.  For this one I'd like to try convert it into a Warpsmith/siege type Dreadnought, after seen some great Dreadnought in this month White Dwarf & also looking back that March or May where they had a Nurgle type dreadnought conversion. 

One though was looking that the Orks Deff Dread & Killer kans, hopeful my oppent for Thursday rememeber to bring the spure let me see them.

 

On that note - It only from the Games Workshop &/or Forge World range that I use, so not other wargaming company for bits/parts.

Quick update

 

I was going to wait until I had First Claw fully ready until I posted more of them.........but..........

 

Mercutian, Variel & Uzas have been added.  I got the models built on Friday & just with me getting my Heresy era Iron Warriors painted bit faster than I though during today.  I also started work on my First Claw kill team.

Pretty much one of my friends where a bit worry about useing the Blood for the Blood god on there Son's of Horus.  So a few of us where shown the diffrent way of useing the blood effect paint.
Still got more blood to add.


I wanted Cyrion to look like he just hit someone skull in with the bolter & elbow.  Also if you read Void Stalker, there scene where they pretty much cover in blood.  Also my finger was cover in the blood paint when I pick up the bolter.

I just like adding the new blood effect.  It great match for the way I've painted blood before which was Red Gore & Cheasnut ink follow by Gloss varnish.  While waiting on First Claw & Heresy era Iron Warriors to dry, I though I add a bit extra blood on my Heldrake (part had broken & super glue went funny on it) which help cover it & also it did not look out of place on the blood that was already painted in the Red Gore way.

I just always like the Heavy Bolter from the Devastators set.

 

I just got Xarl & the Rhino to build & convert, which will get done during the weekend & that'll be part of the third update for Call of Chaos..  Then First Claw should hopeful see there first game next Wed against Space Wolves.

 

I've also just place a mail order for the Warpsmith, so I can use parts to convert  my own warpsmith which will be base on my avatar which was kindly drawn by Madscuzzy.  So hopeful start converting the models this weekend as well.
Just aim to have the Warpsmith, Dark Apostle & Forge World IW Dreadnought all ready to paint on the 24th Decemeber.  When it come to Christmas time, I usely like to get the 22nd to the 24th just to try get my own hobby.  Just due to how busy the Christmas holidays can get with family & Assassin's Creed, while 24th also mean I avoid helping out/getting the house tidy up for Christmas day/boxing day.

 

I still got to build & paint

- Fallen Angels for call of chaos. 

- 20 Cultist with Close Combat weapons for Call of Chaos.  I should hopeful buy the box of Cadains in the next few weeks, just before money spent on family christmas present. 

- Forge Fiend:  I got some conversion idea planned, just need to check some models before I buy the kits.

 

I'm also possible going to look into adding more Terminators units to my army.  Currently been working out a 1500pts list that included 2x Heldrakes, my Chaos Lord Narach, 3x 3-4/5 Terminators, cultist & Obliterators.  Just though be somthing fun to try out & possible look into exspanding on this army list for 1750pts tournaments for next year.  It'll also mean I will finial get around to adding those Terminators I been meaning to get for some time/arm with diffrent weapons just so there in my collecstion.

Also I've always just like the look of Chaos Terminators since I got White Dwarf 202, along with John Blanche art work, this was the other one that also draw me to Chaos when I started the hobby

Finial - Just bought tickets for Throne of Skulls March for the Iron Warriors.  So be some new conversion.  Then if I can work out my Terminators theme list, I might use that for Throne of Skulls Septemeber later next year :biggrin.:

Iron Warriors

Here my Champion all finish for the Warhammer World Brotherhood of the brush, which I belive finish today. Some really great enetry & it great seen them to get inspired/diffrent idea.

I was trying out a diffrent camera just for this & to send to the Warhammer World event team. Really like converting the Chaos Champion model, as said before this has been one model I wanted to add, but this give me the shove to pretty much get the idea to try fit this model to the look & theme of my army. Also allowed me to use some of the new effect paints.

 

Also just got the Warpsmith model today from mail order. So should be converting my new Warpsmith model soon. Been getting some idea from the computer game RYSE Son of Rome, with Damocles the black (vengance) centurion - see youtube. Just the gladiator armour look cool with the sort of skull faceplate, which I'm wanting to try convert useing the skull on the metal from the Iron Warriors finecast set. So try combi both that & my Avatar (drawn by Madscuzzy Admin of here/Bolter & Chainswords) & try draw other elements from the Democles armour/look.

I should be starting some conversion work in a few hours & also start work converting the Forge World IW Dreadnought.

Good luck with Brotherhood of the Brush. Fantastic looking mini.

 

Your Dread sounds intriguing. Like the concept. Should fit really well with the rest of your force.

 

As for NL...I have some bits picked out (including the FW pads because they are too good not to use), skulls, and a bottle of VGC Midnight Blue. But first I really must finish my Kakophoni (and decide what weapons to give the NL Praetor/ Chaos Lord).

The Brotherhood of the brush ended on Saturday there & Dan won it will his brillaint converted & painted Word Bearer Champion.  It was great to see everone take on the same model as everone going to have diffrent way painting &/or converting the model :D

Call of Chaos update.

 

I spent a bit of time between Saturday to today converting the Warpsmith.  I was inspired by both my Avatar which was kindly drawn by Madscuzzy & also recently seen videos on a new game (xbox?) called Ryse - Son of Rome, see youtube & mainly the  Damocles video which talk about a Rome General being betrayed by his Captain during battle.

I've use a Breacher shield from one of the older models that got replace earily this year.  I though it would be cool that the Warpsmith came from the Breacher ranks & would still use the wargear.  Also that he'd be with them during a seige to help out & led the Daemonic Engians.  Thawill be glued once the model been fully painted.
I'm going to start painting the model tomorrow.  But I'm also going to add bit as one of my friends is going to help me add a Skull to the faceplate, this idea being taken from the Ryse computer game.

I still to buy the Ironclad Dreadnought (once I got money) & also order the Imperial Dreadnought arm from Forge World.  Still trying to work out the Warpsmith theme for this dreadnought, if not there always new models in the future to convert & add to my Iron Warriors army :D

So I add him to my Kill team in tomorrow game while I try to gather bits to conver Xarl.

I also got First Claw Rhino built & was hoping on painting that tomorrow.  But there a few bits of green stuff work to be done as the Forge World front armour (Night Lord one) seem a bit short/gaps.  It'll also give me time to add a plasticard icon later this week to the top hatch of the Rhino model as well & find some trophies.
So I'm going to paint the Warpsmith tomorrow & finish painting the current models in my First Claw kill team.

I've still to paint the power axe which will be part of the third update, along with adding Chaos rune & some other detail I need to finish.  He also going to be added to my army in tomorrow 2200pts game.  Pretty much with no events right now, I'm taken the time to get diffrent point games just to allow me to use units I may not use in a while or still to try in a game.  Two week ago saw me just rolling a d3 for the army list I would use.  Last week was 2200pts (one force org chart) to allow me to try out the Black Legion supplment as allies.

First Claw also had there first game in Kill team.  Really suprise that the game pretty short & good way if you not got time for the standard 1500pts & above point games.

Was going well, First Claw mange to take the Space Wolves down to one model, while I'd loss half my own, my models where ready to assault the lone Space Wolf in my turn.......... only to fail my Ld & ment I loss the game.............. 
But I did enjoy useing First claw in the game & that for once I mange to roll a lot of high dice rolls...... well apart from the Ld :(  But great game & got a few more line up.  Hopeful get Xarl converted during the weekend so he will be ready for then along with the Rhino :)
