AlanofAngels
Love the new Mortation, dude! And that's a model that you already made look incredible! Out of curiosity, are you thinking about any freehand on the cloak? It's got a such a nice big surface for it, but I could definitely get behind the minimalist approach since it's Mortarion (and maybe just going with some trim, if anything). Awesome work man! Lorenzen
Nah no free hand itll just get dirt and grime painted on and the small strip of green along the bottom
Lorenzen
Slow progress on the big guy.. He's getting close to the point where laziness could call him done, but I'm having a good time painting him and want to keep pushing for "best mortarion i can do atm" i gave him a quick dust of varnish to protect some of the work thats already been done, and also to help distinguish bits of brass trim that need more work etc (too close in tone to the armour in places) Silence still needs a boat load of work too.. dunno if I'll give it a wooden haft this time or try and do something that keeps it close to black. Kraad Belak
Your entire log makes me question not only my ability as a modeller and painter, but also my manhood...Keep up the awesome work brother.
One-eye
The armour is breathtaking ! I would let the haft in black to not divert the attention from the armour (if wood pattern is too elaborate). Shoulder pads could be worked a little bit more (don't know if you consider them done or not btw Lorenzen 1 Back to top
sockwithaticket
Crikey, to consider that this isn't done yet! I really like the shading of the white cloak. Lorenzen 1 Back to top
Lorenzen
Your entire log makes me question not only my ability as a modeller and painter, but also my manhood... Â Keep up the awesome work brother. Â Never question your own ability just set goals and work to them, I strive to be better at what i do.. I class myself as an "ok" sculptor because my goal is Sam Egan levels of detail and skill and despite him always being positive about where I'm heading with my work I'm like a blind child with no hands compared to him. Â Thanks for the kind words though guys.. Morty is progressing but my blood bowl team "Da Seattle Sea Orcs" is getting in the way of meaningful updates atm.. there might also be some egyptian themed dudes in shiny red armour before long too.. Â Oh and the shoulders aren't finished, they need more definition between the greys and the white and a glaze of blue at the bare minimum, the photography does however kill some of the gradient as its the highest point of the brightness on the shoulder AND on the cameras exposure on the model. Lorenzen
Â "Da Seattle Sea Orcs"Please post theseAlso, enjoy the snow today if you're from the area I'm pretty certain they don't apply to the forums rules.. and I'm native to the UK but have a fondness for American Football and basketball.. Seahawks & Magic being my teams of choice. Â The legs are just shaded with an airbrush as the base layers for the armour. Vallejo german grey as the darkest colour ,minitaire cracked soil as a midtone then vallejo pale sand as a highlight.. wash with burnt umber and edge highlighted amd weathered. Lorenzen
Ok so with a week of painting left until the horus heresy weekender i figured it was time for some updated pictures of morty.. there are still things that i want to do to him before i completely run out of time, but i figure this is a good point to show him off again from various angles.  http://orig14.deviantart.net/b8c0/f/2017/022/6/a/mortarion_by_typhion-dawdwhj.jpg  http://orig07.deviantart.net/4642/f/2017/022/1/b/mortarion_front_by_typhion-dawdwxm.jpg  http://orig15.deviantart.net/bc6b/f/2017/022/2/d/mortarion_left_by_typhion-dawdx2x.jpg  http://orig08.deviantart.net/2b62/f/2017/022/6/f/mortarion_back_by_typhion-dawdwsq.jpg Edited January 24, 2017 by Lorenzen Checkmate, Kizzdougs, Thrillhouse and 2 others 5 Back to top
bloodhound23
This is my favorite Mortarion I've seen. Great work, even if it's not finished. Your take on the color scheme takes the cake.
brother tycho
just gorgeous, the impression your work gives me is you can pour more effort into the death guard and get an equivalent return.
Lorenzen
I think its one of the best colour schemes to showcase more "realistic" techniques & weathering & will reward time & effort massively.

Mirbeau
Best Morty I've ever seen, easily, amazing painting. That said, what's going on with the white bits on the pads - can't tell from the pics what material they're meant to be?
Lorenzen
The white bits are cloth covering the actual shoulder pads themselves, the photos cripple some of the transitions between the lighter parts as most of the light source hits them quite strongly Mirbeau 1 Back to top
Lorenzen
Been a little while since I've posted anything in here but i'll be changing that soon.. Â For the meantime here's a quick link to the article from warhammer community that my DG along with Paul Rudge's and Jonny from the Sons of Heresy podcast are featured.. Â https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/06/27/titans-clash-at-warhammer-world-june27gw-homepage-post-2/ Â Lots of inaccuracies in their words though.. there were about 25 knights in total on the table and they got destroyed at various stages of the game and my reaver (Deus Interfectorum) lasted past turn 1 (though not by much) and was responsible for killing an enemy warhound and reaver. Â Enjoy the pictures.. and marvel at my immense dice box! ;) Checkmate, Grim Dog Studios and Kizzdougs 3 Back to top

Lorenzen
So with the open day come and gone and a second 30,000 point per side game organised for that i've been somewhat busy.. ill get some proper shots up of individual units and the such soon i promise but for now a game shot will have to do (amusingly on several blogs, sites etc our game was mislabelled as the "titan game" for the open day.. probably because nobody paid much attention to that whilst our table was quite popular) Â Â There are more photos (and a few videos floating about but i don't have them to hand.. Been feeling a little burnt out lately on beige stuff so decided to do something a little different.. Â Â Â Â yep gold dudes! theres the majority of a 3k list ready to be painted and i think ive figured out a recipe for the gold that i like so from there its just a matter of getting everything else to a standard im happy with and figuring out some cool ruins/desert bases for them. Unknown Chronicler
I love seeing your work and have been watching for years now (has it really been years? I can remember when I first saw your Fire Angels being posted ages ago!). My goal is to hopefully reach your level of painting and sculpting at some point as you've been my source of inspiration for awhile now :) Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see those Custodes all finished up! Looking back on my own stuff is quite interesting.. so much stuff that at the time i thought was pretty damn good that nowadays I look at and think "yeesh I used to suck" just gotta keep pushing forwards I guess and try to push our limits.  Started working on a Contemptor as i wanted to see how the scheme translated to larger models (theres some vehicles being built atm too.. but i need to be less of a butterfly and finish the 6 infantry and dread before i get distracted by something else) and its coming along quite nicely, I actually think the scheme looks nicer on something larger as the transitions can be a bit bolder. Lots still to do though, defining areas and making the shadows and highlights deeper and bolder.. Biggest problem with guys who are 98% gold is making them look interesting from a little further away IMHO.  Ramell, Bjorn Firewalker, Dantay VI and 2 others 5 Back to top
hushrong
That is an stunning gold scheme you have going on for your Custodes! Â I also have to chime in and say your skills are sublime! I still remember years ago you giving me pointers when I tried Astral Claws and you had your Fire Angels (which are awesome!). I wish I paid better attention because nothing I paint can even hold a light anywhere near your minis. In all sincerity they are pure joy to look upon.
