Remus Tyrax stepped from the ordnance lift as it ground into it's housing upon the battlement, his prestigious bulk clearing a path through the clustering Guardsmen that had assembled, eager to see if they were being relieved. They recoiled from the two Astartes that prowled forward, revulsion, curiosity and intimidation thundering inside their minds. Captain Tyrax picked out his target within seconds and altered his course along the Hive's curtain wall, Gerhet slipping like a shark in his wake. The Fabricator-General turned towards the giant parting the soldiers before him like the ice breakers in the far north and with a undetectable burst of binary relayed orders to his Skirtarii. The gene-bulked enforcers stomped forward and formed a rank before the Fabricator-General's entourage, shouldering their powerful weapons but keeping them primed. The Space Marine stopped, his armoured form stationary several paces from his body guards guns, but the mans cold grey eyes fixed his bionic ones with a stern glare.

"I welcome thee, O' protector of Mankind, to humble Kolstrom Quintus, may the Omnissiah grant you-"

The Space Marine cut his hand forward in the air, cutting off the flow of clipped High Gothic.

"Do not speak the words of Terra if you are only going to butcher them."

The second Marine came to stand beside his Captain and although the rending claws upon the giant weapon he carried were still sheathed, the Fabricator-General noted the influx of energy that suggested the weapon was still activated. This situation would need to be handled carefully.

"...I apologise my lord, I merely sought to offer thanks for your timely response to our struggle. "

Remus let the words shatter on his armour, he cast his gaze around the assembled members of Kazon Hive's esteemed upper echelon. He noted the fluted mitre of a priest and couldn't help the grunt that escaped his lips. His eyes settled upon the Skitarii blocking his path and he sized them up, he knew Gerhet was spoiling for a fight behind him. They wouldn't be able to take these Mechanicum super soldiers in a stand up fight on their own so Tyrax dismissed that idea.

"Spare your apologies. Your men are weak, their courage is lacking and you must reinstall their fighting spirit or you will all die."

Silence met the Space Marines words. Not one man on the wall top that heard could comprehend what had been said. These were supposed to the be the Holy Angels of the Emperor, the sacred protectors of mankind. There were stories told of these angelic warriors descending on flames to banish the darkness and its minions and raise up the children of the Imperium in songs of praise and love, they were legends come to life.

"I see it is not just the Soldiery that is ill prepared."

That seemed the spark some life upon the wall top and the Ministorum priest bustled his way forward through the assembled men but made sure to stand behind the armoured wall of the Skitarii bodyguard.

"O' Guardian of Man, speak not these unkind words! You were made with His love, with His will, it is your duty to give that unto us, the mortal children of Him on Holy Terra! I speak the words of Sebastian Thor-"

A cough of impatience cut caused the Priest to stutter. Tyrax raised a pointed brow at the man, his patrician features tilting slightly, his chin bared to the priest.

"Save it, Priest. I care not for the scribbles of mad men. I care only for the ability of these men to fight."

So, I figured I'd put a face to the name and re-did my Centurion (Captain) model as I was dissatisfied with it. I felt the previous incarnation did not feel the aesthetic of the rest of the force so he had a refit. This is a first of many for me, revisiting an old model to completely change it up. I hit a patch of hobby death for a few weeks but tonight I got the urge to do something, so I experimented. Below is light box and flash shots of the completed model along with my first serious attempt at battle damage and weathering. Have I got it passable or have I over done it?

Rudimentary light box is pretty crap, I need more powerful bulbs I think, the colour seems to wash out in there.

They aren't the best photos but they'll do for now until I can get a decent set up, currently using my phone and some old desk lamps.

What do you guys think?

Cheers,

I think you're right about needing stronger lamps for your lightbox (I prefer whites for a lightbox, but that's personal preference). You may need better coverage as well, but that's up to you to decide.

Tyrax looks good. Real non-nonsense officer there.

Looks good brother msn-wink.gif

But I've got a fellblade now so you need to strip your MM and come to the heresy msn-wink.gif

Thank you Jasp.

I saw! I'll eventually get there, unfortunately I'm waiting for the Ultramarines to be a release. It'll give me enough time to save the monumental crap ton of cash I'm gonna need to do Roboute, Honour Guard and a demi-legio.

Most definitely, I think I'll sort out the light box before I crack on with my next project, I'm gonna need real good lighting for the green armour.

I can't stand over the top commanders, my line sergeants are more blinged out than my HQ's.

He looks good heck your phone takes better pic's than my camera.Stay the course .

I'll try brother.

So, my yellow crapped out on me and went sludgy so it took a good half an hour to tease it back into life. Then it took a further hour of layering yellow to a consistent coat. This is how far I got with Prefect Marian of Forward Suppression Quintus 'Trench Runners'.

The red skull denotes his participation in the Macharian Heresy and the blood shed against the Star Phantoms and Minotaurs, the tabard will be the green of my own personal campaign and his crest denotes his long standing service within the Chapters forces, he has more experience than the two previous Captains of the 3rd under his pauldrons and that makes him the perfect Marine for leading the fresh replacements into the thick of battle.

He's styled in the pose of my favourite GW model ever made.

Cheers,

BT

Alright lads, it's go time again. I'm in for a local tourney on May the 1st and I have no idea what I'm up against. It's 750point lists, Codex restricted. So, I've put together a jack-of-all list I think would work in the pinch I'm in, especially as it has to be versatile enough to face anything.

 - HQ -

Captain with Powersword

- TROOPS -

Tactical with flamer, heavy bolter in a Rhino

Tactical with flamer, heavy bolter in a Rhino

Scouts with camo cloaks and sniper rifles

- HEAVY SUPPORT -

Devastators with storm bolter and 4 missile launchers in a Lasback

Running Imperial Fist Chapter Tactics I feel this way I've got 31 Marines on the board, so lots of anti-infantry and the Devs with Tank Hunter and the Lasback will be my anti-tank. The only problem I am going to encounter is Flyers. I'm not sure I can really drop anything of import to squeeze anti-flyer in there. I guess I could remove the scouts and the Lasback and fit an Aegis Line in there and have the Captain man the Quad gun, but then what do you recommend I do with the left over 40 points? Give my -now foot slogging- Captain a relic?

Thoughts would be very much appreciated.

How do you get that yellow? And what Chapter tactics are you using?

Hey Calgar 2.0, it's simply very thin Averland Sunset layers until it's a consistent coat across the surface of the model, nothing fancy :)

I use Imperial Fist Chapter Tactics.

Loving the Captain and the Prefect.

For your list, what about Flakk missiles for the Devs? With Tank Hunters, they become pretty decent anti-flyer weapons.
Also, who is your captain traveling with? Aren't both the Rhinos going to be full?

Thanks dude, although the Captain now sticks out like a sore thumb and there's a voice in the back of my head telling me to go back and weather my entire battle company ermm.gif .

There in lies to conundrum I'm facing, I have to drop something from that list to be able to squeeze in the 40 points required for Flakk missiles (as I'd rather not rely one 1 or 2 to get the job done) so if I was going to do that, would it not make more sense to drop the Lasback and the Scouts and take the Aegis+Quad gun? The Captain will be hanging about with the Devs to give them a bit of meat as they'll be the hard hitters. I could always drop off the scouts and use the 30 points left over to beef up the Captain some more?

I had also been tempted to say screw it and just run two minimal scout squads, Captain with Primarchs Wrath and slam some Hammernators in a Land Raider Phobos, but that style of play doesn't sit right with me.

  • 4 weeks later...

So it's been a while (nothing since the 12th of last month) since I did any work on anything. A few things got me bummed out but I decided screw it and repainted one of my Rhinos, it needed a touch up.

It's not the best and there's probably heaps left to do on it but I think it's done enough, especially for the dirty well used look I want.

What do you guys think?

They're some nasty looking vehicles! (In a nice way)

The one thing that you could do to improve them is sort out the decals/transfers. As it stands there's a translucent film around the outside of them. The most obvious one is the "Imperius Dominatus" on the Vindicator. If you give it a lick of satin varnish it should get rid of it quite nicely, and look like it's been painted onto the siege shield.

Just my 2p. They're already awesome models, I just see no reason to try not to push that last little bit out!

Thank you brother, I must admit I am guilty of just slapping decals on and moving on. I'll pick up some varnish when I do my next order of paints and brushes and I'll go back to revisit decals on my tanks.

So finished the last Rhino last night, so that was three tanks in three days and that completes the Malevolent armoury so far.

Out of a full battle company there is only the devastators and the command squad left to do, what would be the best way to kit out a command squad do you guys think?

Cheers for stopping by.

So, can't do much as I'm laid up with a doctors note and spaced out on painkillers.

I did a little work on refitting my command squad to actually be usable in games to support my shooty captain.

I'll file off flash and lines and drill the barrels when I feel better.

Hope you feel better soon, btw.

I never bothered with plasma as I always did abysmal with the one gun in my Black Templar codex usage. The previous load out on my CS was extortionate and excluded them from games of anything but Apoc for the Battle Company requirement. Now I can blam blam sucka's from 24" away. These will be my Psyker hunters when I play my pesky Eldar opponent.

I hope so too man, being this stoned is not good :/

Plasma Death gotta love it.Heal upthumbsup.gif .

I'm starting to like the look of the plasma! Also ordered 3 bikers today, gonna need some filing to get some icons off but I'll be slapping some grav goodness on them.

Haha, well I have been putting together a suit of the Hounds armour for quite a while now....

Thank you very much, that's high praise as far as I'm concerned!

I do love the classic "not the FACE!" plasma gun Marine mini! happy.png

I figured it'd be rude not to have at least one!
