Hey, everyone! In case you noticed I had been away for a while, I am back!

Several RL critical issues interceded, but it looks like I will be able to dust off the Storm Brothers and get painting again!

I hope to pick up the bikes and jet bike where I left off, as well as start a unit of assault marines.

So... There are new rules now? See what happens when you miss a few months- sheesh!

Thanks, everyone! Feels great to back in the saddle (so to speak)

After I finish the assault marines (which have been really fun to paint) I want to finish the 5 man bike squad I started and the general on the jet bike. I am also behind in completing my rhinos 100%.

Next will be land speeders, a land raider for my termies, and I have an idea for a dreadnought on treads that I need to selects bits for... I know the general WS fluff does not encourage dreads, but they are such great models and I would have to believe they have at least a few mighty warriors that would make the sacrifice... And if I can make them "faster" looking on treads, I am thinking it will fit nicely with my theme.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Jeff- what is your new user pic? Are you still doing your Eagle Eyes?

Oh yeah! I started a blog, which I'm calling Tibbs Forge. That's the logo I made up for it. Not all that much on it yet. You can find it at TibbsForge.com if you're so inclined. I've been working on very little lately, but work on the Knight is picking up again.

Hey all, anyone have any tips on painting lettering?

My brush skills are decent enough, but when it comes to the point of writing things (shoulder pads, ribbons, etc.) it all falls apart and looks significantly worse than the rest of the mini.

Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.

At this point I am thinking I will just leave them blank, as I think it looks better than having the sloppy writing on it.

Look up a "ye olde" type font and try copying it with a fine detail brush.

Making it look old and capturing the general shape of the letters is more important than it being readable.

I've had success with Sakura Pigma Micron pens. And by success, I mean the ink goes onto the acrylic paint well, doesn't smudge around, and doesn't do funky stuff when clear coat goes over it. You can pick them up one off at pretty much any art supply store, and they come in a variety of point sizes that go pretty fine, if that's your inclination.

EDIT: spelling, clarity

This is a tough one. Having the right brushes is part of it, but also the way you hold the brush. Do yourself a favor and look up vides of two types of people that do it the right way. Sign lettering and hotrod pin striping. You have to hold the brush very differently, at a MUCH more acute angle. Closer to parallel with the flat surface you're painting, so the brush sort of drags through the line you're creating. It's a real pain in the butt at our scale, especially on curves. If you really want to get those clean lines (and knowing you, I think you might) I'd print clear decals with the curve of the scroll built in and just stick those on. Use a dark brown or gray. It will look super crisp. If you're a freehand purist, though, nothing beats practice. I know that's probably not what you want to hear...

EDIT: you know... We could use some close-ups but I think the "strike" looks pretty decent on that shield... Maybe you should just give yourself a freaking break. :D

Hey all, tried to get 100% finished last night but just couldn't do it. Will finish today and take some better pictures- in the meantime, here is where I left off last night:

Finally! As done as they are going to be-- pretty happy overall, though you know how it is once you take those close up pictures... Assault Marines are fun the paint and the Vanguard Vet models are excellent-- looking forward to painting the rest of a full squad. Still can't quite figure out the photography-- they seem too dark, or over exposed-- can't find the right balance.

suggestions/comments welcome as always!
