The Renascibilitas Crusade [Redemptor WIP]

Hmm... I thought I had just 'tweaked' Andrey Markov but now I've googled it and yeah, guess he is a hockey player now rather than a mathematician! Oops.

"Due to a garbled sub space transmission, Castellan Andrey Marakov's personnel record was corrupted. This has now been rectified."

Yeah, when I first painted a templar over 10 years ago, I liked the scheme but wanted my own take on it. I remembered stories about allies in WW2 painting 'x's on the top of their tanks to avoid friendly fire without high-tech signals etc, and I liked the idea of my crusade adopting a mid-campaign identifier to assist their friendly air-forces while battling traitorous marines on a smog-covered planet. Surviving a harrowing campaign like that meant the crusade now continues to adopt the same markings as a badge of honour ;)

Well obviously it's ridiculous to use a firearm held sideways. In

future please make more reasonable models such as Assault Squads

You know, the ones that sensibly propel themselves across the

battlefield with rocket backpacks, braving weird alien weaponry in a mad

attempt to hit anything in the face with a chainsaw sword because a guy

told you to do it 10000 years ago. :laugh.:

You guys kill me sometimes.

So MM, please do proceed in a manner that most entertains you...not like you needed my blessing, for crying out loud. :P

May I mention that a Bush will turn a Land Raider turning into piece of metals due to 6th deep strike rules? (Blood Angels LRs)

Conclusion:

Deep Striking is useless, except if it's from a DropPod.

Now I don't really believe that.... because nothing says Angels of Death quite like:

I had too many troubles with Deep Striking...Like with Plasma...

So no more, and DropPods ftw.

@MM will you paint a Knight? =D

Eventually, yes. As soon as I can work out how to make a tabard and shield for it.

I just love those jump packs. It's such a shame that they wasted them on Chaos. I love that pic to death. :)

After arriving in orbit over the mechanicum world, Castellan Andrey Marakov confirmed his orders to his chosen team. The elite unit was to be made up of the finest marksmen the crusade had to offer. Their goal was to make planetfall, infiltrate the strangely deserted city and eliminate any hostile forces in the area. There was an ancient statue in the centre of the constructions, constructed to pay homage to the glory of the forces defending Terra, and it was a symbol of the imperium refusing to give up. It was to be preserved from the taint of the Xenos at all costs.

As his brothers advanced through the ruins, the Castellan spotted movement ahead of them. The glint of a gun barrel high in a building window. "Split up and take them down."

http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a628/matzeke/00ED4F89-CC88-4831-8C65-56E96B4A2ADF_zps237mh3na.jpg

At that moment, there was a stuttering of gunfire. The templars reacted, moving towards the cover of nearby ruins. But no shots came their way...

http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a628/matzeke/F1768356-B970-4AF4-9F31-E67C5EDCE929_zpsw6kbpt6b.jpg

Looking ahead, they spotted their enemy, a strike force of Eldar snipers and banshees, engaging a raiding party of their more twisted and devilish brethren.

http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a628/matzeke/F1710BF6-3408-4895-83CD-F8B99FFF7573_zpse5nni7fj.jpg

The templars wasted no time pondering the nature of the fight, and moved to defend the statue, following their Castellan's example and using their incendiary rounds to send foul Xenos of all varieties tumbling from rooftops around them.

Brother Nikolai spotted one of the screeching creatures sprinting past a window and shouldered his accurised plasma gun, sighting and dropping the foe with a single shot.

http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a628/matzeke/224E7F2D-895E-43FA-8F6D-7A178EAC9433_zpsfjmia3nx.jpg

Another appeared on a balcony, and Brother Pyetrovich looked up as he scurried forward, calmly squeezing off a precise blast of his stripped-down multi melta, leaving a gaping hole in the wall as the creature scuttle backwards.

The fighting ahead of them was slowing, as the Banshee Exarch finished off the remnants of the pirates and rallied her troops in their direction. As the enemy closed the distance with incredible speed, and leapt into close range combat with deadly agility.

http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a628/matzeke/6BFD47B8-BD2E-433F-9D21-16B7865C0079_zpssjp7r12l.jpg

The exarch's throwing weapons hit their marks and two brothers fell to the ground wounded. The third struck Marakov and he felt the surge of pain as it penetrated the vulnerable join of his armour plates. He pulled the blade out, grunting with the exertion as he hurled it back at the nearest banshee as she charged, burying it through her face-plate. "To me, brothers!"

Two more were overwhelmed by a flurry of attacks, but the remaining warriors tightened their formation and readied their weapons, vengeance rounds wordlessly clipped into place in all three boltguns. Just as they were about to squeeze the trigger, there was a flash of light and the enemy was teleported away. Some of the machinery left by the absentee tech adepts was humming strangely, sparking occasionally. The few banshees left had escaped, albeit not by their own design.

Helping his wounded brothers to their feet, the Castellan glanced towards the statue, satisfied that it had remained untouched.

(This was a 'king of the hill' rumble between my templars, a ranger/banshee force and an Incubi/kabal team of dark Eldar. The statue in the centre was the objective, and my team was closest to it when we had to call the game early for the Eldar player to make it to work on time. At this point, the Dark Eldar were down to a single warrior. My remaining guys were outnumbered by the exarch/4 banshees, but it was my turn in rapid-fire range, so it may have gone either way. We called it a tie. I played a tad too aggressively, not expecting the Eldar to be quite so fast! It would have been very different had I forced them to handle another turn of shooting. Unfortunately the majority of his banshees stayed well out of sight engaging the dark Eldar. Castellan FNP'd the AP3 attack and overwatched the banshee who charged him, which was awesome. Grizzled veteran indeed. Two more games incoming!)

Nooo, I wrote a nice long report then it crashed and now it's gone...

Highlights? 30" sniping of enemy leader with the first shot.

Over-watching plasma gun vaporises Incubi.

Castellan gets at least 3 kills personally.

Castellan gets shot from behind, makes another FNP save, then turns, charges and beats the enemy to death with his boltgun through a window :)

Discovered the relic secret objective and quickly consolidated to protect it.

Few negatives: attempted vengeance round explodes, destroying the weapon and leaving the Sword Brother wielding it incapped. Second overwatch with plasma fails, and the other brother falls to the charging incubus.

The rest of the enemy is obliterated and the last Incubi are destroyed before they can close on the relic bearer. Solid win with only two casualties, one of which was self inflicted. Castellan heroically led from the front and finally got into combat.

After securing the relic, the next match involved both sides trying to get a messenger through enemy lines to reach extraction to secure the relic permanently, or to bring in reinforcements.

The templars spread out, the Castellan taking personal responsibility for breaking through. The famous templar zeal saw the brethren make excellent progress across the battlefield, catching the bulk of the warriors in a pincer movement and wiping them out after a few rounds of shooting with only 2 casualties. Again, the Incubi struggled to close the gap and were blasted apart in short order, failing their ambitious 10" charge attempt and suffering for their hubris. The Castellan left his brothers to finish the extermination as he continued to the extraction zone. The remaining warriors turned to flee, but were caught by mikhail's combi-flamer blast and burned to a cinder, removing the final threat.

A great day's work for the crusaders! Buoyed by their success, but desperate for some more hand-to-hand, the brothers have been enjoying some sparring matches to sharpen their skills, gaining +1WS for the remainder of the campaign.

Hey guys, I need some help with a name for my Kill Team. It's only for the campaign and it should ideally be funny but representative, preferably with a pun of some kind :P

My best idea so far was "The Maleficent Seven" as a play on the old classic western, given that they are 7 gun toting badboys dressed all in black. But, it still implies more evil than knightly and I'm not sure if it fits. Anyone able to come up with some alternative suggestions?

I ran into a similar problem (losing battle reports). I type them up in a seperate google doc file now first. Nice bat rep and shots. Like how you are making them dynamic through the building windows and such.

If its a camera (instead of a cell phone), might think about picking up a monopod. I just snagged one, made a massive difference. They're very light, easily portable, and help hold the camera steady for close up zoomed shots like that!

Yeah, it's always a fine balance between trying to get nice shots and not disrupting the flow of the game. Not every opponent has the patience so I try to be as quick and unobtrusive as possible. Also, the fuzzy stuff can help hide the unfinished paint jobs ;)

The close-up action shots just help tell the story better. I took more photos, but inevitably when you try to take full-board shots, it ends up being fairly generic and it can be near enough impossible to even pick out which units are which! If I had my own board, I would totally rig up some sort of overhead-shot system for a true birds-eye view... Might need a garage or something to keep that in though!

Still, the monopod is something I will look into. My local store would probably enjoy some smart looking battle reports for their Facebook page :P

If you do pickup a monopod, make sure to get one with a ball joint. Then you can extend it to full height, with it preset at an angle, and take better angled board shots.

Here is an example of the one I use.  (I got mine used for 22 shipped)

(Just to be clear, I'm just sharing info I've learned myself here, I am not criticizing your work. I just figure if someone can learn a bit from how I've gone through the process of improving my own shots, all the better!)

Here is an example under a spoiler tag (as not to take away from your thread) of shot examples and setup/size of the above unit in question.

You could always steal Starship Trooper's idea, you know "Rico's Roughnecks" ?:teehee:

But it should sound somewhat Templary though.  If not, write down some background and give em a cool name.

Perhaps an idea could be to call them :"The Blades of Marakov" (or somesuch) and assign each Trooper in the squad a weapon name. ie: "Scimitar", "Lance", "Javelin", etc.... :cool.:

Thanks for the tips Greggles, I'll keep my eyes open for a bargain.

Nice ideas Andhil, I'm feeling inspired. Maybe it doesn't have to be too funny after all... I'm hoping for a game tomorrow against the current campaign leader (with the banshee/ranger list) and if I can pull off a win, then I think the team deserve a suitably epic name :)

No game today, not a single opponent available and even the staff were swamped :( Picked up a couple of paints and some inspiration instead. So the question is: what's the next project?

Strip LRR/Vindicator for ETL? (I have neither in my crusade so far)

Build some neophyte shield-bearers? (Only have around 12 neos)

Build my counts-as LotD squad? ('Sons of Dorn' deathwatch/boarding specialists themed squad)

Pick up a knight? (Will take a long time to complete as I am only doing it if it can have shield/sword/tabard)

Get a khares contemptor?( It's probably the only shooty-dread that is cool enough to be Templar and it can even fill an AA role I believe)

Start work on a new honour guard? (I have some temporary models that can fulfill the role, but they aren't nearly awe-inspiring enough to be the elite of my crusade)

I'm really at a loss...

Given the timing, I'd say the LRR/Vindicator is a pretty good project. Count-as LoTD is probably the most interesting though.

Given that you're not against spending on forgeworld stuff, I would say hold on to your money and wait before working on honor guard: the 30k Templar Brethren are coming and may make awesome models for honor guards since that's essentially what they are. If you don't like 'em, you can always then drop the money on the contemptor/knight or start making your own HG.

Words of wisdom from an honoured brother! I had all but forgotten about the templar brethren teaser from FW. I will strip and prep the reclaimed vehicles first. If I still have time before ETL, I will then order and prep the parts for my LotD/Neos so that I have a few vows lined up. :D
