D3 Rending Auto Hits from Flamers in Overwatch per Marine?

Whats not to love?

Especially that you can now no longer kill models in a unit that are outside of a weapons range ie if they cant be touched by the flamer template, no matter how many wounds you cause those models cant get hurt by it - something that Wall of Death Bypasses - and when theyre hopping out of a transport they cant charge from (iirc, armoured spearhead only allows Proteus' for units that can take Rhinos) having some charge prevention is a good thing.

For any other combi weapon than the Flamer, why would you even consider using them for overwatch in the first place?

I mean, Sniper Combi-Flamers have some potential hilarity there. Especially with Overwatch

I don't think you can go wrong with 4-5 combi framers and 2 heavy framers in a marksman veteran squad, seems like a lot of fun. Plus after shooting amd assaulting the target it's likely you'll easily get the outnumber bonus for extra attacks. That being said combi plasma or melta are certainly not bad options.

An anti-charge option using the flamer wasn't something I had even considered, my Vets are in Proteus (Protei?) but for Armoured Spearhead you can take the Phobos as well. Seems redundant for a non-choppy squad though. Edited by Rangaman

heya would like some advice what would you guys say be a good 1500 points sons of horus list? need it for a game at the end of the month, feel free to pm it to me if this isent the place for it, have 15 justarin to run with 4 contemptor dreadnoughts 3x 10 marines with ccw and a chaplain and a char in termi armour with combi melta and chainfist, thats painted stuff, can build 10 jump reavers 1 marybe 2 droppods and 10 missile guys with master of signals, could maybe convert up something else if needed, dont really have any vehicles at all. so open for list ideas prefbly with a high detail tatical explernation that would make the warmaster proud ;)

thanks!

Horus & two squads of Justaerian ;)

But for reals, Mal is incredible for this points level as Vet Troops without the pride downsides is crazy good. If you have any pods running orbital assault with these guys would be amazing.

this is what i have to work with, and can build a bit more if needed as mentioned

have unassembled droppods and can convert up some stuff

so i need to build droppods :smile.:

edit: how many?

Well ALL infantry must take one (or be in a different transport with deep strike [flyer]) or have the DS rule themselves in Orbital Assault, but Terminators DO get built in deep strike in the RoW (so give those initial pod squads Nuncio voxes!!!)

So while it's rather limiting, there is actually a fair scope for things. Plus something I just noticed, Deathstorm Drop pods become Fast Attack, which is awesome.

If you don't want to you don't even "need" the drop pods (though they're recomended), you could run another rite like TLM and just outflank your vets, though you would lose the turn 1 re-rolling. I play my SoH with a dreadclw and a normal pod and usually it's enough, though I'll admit that sometimes I miss another dreadclaw...

I think as it says 'allows its controlling player' to add or subtract 1 from the results of any reserve rolls, it doesn't force you to do so. It wouldn't make sense if adding a piece of high tech technology actually made the XVI worse, although it would be hilarious. :P

since the thread is all died down i can ask another silly question to get things going again! how do droppods work? what i meant was i heard that to run droppods everything will have to have droppods? so you cant have some heavy weapon teams in the deployment zone and rest droppod down nere the enemy?

socond question is volkite good for sons of horus? if so what type of volkite? big small and on what units? and whats the best way to use said units?

Right so, drop pods all work around a rule called "drop pod assault". This causes you to half half of your drop pods (rounding up) automatically arrive on the first turn. The rest are rolled for like regular reserves in turn 2 onwards.

In 30k you have four kinds of Drop Pods:

Legion Drop pod - this is your basic one. Holds ten power armoured guys. It will arrive from reserve unload it's contents then is just an immobile vehicle. You can only use them in certain rites of war.

Dreadclaw Pod - a dedicated transport for lots of units. Alternatively can be purchased as a fast attack spot by itself. Holds ten guys or 5 terminators etc. Is actually a flyer so acts like a plane but also gets drop pod assault rule.

Dreadnought drop pod - dedicated transport for many dreadnought types. Lands but then functions like an open topped transport so they can choose to stay in or out. Lots of current discussion going on about its poorly written rules.

Kharybdis Assault Claw - Dreadclaw daddy. Holds 25 models and pretty well armed. A heavy support choice.

So the latter three of those csn be used in most any army, but to use the normal Legion pods you need to run the rite of war: Orbital assault, this let's you take pods instead of Rhinos it units that can take them have to and have to deploy via them.

Jup, thread slowed down a bit, guess because everything had been discussed thrice.. ;)

Personally I love Volkite. 10 Culverins are over 300 points, but damn, they gun down everything.. sure, other legions might do it better with the same unit, but still, love them.

If you want to go with a cool unit that fits the SoH special rules.. support squads with volkite chargers and CCW. Good punch with 2 attacks base +2 for charging and outnumbering, but the gem is of course bs5 volkite.. 20 St 5 Shots with deflegrate plus charging afterwards is nothing to sniff at.. it's a bit of a terror squad and we know, they are pretty effective.

Well they are, you just have to run Orbital assault, which with SoH is super easy and poweful.

You take Maloghurst as your master of the legion and the Orbital Assault rite. Then fill your troops with drop podding vets /readers / teleporting Justaerian etc :D
