I haven't been spammed by it yet, but I did have a pair in a game I had fairly recently.

You are 100% correcton the All Is Dust front and it was very frustrating for my opponent who couldn't peel off infantry on 2+. After a turn wasted trying to shoot Rubrics away from objectives he decided to switch due to only receiving a handful of casualties.

As a result my Predators were focused on, but the trade off was totally worth it. There was some nasty drops from the Storm Raven but TSons are always fairly strong against MEQ. My only real issue was dealing with the mobility of drops initially as my fastest units for coverage were spawn.

That said, if it was a full spam list I'd be toast if he went first. It's like flying hoard quality of shooting. Even though we can take a lot of hits, it's still a lot of hits.

TSons are well balanced against balanced lists, but don't have enough tools yet to deal with spam. If you go on Dakka much they've got a faction analysis post and TSons are very highly rated in terms of win/loss.

I don't think most armies can handle spam lists this edition, and the ones that can are fighting fire with fire. Its just incredibly easy to build a list around one above average unit.  I'm hoping that as major tournaments happen that they will put an emphasis on troops in their missions, or tell people that they have to take two detachments which have to be different.

Any advice for taking out Rhinos and other transports? I faced against Space wolves, it was a close good game, and the Scarab occult did well (being charged by 20 skyclaws, a wolf priest and 3 blood claws and only losing 4 out of 9 over 3 turns whilst wiping out the wolves bar one skyclaw who fled, but I found craking his rhinos took ages, meaning in one case thr rhino was able to charge first, absorbign the overwatch to allow his grey hunters to charge in unshot.

I just struggle to see how we can fit in Rubricae in the numbers needed to leave us the points to take lascannons (I am considering a disco pred maybe).
That said, all is dust makes Rubricae brilliant against the likes of blood claws and grey hunters.

Maulers and CC defilers? At least thats the route im taking

I'm actually going the opposite direction and adding more transports in. Yeah we need las to take care of enemy vehicles, but we're far from the only army that struggles at taking them out. Having rhinos to get us into position, then score objectives, or tar pit the fighty stuff is a pretty solid strategy. Heck you can charge their rhinos repeatly because they can't withdraw and charge. I think with this edition its too easy to over react because of just how different matchups can be.

For example I played against harliquin for the first time this edition, and well it was brutal. Those psycho clowns can hit super hard, and all have 4++ . I'm going to have to think of a new strategy to use next time, but I'm not really going to worry about making changes to army because of it.

My issue with now being able to take a force sword is aall the staffs are right handed and swords, pistols, and empty hands are left handed. If you don't have extra bits (like myself) your stuck with the staff regardless of whether or not you take the sword.

Well with a sharp hobby knife this is absolutely no problem. Just take a staff arm, cut is under and above the hand, do the same with the sword and you got yourself a right handed sword. Or if you dont want to cut the staff just take a right handed chainsword, the raptors come with some of them and replace the chainblade with a forcesword.

Has anyone else entertained the idea of allying in a command detachment of fast (or deepstrike-able) chop suey chaos lords to help provide some close combat punch against fast choppy armies/horde armies? Or are they just not killy enough and outclassed by DP's for the points in this edition to be worth it?

I plan on doing this myself, it is a quick fix.  Still funny that they kitted it that way.  Debating if I want to magnetize stave, sword and hand semantic options.  I have only played a few games so far thought the swords are aces against your 3 and 4 toughness models.

Btw, in case you haven't figured it out yet - we might have the cheapest way to add more command points to our armies out of any list in the game. Most large detachments demand a tax of troop and HQ choices. With the brimstone horrors we have the cheapest troop unit in the game. And a Malefic Lord from the renegades and heretics list is just 30 points. Pretty fluffy to, to have some ephemeral warp creatures around and some corrupted mortal psykers.

I'm planning on picking up some Scarab Occult Termies to convert into Tartaros pattern Chaos Terminators. I'd just use the Tartaros kit, but the lack of trim would make them stand out too much.

From the sprue picks on the GW site, it looks like the guns come in halves so DIY combi-whatevers should be possible. There's a few scarabs visible in the pictures that I will want to cover up. I'm cool with the bird heads on the armor. And I've got melee weapons for swaps. What my biggest concern is, is will I require extensive green stuff work to model them without the crests?

Also do you think if I modeled them like this and painted them as Night Lords, they'd look the part? Or are these guys too inherently Thousand Sons to pass as anything else?

The Tartaros/Scarab Occult combi-bolters are half and half (one with hand) so adjusting them to make a combi-weapon shouldn't be too hard. I cheated and used the MkIV combi-weapon on a TDA hand :tongue.: The crests are basically front plates to the torso piece so you'll be able to remove the "head" pieces quite easily and have them look fine :smile.: The front torso is identical in join on both the SOT and Tartaros plastics so you could mix and match if you wanted.

They have a fair bit of Sons iconography on them, but nothing you couldn't remove with a bit of patience I reckon. I don't think they'd look overly chaotic though especially if you remove the more obvious Sons bits so I think you could use the standard Tartaros kit for much the same look as well? Certainly for Night Lords who are usually a little less spiky and such?

Getting pretty frustrated with fliers and rapiers. Think a Heldrake would help? I might convert one. I really hate the flying reverse T-rex with short goofy stubs for "legs"

I've seen a maulerfiend combo'd with the heldrake kit to look like an actual mechanical dragon, but thats expensive.

I've only found Heldrakes helpful to shut-down powerful shooting targets and forcing them into assault. It'd be nice if a flier couldn't fallback on another flier because they couldn't shake them or something.

So far my answers to fliers have been massed cannon fire from Fiends or Predators or a couple turns of disco Predators. Thankfully, I don't have an excess of flyers in my group.

I'm secretly hoping our codex will come with a fly model like DG got. I'm thinking those planes that got blasted out of the sky on Prospero in the novels, or some kind of marines on discs. It's a nice hope that GW will provide a core CSM option and Cult option for each slot for the factions eventually, it's just a matter of time.

A nice 1000 Sons vehicle would be cool.  I converted a predator and vindicator to a 1000 sons theme.  I am really happy with them though have not painted them.

I plan to start at thread to show my painted termies, converted magnetized exalted sorcerers, converted demon prince (using wings, head and neck of a Reaper brand Vrock), converted tanks.  I am about to start painting my Rubrics.

Though I cannot seem to figure out how to post pics.  Once I do I will post a thread.  Seeing everyone else's work is always so motivating and fun.
