Awesome! Is that 1500? If so we get a lot of stuff for that now.

It actually looks quite similar to what I'll be running when I get going soon! (except I'll probably run DC not SG and a few dreads)

I love plasma Devs, they WILL kill themselves but they are the most fun things ever when they let off a good salvo, need to get my own models up to scratch.

How did you find the Meltacide? Did they drop, slag something then instantly die? Or between them and the pods did they persist and make a nuisance of themselves?

The first meltacide unit dropped in turn one, stripped two hull points off a Gorkanaught and immobalised it. Definitly worth the points as his Mornkanught was usless for the rest of the game and just sat there with line of sight to anything for 5 turns until my Biker Captain droke over and punked it into oblivion.

Then a mob of Ork Boys charged them down and killed them all, but it was totally worth the 130-something points. It also meant that his boys spent a turn moving back into their own deployment so they couldnt advance up the table as quick.

The second unit failed to arrive until turn 4, but they dropped onto my only un-held objective. They didnt kill anything or die, but they were instumental in netting me the "Domination" card for a meaty 5 victory points. I've never seen anyone successfully achieve Domination before so I was pretty happy.

All in all, I would reccomend them wholeheartedly, especially against armies with lots of vehicles / monsters / terminators.

Glad to hear they are performing well for you. In the two games I've used them (admittedly against Eldar with their targets being Wave Serpents... yeah, I know), well... lets just say I'm considering called them "Squad Whiff".

I'm trying to get a few more pods myself.

I figure about 7 is the way to go, so I need 3 more before the end of the year.

I've got a 2,000 point gaem coming up this Wednesday against another Blood Angel player.

I've never played against BA before and I very rarely play over 1,500 points, so I have no idea where to start.

It seems unlikly that my Sicarian will have arrived by then, and as I've never played against this particular person before I dont wnt to be "that guy" and bring one of my Knights.

Are there any formations that work well at 2,000 (preferably not ones involving 3 storm Ravens).

I'm not that fussed about winning, as long as I can have a cool themed / fluffy game I'll be happy.

I know nothing at all about his army. I did'nt know he even collected Blood Angels.

I have seen him playing Space Wolves and Heresy, so I can say first hand that:

  • He isn't a power game, he's always laughing and seems to be ok with taking it easy.
  • His lists (from what I've seen) are usually themed and well balanced
  • He plays mega agressivly, always pushing up feild and getting into stabby-stabby range asap.
  • I've go no restrictions as far as my list goes, aside from not useing the FTSF.
  • I've got most of the non-forgeworld units, so plenty to choose from.
  • The game will be 2,000 points of Maelstrom on a terrain heavy board.

I want something fluffy, I'd like to maybe try the Strike Force Mortalis formation, but I've only got one DC Dread.

Why can't you use the FTSF? Is FW permitted?

Secondary army, plays aggressive. You could expect an alpha strike, tank rush or a jump list. As it's his secondary army I would hazard a guess that he wont have many of the specialist bits and pieces that we have, nor will he have things optimised to the level that we have.

Maelstrom at that level you will need it to be mobile. This was the last 2k I ran and whilst I'm not going to recommend a repeat of the list, it shows what you can squeeze in at that point level.

Captain on a bike, fist, shield, arty armour.

5x Bikes, grav, grav, combi-grav, multimelta attack bike.

Sanguinary Guard, sword, sword, sword, axe, fist

Vindicator

Tac squad, Flamer, Heavy Flamer, Combi-flamer, Rhino

Tac squad, Flamer, Heavy Flamer, Combi-flamer, Rhino

Assault squad, Melta, Melta, duel inferno, droppod.

Assault squad, Melta, Melta, duel inferno, droppod.

Devistators, 4x Plasma cannon.

Take this, toss in a Stormraven (Scouts inside) and maybe a Priest to babysit your Devastators. Perhaps give the Devastators a Drop Pod or squeeze in a third Tactical with a Drop Pod. That way, you've got a decent alpha strike, you've got alpha strike protection and you've got your anti air covered. In all fairness as it's your first time against him you don't want to go nuts, so perhaps just build off the above?

I really, really enjoyed the list I played last night, but when I arranged the game with the Blood Angel Player next week he said "Oh, I play Blood Angles too. My list probably isnt that terrifying though".

I dont think he was being snarky, but I got the feeling that he was hoping to play a bit more casually than my game last night. lol.

I'll check and see if he is taking any flyers, although I love my Storm Raven, its a total nightmare to transport and I dont want to bring flyers if he's not got anything that can hit it.

I've never run a list with all 4 Drop pods, so that could be fun, or I could go full jetpack. I'd be warey about taking a whole load of tanks, especially if he's got a few meltacide squads. :s

I'm seriously considering 3 medium sized units of jump pack Death Company. :D

Ok, so I've settled on a list.

I started by looking at the BA Battle Company, and then moved all the units across into a BSF.

I removed a few units that I dont like / dont have and consolidated the 6 five-man tac squads into 3 regular squads.

Heres what I ended up with:

Battle Company

+ HQ +

Captain [Artificer Armour, Bolt Pistol, Thunder hammer]

Chaplain [bolt Pistol, Crozius Arcanum, Jump pack, Melta bombs]

+ Elites +

Death Company Dreadnought [blood Talons, Magna-grapple, Meltagun and storm bolter] ····Drop Pod [storm Bolter]

Death Company Squad [7x Bolt Pistol, 5x Chainsword, 7x Death Company Marine, Jump Pack, Power Fist, Power Weapon]

Furioso Dreadnought [Magna-grapple]

····Drop Pod [storm Bolter]

····Power Fists [Frag cannon, Heavy flamer]

+ Troops +

Tactical Squad [4x Tactical Marine]

····Razorback [Lascannon & Twin Linked Plasma Gun] ····Tactical Sergeant [bolt Pistol, Chainsword]

Tactical Squad [Flamer, Heavy flamer, Rhino, 9x Tactical Marine] ····Tactical Sergeant [Chainsword, Combi-Flamer]

Tactical Squad [Flamer, Heavy flamer, Rhino, 9x Tactical Marine] ····Tactical Sergeant [Chainsword, Combi-Flamer]

+ Fast Attack +

Assault Squad [4x Assault Marines, 2x Meltagun] ····Assault Sergeant [2x Inferno Pistol] ····Drop Pod [storm Bolter]

Assault Squad [4x Assault Marines, 2x Meltagun] ····Assault Sergeant [2x Inferno Pistol] ····Drop Pod [storm Bolter]

Bike Squad [2x Grav-gun, 2x Space Marine Biker] ····Biker Sergeant [Combi-Grav]

+ Heavy Support +

Baal Predator [Heavy bolters, Twin-linked Assault Cannon]

Devastator Squad [4x Devastator Marine, 4x Plasma cannon] ····Devastator Sergeant [bolt Pistol, Chainsword]

Everything aside from the devs has some kind of transport, so everything is super fast and able to grab objectives.

Its a far cry from a super tweaked powerlist, but its as close to a full Battle Company as I'm able to field and its looks sweet on the table. I've still got quite a few marines and a drop pod to finish before wednesday though. :/

Great thread. I've just read it from start to finish. I usually prefer my fluff grim-dark but your sense of humour is great and I've got a few good chuckles out if it.

Nice to see how your army has been progressing and your collection of painted models grow considerably.

You've even inspired me to try a league at my local club! How did you run yours, did people have to play a minimum number of games in a month? Any deadlines imposed? Any penalties or other restrictions?

D

The sixupsave league was nice and casual. The rules were:

1,000 points of pure fluffy lists.

The lists had to remain the same for every game.

The game types were all Dawn of war deployment, Maelstrom mission 1.

We had 10 people playing and everyone plays everyone else once. That way everyone gets 9 games and it's completely balanced.

People had to arrange their own games (times and dates and stuff) and then posted the results to a Facebook page.

It was a really fun way to cram lots of small fluffy games into a 2 month period.

I played 2 games last night, one against a rival Blood Angel player and a second against a Dark Eldar Pirate band.

I got my first chance to use my beautiful Sicarian, which is one of the best kits I have ever had the pleasure of assembling.

As usual, the first time I put it on the table it got blown up turn 1 by a meltacide unit, but I'm happy to say it was really great in the second game.

It took out a Squad of Jetbikes, a Squad of Hellions, a Viper and took a wound off a Talos Engine.

I lost the BA game (the maelstrom cards were against me, lol) and I won the DE game hands down.

I'll try and get my pics of the WIP Sicarian up asap, but if you are on the fance about getting one, I really couldn't reccomend it enough, its goes together beautifully and looks amazing.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about pimping my ride BA style.

wings on the cannon is a sweet idea, I cant say I relish the idea of forking over £7.50 for three resin BA icons tho. :/

I wonder if the leftover Winged-blooddrop buttons from the drop pod kit would look any good?

I've got some of those saved for a Land Speeder, so I believe that can work. As for the FW bits, they are quite nice considering. I've got some on a Rhino and Razorback.

There's a picture of them on the cannons somewhere on here, but I've only seen it done once. They work on sponsons of all varieties too.

Wow, theres no doubt which chapter owns that Sicarian, thats for sure.

Can't say I care much for the severed SG heads adorning the hull, but the wings and chains compliment the vehicle really well.

I like the dozer-blade at the front, I've seen that on a few tanks now, but I dont recognise the dozer-blade from any specific kit.
