Back down in Falmouth and work has continued.

I moved the Stag horns across to the sergeant after adding the shield to the front to break up the Chaos lookin effect and I think it works ok. Once paint is applied I hope it should work.

I also began work on the second Lieutenant the one with a with power sword

His helmet crest is made up of a couple of dodgy press moulds of the bretonnian bits and still need a bit of work to make it unique and tidy up.

Hopefully that will be done tonight along with a bit more work on the chaos Knight since I have some greenstuff made up in the freezer that needs using up.

I also need to get to a halfords for some white and black spray, I've assembled 3 bretonnian knight Errants and I have plans to use them as a test bed for colour schemes along with seeing how much difference a 3 stage zenthial highlight will make.

So here is everyone so far. I think If I can go into saturday morning with everything undercoated and the basic colour scheme nailed down I should stand a reasonable chance of some serious painting over the weekend.

(Right attempt two to post after accidently closing the tab last night as the laptop was ruined for CPU speed.)

Now I've been intending to use Temple Guard blue for the armour colour shaded down to Dark Reaper and along side this playing around with colour wheels suggests a brown shaded Orange would make an excellent contrast colour.

I wasn't 100% sure how this will work and since I also wanted to try out different undercoats to see how they went.

I started with some Storm paladin Aspirants (ie. bretonian- errant knights) and sprayed one white, one grey and the final one used a zenithal spray of Black-Grey-White.

Now the white didn't go on that great and coverage wasnt brilliant leading to me overdoing it a bit on the knight, the grey when on a bit thick too where as the coverage of multiple stages was excellent.

After this the first colours went on and look something like this.

med_gallery_88567_13346_531241.png

I'm going to try some new techniques on these guys, instead of highlighting up from the darkest colours I want to start bright and shade down (just to see how it goes more than anything else).

AS you can see the grey is much duller than the other two, the white one actually took more coats to stop it being streaky so I've settled on a grey base with a strong white zenithal to bringout the brightness of colour and as the black wasn't adding anything I skipped that stages.

I've spent some time this morning working out a few more bits on the Horses while getting the basecoat down on the first Marine in 2 thin coats.

1st full painted Primaris

med_gallery_88567_13346_1003712.png

Once selected I'll be adding a chapter badge to the shield and an icon to the Left pad, not sure which transfers I'm going for yet though.

Thank you, there was a lot more orange on the horses because I wanted to see the colours side by side. In the end I avoided a half and half scheme and went for something bright but a bit less garish.

Now I've been working on the second guy and have also been toning the first down a touch because I found the edge highlights weren't standing out enough.

So on with the picture.

med_gallery_88567_13346_328469.png

While I have to admit that the knightly helmet crests aren't doing much for me (sorry! :( ), that is a pretty sweet test colour scheme indeed! Very nice!

As for possible decals, what about looking at Bretonnian decal sheets? Seems like a pretty obvious idea, but still...

Thanks Kraut, I'm much happier with the slightly darkened teal and may grab some of the edge paint to really finish it off.
I can understand the knight helmets though for me I keep going back to look at them which is always a good sign and I'm pretty happy so far. The trick will be how to paint them without stretching the pallet to far.  I also have a sheet of Bretonian decals but not really enough, it has a far set to choose from but many of them are sized to a larger shield and are too big for a shoulder pad, also typically I've decided to do this after the range has basically been discontinued. Will have to see what can be done.

If you want fleur-de-lys decals, the 3V Wargames 15mm set works well for Marine shoulder pads. The 25mm ones are ever so slightly too big though, unfortunately. It's only by a fraction of a mm though, so you could order a set of each to experiment.

For what it's worth, I like the headwear.

Thank you the second one is nearly finished but the kids are being annoying at the moment. It's often gone 9 by the time I'm downstairs and they are asleep so I've just not had the energy to get the paints out and then have to tidy it away again less than an hour later.

Im really liking those extreme highlights and im not sure what youve done to the shoulder pads but i like it

the pads are a rough marble effect.
Painted white they get a shade with snakebite leather and while damp still they get the lines added as little 'dabs' which spreads a bit to give the base faint outline. Then building it up in the middle for a stronger colour finer and finer for about 3 coats.

So the kids actually went to sleep before 8 last night and I got downstairs in time to get tidied up and stuff out. So while catching up on two whole episodes of Agents of Shield I finished up the first stage on the remaining 3 squad members and shaded them all with dark reaper.

med_gallery_88567_13346_542158.png

I also checked over the 1st one and tidied up a slight paint splodge so he's now completed

med_gallery_88567_13346_408653.png

and also the second Guys is finished and I photoed him too.

med_gallery_88567_13346_22970.png

Though I just noticed his Gun needs a quick highlight on the details, damn.

Thanks all for the comments.

Beautiful minis! Really loving you colours!

Thank you I really wanted to try something that I've not done before using a bit of colour theory.

Looking good, great highlighting! Hope you'll have more time to paint, looking forward to seeing more.

Same here, managed a little more last night tidying up on of the next guys and base coating the other colours.  Think I need to sort a project box so all I need to set up is the box and daylight lamp. A shorter setup won't put me off so much for half hours painting time. One of the time sinks though is getting the first coat down so I'm considering my options for the rest of the models.

Ohhhh agents of shield! What season?

The primaris are also looking sharp. I definitely like the colors and it reminds me of the classic Gulf livery so bonus points there!

The season we meet Ghost Rider, about 4/5 episodes in now with one more down last night along with a bit more painting hopefully I can do the same again most nights this week.

That chaos knight is beyond inspired. Awesome stuff. Makes me want to embrace the arms of the chaos Gods a little bit.

Do it, chaos is the only way forward and fighting it is futile.

Speaking of which I'll be back in the embrace of the dark gods soon, I fund getting the base down on the last 3 guys to be insanely tedious and also have a week booked off work between the 11th and 15th of September. So the plan is to finish up this squad and go back to the Heart Rippers for the remaining 4 marines there until the week off. At which point I have a number of goals including finalising the work in the loft, sorting my shed and playing with my aluminium furnace and hopefully getting it to a copper melting point, and also having a good sort out of my gaming stuff including getting my airbrush out for some tests and base coating the rest of the primaris to save me many evenings of 2 thin coats covering nearly the whole model...

So like the butterfly I am I've flitted away a little from the Primaris largely becasue the hotter weather has been playing up with my painting, though typically it's cooled off with more rain as I start to sink my teeth into some building. Tonight may see some more work with the paint brush depending on how I feel and get on with the next plan.

I played a couple of games of 8th now and in my last one Abaddon teleported in with a unit of melta terminators and proceeded to wreak the space wolf back line.

Now the Terminators got taken out fairly quickly (after wiping and Pred) so I've reassessed what I have and decided a core of two units (one combi melta and one Plasma), Abaddon and a sorcerer in TDA is the way to go.

Also Abaddon deserves a new upgraded model for killing about 20 space wolves including at least 2 characters (especially as his arms keep falling off.)

med_gallery_88567_11401_567324.png

Along with a bunch of old metal Terminators.

med_gallery_88567_11401_271046.png

These guys came in an Ebay purchase some years ago and it was cool to finally use them. It wasn't till I got them out to play I realised they all had combi meltas, I'm thinking of replacing them with 3 combi melta, 1 CC twin Lightning claws and a last one with heavy flamer.

med_gallery_88567_11401_375614.png

Both these guys and Abaddon could well be lead and not white metal I got them that long ago around the time of their release, I'm going to be using them as spares depending one how they fit with more modern parts.

So the plan is simple, depending on temperature and progress this week on the Primaris I'll be continuing with my work on a unit of terminators and a replacement Abaddon.

I've already started on the Despoiler after my order of the Lord + terminator box set arrived.

med_gallery_88567_11401_563050.png

Clearly the plastic is noticeably bigger and I raided the standard chaos terminator chest piece so that I could fit the old trophy racks in place.

After some chopping and changing I had this sitting on the desk.

med_gallery_88567_11401_387486.png

Not a bad little start. After this and while packing away I dismantled all of the terminators and dropped then into some dettol so as I finished last night I had this.

sml_gallery_88567_11401_160580.png

Plan for tonight is simple.

Clean up all of the old Abaddon before press moulding his belt and a few details with instant mould.

put Green stuff in instant mould ready for tomorrow.

Paint some more on the Primaris.

I'm determined to go into my week off next week in a good starting position for these guys and the rest of the Primaris

I binge watched Agents of Shield just to catch up in their storyline just for the ghost rider season. Imagine my happiness and shock on discovering just how many episodes they have per season that I needed to watch. Got it done though right before ghost rider rolled out.

Nice to see The Despoiler getting an upgrade. Even more excited to see terminators. Trying to work on an Alpha Legion terminator force myself for 8th, among other things, as that unit got awesome. Looking forward to seeing you build more!
