Vairocanum's Projects (9/28/2020 Dark Mechanicus Cultist)

For a first go that definitely captures the feel of the strip. One thing I've discovered in my own sculpting is how to better get sharp edges on greenstuff and this might be a good time to try around the shoulderpad trim and belt, though the softer rounded appearance fits the comic well you've got a few marks there that would benefit from a clean up as well.

I use the tiniest little rolls applied after the layers are fully cured along the edge of trim and then just work them to a sharper edge. Not really that inspiring I know but a bit of playing round with the tiniest little bits to get in the habit of a final clean up can really bring a good but soft piece to something more finished looking.

Still it made me chuckle and would be cool to see some paint on him.

Thanks Mechanist! I did go for the rounder edges on purpose because when I finally get to painting him I wanted to do black edge highlights like the comic so rounder edges would be easier for thicker lines. But you're right that I need to clean up some of the GS work (didn't see a lot of the mistakes till I saw the picture). Your tips on getting sharper edges was very helpful and appreciated, will definitely try out in the future.

Now that is what horus really looks like .

Thanks DSS7! Yep, just a grumpy kid who had his pets flushed down the toilet :biggrin.:.

Hahaha, great sculpt, all hail the Warmaster! I'm honoured to have inspired you to make this, best comical model ever! Also, are the arms and the legs guitar strings glued to stay in that way or are you using something else? He seems to be a little angry about something, I wonder what it could be :tongue.:?

Thanks Traitor! Your work always helps me figure out new ideas for models! The guitar strings actually are just bent carefully with no glue or anything to stay in place. All Horus wanted to do was avenge his pets :teehee:.

Wobbly model was a great strip. That Horus does it proud!

Thanks hushrong! Wobbly model was a really fun read every time, I'm glad you liked Horus!

That Horus sculpt is ace!

Thanks AndyNoMore! He was really fun to build, I might do a space marine in Wobbly Model style too someday.

Yes! I loved WMS so much, was really bummed when it stopped.

Thanks sockwithaticket! Totally agreed, the end of Wobbly Model Syndrome bummed me out too, each comic being a self contained story was great.

aaaaw that horus is ace man! great solution to the stick drawing arms n legs! :biggrin.:

Thanks PeaceCraft! Glad you like Horus, I thought the guitar wire would be a good thickness for the arms and legs compared to the comic strip.

Nothing really major this week. I wanted to practice some more sculpting so I made this Deadpool (or CHOOMpool). I've seen some people do marvel characters made with space marines so I decided to try and make one of my favorite characters as well. I opted to leave the Inquisitorial icons because in my mind he just flat out stole the armor and would lie and say it was a gift. I chose to give him volkite cause he'd probably enjoy saying choom like he does chimichangas. I'm not 100% satisfied with his head but this was the best I could do right now (might try again when I improve more on sculpting). Unrelated but I think I've finally figured out a good base model for my servitor for INQ28, hopefully will finish him by next week. Thanks for looking and C&C is appreciated!

He looks good, though maybe the eyes are too far appart. I had seen a Vindicare Deadpool, but never an astartes one, very interesting conversion!

Thanks Traitor! You're right about the eyes, I wanted to leave space for the nose but they ended up too apart. Will definitely pay attention when working on version 2. Vindicare Deadpool certainly looks closer to the real thing :biggrin.:.

Me likely! Off the bat I think your sculpting is great. I think it would look even better if the head was a bit smaller and you flatten the part around his eyes. All in all though it's great.

Thanks hushrong! I hadn't noticed the size of the head till I was done sculpting, definitely need to go smaller for version 2. As for the eyes, I was sculpting based off of the Deadpool DVD cover so that's why parts of the eyes are raised.

This week I completed my heavy servitor for the INQ28 warband. Figuring out what base model to use kept me from completing the model for a long time. I knew I wanted a bigger servitor with double multimeltas but going through several base models (ogryn->bullgor->slaughterpriest->AoBR Warboss) I finally settled on using Ghazghkull Thraka's body. Ghazghkull has been sitting in my bits box for years now after my friend quit and gave me the stuff he was unable to sell, so I'm pleased I was finally able to use it. The body is pretty much stock except for the front and arms. The arms are done similar to the style of warjacks in Warmachine. The idea behind this servitor is that in the current form it's like Ironman in the Hulkbuster suit and can be interfaced with different bodies depending on the situation. I'm also working on his "usual form" which will be a simple conversion on the standard servitor model. Thanks for looking and C&C is appreciated!

He looks great, kind of a mini-dreadnought! Also can't wait for its usual form, servitor conversions are always either amazing or pretty dull, and judging by the first one I would say that you're more on the amazing side !

Thanks Traitor! It's a dreadnought where you don't have to be half dead to pilot haha. Thanks for the high praise, choosing a base model took a long time so I'm glad it turned out fine.

That is a scary bastard with a lot of melta.

Thanks hushrong! You can never have too much melta :teehee:.

hahaha love the ork usage for the servitor. we know deep down inside where his heart lies :biggrin.:

Thanks PeaceCraft! I didn't think to use an ork model at first but realized that the body could pass as imperial with some slight alterations. Orks loot everything anyways, so why not "counter-loot" .

I'm impressed with the details you added to the Captain, e.g., the molecular bonding studs on his greaves, and the sling on his bolter.

Thanks Bjorn Firewalker! I'm very pleased with the sling myself. Figuring out what bits to use always takes me the most time so I'm glad you like it.

That servitor looks amazing, mate. Love the sculpted head. Well done!

Can we get some more shots, from different angles?

Thanks Augustus! I wish I could take credit for sculpting the head, but I actually only did the hood, and the body was from a press mold. I've included some new pics below.

So this week I finished the unarmored mode of the heavy servitor. He is loosely based off of a certain Yu Gi Oh card if anyone can guess :whistling:. In my mind for his fluff, his limbs can be unplugged and connected to the heavy servitor armor when needed. I wanted to give him a close combat arm so I settled on an ork buzz saw. The tabard thing was a press mold of an old CSM backpack, still need to smooth out the GS in some places but he's done for now. As for the heavy servitor, I made some slight changes. I added more cables on the arms and made it so that the front armor can be removed to see the standard servitor inside. I was originally going to add a jokaero to this warband too but when dry fitting parts I came up with an idea to make it look more nightmarish so I'll have him as a part of a chaos warband lead by a Dark Mechanicus magos instead. I've also included a group shot of the Inqusitor's warband all together. Thanks for looking and C&C is appreciated!

Excellent work on the combat servitors.

Thanks Bjorn! Deciding what bits to use was tough cause there were so many weapons I wanted to use, but couldn't because of how cluttered the model would have become :biggrin.:.

Fantastic work indeed. They need paint.

Thanks Augustus! I have no excuse, definitely guilty. I will start replacing more of my paints soon so I can get back into painting (the lure of new plastic is strong though :teehee:).

I have to second thebneed for some paint but thats on impressive warband there.

Thanks Mechanist! I'm really happy with how the warband turned out given that I don't usually convert anything non-power armored :tongue.:. I'll definitely try to paint some more models soon. Only have painted a single model so far this year, I need to try and up that number soon.

Great work, the press molded piece of the backpack as a tabard is a brilliant idea!

Thanks Traitor! The waist area was looking a little empty so I experimented with a few parts and the press molded backpack looked the best :happy.:.

I think I'll count the rest of the month as Artscale-April, so more true scale stuff coming this month. So with the updated Death Guard stuff coming I figured it was time to plan ahead for my existing models. I've decided not to work on the bulk of my existing models until some better pics come out of the new models because I want them to fit in better with the new models. I'm assuming they are going to come out with a new Typhus model as well since both Kh Edited by Vairocanum

Wow, he's HUGE! Typhus has never been one of my favourite models appart from the scythe, but you surely have done him justice! He looks quite menacing and, with that height, he could fight toe to toe even against a primarch (unless daemonified like Magnus :P). Really awesome start for your Death Guard, can't wait to see more chaos from you!
