Evening all!

So I decided to take a break from my Chaos endeavours and return to the first army I ever had, and the reason for me pursuing this hobby, Blood Angels. This was back in second edition with the Blood Angels sergeant on the box cover:

I decided to do the second company under Captain Aphael with a few elements from other areas of the chapter. Starting with a Tactical Squad and a kitbashed Captain Aphael, although I did decide to give him a helmet:

He needs a few finishing touches but am fairly pleased with how he turned out. The spare parts I am using to make a Sanguinary Priest which should be ready for WIP pictures quite soon. I also managed to get a couple of Tactical Squad guys done:

As always C&C is very much welcome and I will be continuing with my Chaos soon :)

Those look absolutely brilliant! I saw the wip on instagram and wasn't expecting to see them painted so soon. Love the classic red color you've done, really nice basing too. Seeing these definitely made my day, looking forward to seeing more Blood Angels from you!

Awww, that awakens fond memories.Aphael looms really cool. Can I ask where his arms are from (underarms looks way too interesting to not ask)

Been watching these with great interest over on insta buddy. They’re looking great, I’ve always had a love for the Blood Angels

Thanks mate, they are my first love :D. I am just finishing up the fourth and fifth members of the Tactical Squad and while waiting for washes to dry am building the last five members.

Looking good! The red looks fantastic!

Thanks hushrong, pleased you like them!

Thanks Vairocanum, I try and work fast when I have the time to paint. The red is really very simple. I spray with Mephiston Red spray and then from above with Army Painter's Pure Red, recess wash of Nuln Oil and highlights of Evil Sunz Scarlet and Wild Rider Red. More coming soon!

Thanks Mikhal, The arms are actually from the Ravenwing Command Squad. They are a set of arms which one has a handle bar attached. I just cut it off at the hand and didn't need any other reposing :)

Lovin' it Buddy - now we need to work on learning rules and a tactic and enter battle brothers

Angels of Death - UNITE!!!

Thanks Raz, now that sounds like fun! I better get to working a bit faster :D

More coming soon and thanks for the comments.

Evening,

I have finished building a Sanguinary Priest for my Blood Angels. This guy used the left over leg parts from Aphael (waste nothing!) and then some parts from the plastic robed Priest and the Tactical Squad kit. I don't particularly like the idea of BA wearing robes, such things should be left to the Dark Angels, so I decided to buy it anyway and use the Narthecium and backpack from it:

med_gallery_74887_13813_874406.png

Pretty pleased with him - I may change the head to a bare head and run him as Corbulo because I feel he is a little reminiscent of his model. As always let me know your thoughts :)

Nemac

The priest looks good and I think the pose works well. A bare head would be a bad idea. Do you have any ideas on which to use?

As for robes, aside from the entirety of the DA, I think they look good on certain officers like librarians, chaplains, and fancy leaders. I always thought an apothecary would avoid it because it would get messy quick haha. When your job is to always be knee deep in the wounded and dying that thing is going to be a mess quick.

Thanks guys. I am not a massive fan of bare heads and often struggle to make them look realistic. On that note I will probably run him as Corbulo but with a helmet, though perhaps a more ornate helmet is in order for the chief sanguinary priest.

I have also finished the first five members of the tactical squad and re-based Aphael. I wasn't happy with the dead legionnaire on the base so quickly mocked up a new base to fit in with the others. I have two tactical squads but decided to build one as a five strong assault squad and a five strong devastator unit. I can then bulk them out with some of my older Blood Angels models after they have been stripped of paint.

Pictures will follow either tonight or tomorrow morning. Thanks again for the comments!

Morning all!

I have finished the first five members of my Tactical Squad. You will have to excuse the terrible picture, I am in a bit of a rush but will try and get some better shots at some point:

I am now starting to clean and prep the second bunch of Tactical Marines, four line troops and a heavy weapon specialist with heavy flamer. I am also cleaning and magnetising the Baal Predator. Turret is done and I think I can do the sponsons without using any magnets which would be a bonus :).

As always let me know what you think!

  • 3 weeks later...

Morning all!

I haven't had much time for hobbies over the last couple of weeks, mainly due to a holiday but have now managed to get a few things done/started, ready to share with you all. The first is the heavy flamer for my Tactical Squad:

med_gallery_74887_13813_587866.png

Not a lot else to say on that, He is a generic marine :). The second is that I have started to assemble my first Assault Squad. Three of these use the body from Antor Delassario, the Blood Angel in the Deathwatch Overkill box. I have removed the arms on two of them and replaced all three heads:

gallery_74887_13813_291951.png

The difficulty I had with these was mainly due to trying to get three unique models using the same model as a base - I have removed the little bit of scenery from two of their feet and then pinned them to parts from the Assault Squad kit. This way they aren't all at the same angle. Lastly I have tacked on a jump pack for my Sanguinary Priest and changed the rocks he was standing on to the little steps, again from the Assault Squad kit. I will probably try and magnetise the backpack so I can switch it to and from the jump pack.

That is all for today folks. As always C&C is very much welcome.

Nemac

Thanks Bio, I'm pleased they worked out that way then :). The red is really simple, I spray with Mephiston red and then use army painters pure red spray from above and then highlight with evil sunz scarlet and wild rider red.

I only have three tactical marines left to paint and then I'll be working on the Baal predator I think or maybe finish the assault squad for two troop choices.

Nemac

Thanks guys :). With the assault squad I plan to paint some of the details differently on them just to make them a little more individual. Things like wings on the greaves of the sergeant will have a gold trim when the others will have black instead.

Should be able to post an update soon (ish).

Nemac

Looking good, but then again your Night Lords and Death Guard are to, so your high quality standard is maintained ;)

I find myself with a spare plague drone and bloat-drone. Would it be Okay to copy your earlier monster? I fancy using one as a sort of Giant Chaos Spawn from Index: Forces of Chaos (I'll probably make it longer, may leave wings off for a sort of daemon engine maggoty-millipede thing).

Morning all,

I have started work on my Honour Guard for Captain Aphael during the little hobby time I have been able to get lately. First is the Company Ancient, I have spent some time sanding down all the first company details from the banner that comes with the BA Terminators set and then adding in the details of the second company:

gallery_74887_13813_517169.png

The greenstuff on the claw holding the cup and the cup itself aren't finished quite yet but it is slowly taking shape. Secondly I have a company Champion to show with storm shield and power sword, I am very pleased with this guy, although you cannot see it in the picture I have used the spare arm from one of the heavy weapons in the BA tactical kit so that he has cables running to his shield:

gallery_74887_13813_147454.png

Both models still need a lot of cleaning to removes mould lines and probably won't be painted until after the last two tactical marines. As always please let me know what you think, C&C is very much welcome!

Nemac

Thanks guys :),

I used a press mould of the chalice from the BA upgrade sprue for the one on the banner and then did the hand afterwards. Biggest pain was the sanding to be honest.

@Dosjetka - thanks, I am very pleased with the pose on the champion, I just need a hand for behind the shield as all the hands I have are for he left side.

@hushrong - thanks, I tried to model the pose off the primaris ancient, pleased you like the banner!

I should have some more to show soon, I have just had a delivery of biostrip 20 so am stripping down a ton of bits to reuse on this army - this stuff is amazing :D
