Painted up a test model for my future dark angels legion. I had plastic cataphractii preator I was going to use for SoH but I felt like he didn't fit, so I decided to do a test mini while I wait for Florida humidity to drop ro where I can safely matte varnish my SoH I recently messed up.

He looks ok I think. It's not an amazing paint job, only sunk like 2 hours in. I think I need to figure out a way to break the black up a bit. He's supposed to look weathered, but not sure he doesn't just look a bit dirty.

@SkimaskMohawk Coming on really nicely!

@BitsHammer Those trophies look ace, nice tip! Phenomenal work on the Praetor too, completely changed that model!

@Iron Hands Fanatic Very nice work on the Deliverer, cool to see it coming together from design to real build.

I've been working on a Kratos, decided to build it in sub-assemblies so that I can access all the nooks and crannies. All primed now and ready for paint.

I've ended up trying the cloak method. I'm trying to make my WB kinda zaelous monk, this will be the sergeant for the breachers :) (Decolorized from an ebay auction that ended up being "not really FW")

Thanks for the quick tip!

I've been thinking about trying VMS paper shaper for capes, but that might be too ambitious.

For the curious: https://www.vms-supplies.com/vms-paper-shaper

Well that's very interesting. I would definitely give that a go on scenery. I get the hesitancy though, it would take me a lot of experimenting before I was confident enough to try a cape.

Picked up a Hardback copy of "The Wolf King" and "Wolfsbane".

Looking forward to digging into them and hopefully seeing Russ come to terms with what he was manipulated into doing, would love to see some regret for what came to pass between himself and Magnus.

Something tells me I won't get that though so I'll have to headcanon it as his internal struggle.

Haha I think you had them from me end of last week? Hope they got there okay, look forward to seeing what minis inspire you from them :-)

I think so!

And sadly I'm still in a bit of a rut atm. Loads of plans but actually getting round to making/painting is difficult.

However, quick question for the group. Has anyone seen if the plastic Deimos top hatch is the same size as the plastic Mars pattern Rhino? I've managed to source some Damocles Command Rhino bits and I'm interested in trying to use them with a fully plastic Deimos but don't have any yet.

right, not pictured but all these are now based so I'm just waiting for a decent time to prime them

might as well finish off the 5 remaining scouts I have primed in the meantime

For you Iron Warriors commanders out there, how do you do the shoulder pads of your tactical squads? I've done a test model with hazard stripes on the left shoulder pad, and even though I've airbrushed it, I'm not sure if I want to do all of my tactical squads in that manner. It's a bit time consuming to mask everything.

IHF, my favourite thing about you is that you test a concept and a few days later have a army inspired around that.

hehe thank you

funnily enough though they were part of the same building spree, the deliverers were the penultimate unit of these I put together (before the bikers), but after this pic was taken I subsequently went back and distributed a bunch of parts from the corvus cabal kit I'd used for them across the minis to try and get a little of that flavour across the force

I found it easiest to just freehand once you get a good angle. There's going to be clean up, but I think it saves a lot of time compared to applying the tape and peeling it and all that.

The micron pins work well for me to draw the lines, then paint in yellow, and paint in black, cleaning up the yellow that went over the lines. It will be seen from 3 feet away on the table, does not need to be perfect.

I don't think painting by hand, even with using tool like micron pens, saves me any more time over masking and airbrushing. I think I'm going to try the black. It appears that IW emphasized uniformity across it's personnel, I'll consider black to be a standardization across the formations of my army.

I did black shoulder pads and hazard stripes randomly about the models - shins, forearms, chest plates. Different on every one.

I just paint the whole panel yellow and then free hand in the black stripes. Not too painful.

I had a delivery of stuff on Tuesday last week. Got two Deimos rhinos, Sicaran battle tank, Leviathan siege dreadnought with claw and drills, heavy weapon upgrades (missile launchers and heavy bolters) and the special weapons upgrades. I also picked up the Imperial Fists and Ultramarines decals as I'm not sure which legion I want to build but its definitely one of those two. Only thing I think I'm missing will be a primarch but until decide what legion I want to play as, there's no point buying one yet.
