Personally I think Ultramarines have loads of character. They have the Roman vibe but more than that, they are professional soldiers. ...not maniacs, not vampires, not emo Goths, not werewolves.... They defend the Imperium with a calm, professional, manner without relying on a gimmick. ....the fact that idiots hate them just adds to the appeal. It's why I started playing them all those years ago. I find it incredibly amusing that people hate toys based on their colour, fluff, etc. ...I mean, who wants to go with the crowd? However, if I had to choose a successor, I'd go with the Silver Skulls. Easy colour scheme, neat fluff.

Plastic Guilliman V Resin Guilliman

I prefer the FW one. The weird half formed wings on the back of the other makes him look like a fledgling. -
Actually, Ultramarines and Space Wolves get along well in the fluff (they were at the forefront of the Scouring and worked together to stabilise the Imperium after the Heresy). Ultramarines (or any codex marines) could be a good match for wolves. You have the aggressive close combat element with a strong fire base. It does, however, depend on your play style i.e. What's the point of the ally? Is there anything they can offer that your main army can't? Wolves can do pretty much everything you need them to, so why ally with another marine army? If you want cheap bodies and firepower perhaps you should ally with Guard? Or even, possibly, Mechanicus? I just don't really see the point of allied marine armies because they can all more or less do the same things and are equally expensive in terms of points. I'd either keep a straight Wolves army or ally with ad mech or guard if it were me. If you're insistent on a marine ally I'd suggest codex marines and go scout heavy, perhaps using Telion.

I really prefer Tigurius as my first HQ. Guilleman, Tigurius and Chronus as my go to command. I find that Tigurius' psychic powers and defence to be very solid, particularly where they back up Guilleman.

In any case, as far as I'm aware, Chronus is an HQ(?). If this is still true then he is a cheap 2nd HQ.

Opinions on Colour scheme and other stuff.
Schultzhoffen replied to The Wolfguard's topic in + ULTRAMARINES +
I'd take assault cannon Razorbacks vs orkz for sure. At least 3. You need the mobility and protection of the vehicles. Foots logging marines will struggle unless you're just going to stand in a gun line. In which case you should strongly consider Guilleman for his buffs. I'd highly recommend a storm raven ( fill with whatever you like) or a land raider crusader. A captain on a bike is a cheap HQ if you want to save points. Consider an ironclad with a heavy flamer. Predator tanks will also be useful. Devastations with missile launchers are also good. The colour scheme is entirely to taste. I prefer proper Ultramarines or one of their official successors ( there are lots to suit your taste - look around. Silver skulls have an easy paint scheme - silvery metallics and nuln oil wash = done). -
That's ridiculously wonderful.

Firstly, anyone who "hates" you for playing with blue toys as opposed to red, green or grey toys is a moron. Ignore them or just laugh at their stupidity ( let's be honest, they probably need to get a life). Ultramarines seem reasonably strong but at one time (even now) wolves, both flavours of angels and grey knights were far more powerful. I'd also ignore cries of "cheese". What a stupid thing to say...especially in an environment of eldar, riptides, thunder wolf cavalry, etc, etc. every army has their strong units, more so in 8th. Play the army you want, play the units you want...and smile as you crush your enemies and hear the Lamentations of their women... -
Don't bother. They have virtually no special rules and (to me) sternguard are much better.

Alpharius Omegon... Does anyone else hate this?
Schultzhoffen replied to Kaldoth's topic in + HERETIC ASTARTES +
Clearly there are some, well, silly things about the Alpha Legion. In some ways they are Pythonesque. However, they are (to me) the epitome of a Tzeentch force that are not actually Thousand Sons with their "plans within plans" hilarity. They are also deliciously insane. ...along with the rest of the Galaxy...
