    XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

    Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    Jagieŀŀo inspects their prizes

    By GSCUprising

The Resistance have finally captured the war machines they believe they require to make their stand.   Brutus, the Malcador, reliable, dependable the spine of their battleline. She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. Square Pants Bob

    By Bouargh

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

Solar Auxilia Leman Russ

I couldn't resist picking up the new Solar Auxilia Leman Russ when it came out in plastic (plus I will be able to see how compatible the Anvil Gothic Void heads are with SA plastic bodies):      It is a bit further along than this but I don't have any photos.    I really like the build experience so far, everything slots together so neatly which is nice. I will be making this one a Vanquisher but will also magnetise the hull weapons for a bit of flexibility.

Iron Hands Tanks

I have finished off painting the Land raider phobos for my Cataphractii Terminators:    I have also made a start on the Sicaran Battle Tank:    Once these are done, I will move onto the Predator and the remaining Rhino before tackling the infantry (some of whom are fully painted).

Kit bashing and gap filling

Had a few peaks and valleys in the Khromeboys project since the last post. Started in on modding the rest of da boyz. 5 models for the compendium team are in their vanilla configurations with no kit-bashing, but the rest are all proppa kustom. I wanted my Felgores proxies to be easily identified WYSIWYG comparisons to their beastmen counterparts, fortunately since the majority of them are some version of "melee weapon and pistol" its an achievable goal. I didn't take great photos during the whol

Land Raider Progress

I have managed to get some painting done and the Land Raider for my Cataphractii terminators is done (at least for the moment while I move on to more pressing pieces of the pile of shame):

53rd Army Group

I have bits of background for my Imperial Guard project scattered throughout my WIP thread in the barracks so I figured I should put it all in one place; so here goes:    Army group numerical designation: 53 Officer Commanding: Lord General Matthias Fischer Commissariat supervision: Lord Commissars Bane and Helgen. Operational Strength: Less than 1%   Composite Units: Cadian 1st Infantry Regiment "The Sentinels" Cadian 223rd Artillery Regiment

Primaris Champion

I finally got around to assembling the Primaris Champion I picked up when it went MTO:      This was a very easy assembly as the model is push fit, I only needed plastic glue for where the two right arm parts meet. I'm not really playing 40k at the moment so this is more just a painting project and collection piece.

Another Sentinel

I have begun work on a second sentinel for the militia, this one will also have a converted multimelta:      In terms of aesthetics I actually prefer the look of this one for heresy than the old sentinel, I'm not really sure why it just feels more appropriate for militia.

Senior Officer

I have completed building the mini for Lord General Matthias Fischer, the commander of the 53rd Army Group:   Parts wise he is mostly the standard Castellan with the sheathed power sword from the Cadian Command Squad and the addition of a patrician cloak from Anvil Industry's regiments range. I just need to decide on a paint scheme and build a command squad to accompany him (possibly based on the rogue trader voidsmen).

Which Company for my Bladeguard - help me choose!

Call to Arms has started, and I'm going to paint a squad of Aggressors for it  But at the same time, I'm painting three Bladeguard Veterans; I'll chip away at these in the background, aiming to have them done by the end of the year.      In the meantime, I'm mulling over which Company these Veterans are going to be from  They're intended to go with the Boarding Patrol I've already completed, which is from the 4th Company. I had originally intended that these would be from th

Scope Creep

I'm headed to Nova in a couple of months, and wanted something new to bring to the tournament. I'm exclusively a kill-team player these days (if you haven't checked it out, do yourself a favor), and Nova is holding a compendium-only tournament which sounds like a blast. Compendium teams are the original, essentially underpowered/beginner teams that launched with KT2.0/KT21, and are almost all teams made up of models you likely already have if you play 40k. I decided this was a perfect opportunit

Baneblade Completion

I have finally managed to finish off the Baneblade for the militia.   In the end there weren't as many gaps as anticipated and it was overall pretty painless after the side scaffolding was done.

Brothers of the Mark - Slaughter Class Cruiser - Test Model

BROTHERS OF THE MARK SLAUGHTER CLASS CRUISER - ROLL THE BONES   Festooned with lance and gun batteries, ready to roam the flanks and prey on the weak and vulnerable.   After years of yearning, I've finally started work on my first BFG fleet! It turns out the local BFG community is surprisingly large and active, and possesses a number of very eager 3D printers, happy to print whole fleets for the coast of materials just to help a newcomer like myself get started. MAY - The calm before the potential (TINY) storm

May has been a relatively quiet month.   I type that realising that it's not exactly a captivating opening to a blog entry and I'm likely to lose many readers immediately. But it is kind of the truth in the context of what this blog is about. The first 4 months of the year have seen fairly gaudy numbers of models in and out of the pile of shame whilst May has seen pretty modest values on both sides. For various reasons (which I will expand on below - oooo what a tease please keep readi

The Aurora

This ship was something of an exercise in perseverance through frustration. Initially this ship was going to be an included, but removable, portion of the display board itself. I had designed a tray which incorporated the base of the ship into a corner of the board, serving as both base for the ship and a transfer tray for the kill-team. I had an IOU 3D print from a kid in my local Kill Team group that I called in to get this ship made, and received assurances that it was an easy print, and I wo

Preparing to go on a Crusade

I’ve completed a Boarding Patrol of my Ashen Sentinels, and once I’ve painted Bladeguard Veterans and Aggressors (next on my painting desk), I’ll have some flexibility as to what I can take for playing that game mode. But the next ‘phase’ of this army is doing a ‘standard’ 2,000 points worth of models. Rather than repeat what I’ve already done, I’ll be painting a different selection of Primaris miniatures and models – and as I do so, I’ll be using them in an ongoing narrative-driven campaign wit

Tau expansion.

I've spent a fair bit of time hobbying recently and made some relatively good progress, the main idea was to try and clear the decks ready for the big expansion of my tau army following the release of the new codex and models. I spent most of the previous 2 weeks building , basing and priming the models with the aim of having these ready for the Call to Arms 2024 event on here and as you can see from the image below, I'm pretty much ready to go.      Ready to paint are:

Introducing the Kids to 40k- a summer project - Preview

A while back my Fiancée was shopping at Target and asked me if I wanted anything. I told her the The Space Marine Board Game. She did pick it up for me.        Not being a Tyranid Player or an Ultramarine player this was an enh purchase for my armies but as an introduction to 40k for my fiancée's adopted sons and my future (step) sons (11, 10, 9, and 8) it felt it would be perfect.  I can build in paint Capt. Titus, the kids can build and paint the Tyranids and then we can pl

What do you mean I'm a third done

Due to being off work a week for surgery I've caught up on some modeling      Somewhat depressingly the infantry here are less than a third of the total in my 3000pt list aha.   I'm now off to lazily build 7 whole stormcast models over a weekend

White Scars Kill-Team and Board

Another slow day at work, another blog post to archive a previous project.  When the Strike Force Justinian Kill Team was announced/revealed I got to work on a conversion. The stock models are fine, but I'm not a big fan of the Ultramarines and didn't feel like shelling out cash when I had most of the models/bits on hand. The one exception I made was for the captain, because I needed both a powerfist/plasma pistol...and white-scars bits to accompany the upgrade kit I'd picked up ages ago on a
