From the album: Nerdy's Army
My first squad of Astra Militarium. Theres some slight differences between the models, as I was trying out different things, but I think it's fine for now. I might add some stencils to them later.-

From the album: Nerdy's Army
I saved the Seargent for last. After painting with the color scheme a few times, I felt a bit more confident, and decided to try out edge highlighting instead of dry brushing. It's my first go at edge highlighting, and I think it turned out decent. Still not great, but it's something. I should get a better brush for this though. -

My next six guardsmen were assembly painted, and I finished them up with a heavy dose of dry brushing with white. Not sure it's the best choice, but it gives them a sort of dusty look. I guess it's fine. -
First three painted guardsmen

My first three guardsmen. I tried a few different things. The dark ones look great in the pictures, but in real life the lighter grey ones were much more pleasing. So that informed my next six guardsmen. -

Originally, I had started this army....well, lord knows how long ago. In fact its been through several incarnations. During the last Edition of 40K it was allies for my Chaos army. Since the new edition broke, frankly its been collecting dust while I work on other things and figure out what I want to do with it. But, what can we do but sell all our crap(for pennies on the dollar) or soldier on. The army is a nurgly/creepy fallen army of Chaos, SO..in light of that. I'll start by showing some pics of what I have in progress and we'll get the old ball rolling again First off, the sentinals..as they stand, in progress these days. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_iRNVo1idHM/UVPpTicceTI/AAAAAAAABI0/zvAEx5i4Qwg/s1600/SentPIP01.jpg There is one more with the same progress. The Leman Russes are next. There are 4. 2 have magnetized main guns. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xSHUdBYPDNE/UW8c6eQD2OI/AAAAAAAABJs/tb-PYzqqrNs/s1600/TurretsPip03.jpg Here's a shot of one of my Exterminator. Still need to be dirtied up/weathered and detailed. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yc5Dg0P0_gc/UW8eLl4XxhI/AAAAAAAABJ0/o4ntBBIitB8/s1600/TankPip05.jpg Here's 3 of the hulls after Phase 1 of the weahering (basically a bunch o' drybrushing) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ebgvI-b5NKg/Uckn7aklRXI/AAAAAAAABOQ/JzuBhsTDFB4/s1600/tankengines.jpg And their Turrets.... in Progress. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SopiFe0oq9w/UcknKxIwlvI/AAAAAAAABOE/N159MSK3t58/s1600/Tankturrets01.jpg The only thing really finished for this army is one Command Squad..... (with Straken stand-in) http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iSyItWoZpAY/UJDJBYprQ6I/AAAAAAAAAwg/wAXBCc32NYE/s1600/CommSquadDone01.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EbJ9GZX3nvY/UJDI_QARX_I/AAAAAAAAAwY/UiusJIzonBE/s1600/CommSquadDone02.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gPIsPRh8y4s/UJDJ9YXb_pI/AAAAAAAAAwo/MsIgvwzlP_w/s1600/CommSquadExtras.jpg And an OLD unit of veterans I converted years ago and gave a new paintjob.... http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qcQdXwenrgE/UJDHX5T9NNI/AAAAAAAAAwQ/okT1LV-gveM/s1600/Vetsquaddone.jpg I DO have painted Chaos cultists which will find their way into the army. I used to use then as Penal Squads, but they don't exist anymore. I've got plenty of models... just need to get them finished. I'll post some background and other fun stuff next. Let me know what you think of them so far.

Hello fellow Brothers, So first things first, I am completly new to this forum and the game, ergo I dont know any of the basic rules yet (watched some Battle Reports though). I started with a "Start Collecting" Edition from the Blood Angels, an Adeptus Astartes Codex from the 8th Editon and a Death Company Kit (plus Colours for the Blood Angels, a normal and a fine detail brush and some Citadel Pallets.) So this is where my struggle starts: After looking at some Death Korps of Krieg miniatures, I realy got into them until i saw their price on FW ( which is way to expensive for me), but they got me into the Cadian Troops and the Astra Militarium in General. So now to my questions. 1. What should I consider when starting my army? I wanted to start with the "Start collecting" Edition of the Astra Militarium and some artillery (if there is anything cheaper then a Basilisk). I dont want to spent 100€+ for an army, I just want a small force to get into the game and learn the rules. 2. I really like the Catachan Jungle Troops, could I use them in my Cadian army? 3. Yesterday I watched our Lord and Saviour of the thinned paints, Duncan, on Warhammer TV painting some Cadian Shock Troops. From what I saw it looked fairly easier then painting my Blood Angels, which came out pretty ok, but not nearly as good as shown on their packings (feels bad man). Are Cadian Troops easier to paint for a beginner like me? 4. I wanted to focus my army on artillery and entrenchment, is it possible in the Tabletop to play like that and build entrenchments for my troops? Because I really like the thought of the enemy charging into my lines after getting ripped apart by my artillery and my guardsmen wiping the rest of his army. Can you build/place fortifications like trenches and sandbags on the field? 5. Which basic paints do I need to make my army look decent? I dont want to spent over 35€+ for paint I am not really using (like I did with Blood Angels) beause my Highlighting looks awful. I just want a decent looking army, not something you could put into a museum ( If you know what I mean). 6. Any other tips for a newbie in the ranks of the Hammer of the Emperor? If this topic is placed in the wrong section, please excuse my heresy and feel free to move it into the right section. The Emperor protects! Marius Septimus

Newer AM player here. Got in very late in 7th, but really didn't play too much. Like many, I was aiming to run a mech guard list with veterans as the backbone. With their movement to Elites and the removal of doctrines, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to run my lads. We have the traditional options: Meltacide in Valkyrie or Chimera Demo Vets in Valkyrie Plasma Vets with Carapace in Chimera Sniper vets with an Auto cannon and camocloaks (for objective holding) Are any of these builds still viable? I'm sensing that they can still be good in a Valkyrie with Melta and shotguns. Still a suicide squad, but effective. Thoughts? How are you guys going to be running Veterans?
