Looking for opinions. Is it better to bring Cultists or Daemon detachments with Bloodletters? I've been using max sized units of each in games to great effect. Because they both rely on Stratagems, you can't really use them together effectively. I'm starting to wonder what downsides I'm not seeing. The Cultists are great strategically, Tide of Traitors lets them walk onto an objective in the 4th or 5th turn at full strength and opponents can't do much about it. Just standing around has won me a lot of games. The Bloodletters are great offensively, Denziens of the Warp allows them to reliably clear out any area on the board. They do well against every type of opponent, with 60 AP -3 attacks on the charge. Obviously, morale has a significant affect on each unit and neither one has a really great save. If you had to make a choice, which would you pick?

Howdy all, So I was looking through all the cultist sprues that I had and I noticed that none of them came with the heavy stubber or the cultist flamers. I remember seeing the models before but I don't know where I can find them now. Is there a source to buy cultists with special weapons that isn't ebay? I'd like to be able to buy several of these guys and I'd appreciate having a reliable source of them. Thanks a lot.

Hello fellow heretics, rebels and traitors! http://imageshack.com/a/img923/7591/3sosv5.jpg The Renegade&Heretic faction is one of the coolest aspects of this entire game, and I see people all over making really awesome conversions and paint schemes for their armies of the damned. So I thought it would be a good thing to have an area where we could gather inspirational pictures (and fluff if you'd like) from fantastic builders and painters. Here is a link to the 2014 favorites gallery, which is now no longer pinned: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301648-frater-2014-favourites-gallery/ I'll just make a list of links to some very inspirational pages. Uveron's Black Crusade KrautScientist's Eternal Hunt Happy hobbying boys and girls, and keep the images and suggestions coming!

Hi everyone. I've been a 40k fan since 1987 and have normally stuck with modelling Space Marines ( I have also dabbled with Catachans and the Deathwatch as well). The closest I've been to Chaos models were the Chaos Space Marines and cultists from the Dark Vengeance box set. I have always used them as dead heretics on bases ..... and I also made a large diorama..... But normally, any chaos models I have made are dead! I read all of the Commissar Gaunt and Cain books over the lock downs and with the release of the Traitor Guardsmen models from the Blackstone Fortress expansion, my creative juices started flowing - it got me interested in starting a Chaos Traitor Guard and Cultist army. There have been rumours recently about Squats returning to the 40k universe and having bought a few of the plastic Space Dwarves when they were released in the early 1990's, I managed to locate them recently and realised how small they were compared to current models. As I was planning on making as many Chaos Traitor Guardsmen as I could from as many of the well known Imperial Guard regiments, I thought I would try and make some Chaos Squats. I give you my first Chaos Squat. Apologies for the dust on the photo's, I was so excited to show these models that I hadn't quite finished them. The body is made from a Kharadron Overlord with all of it's stomach and neck armour removed. I then used milliput to model the flak jacket and when it was nearly dry, I used a sharp, wet scalpel to cut the distinctive diamond design. Thin strips of plasticard were used to make his harness webbing. I used more milliput to make the knee guards and made a mould to use for future Squats. I thought Catachan arms would look great on Squats, so I chose the Bolter from the Catachan Command Squad (with a chain blade from a Horus Heresy kit I had in my bits box) and the left arm from a Catachan squaddie, alongside the knife. I made a mould from an original plastic Squat helmet. Once the milliput was set, I then added the pulled down visor for a cool effect. I added some spare bolter magazines from Horus Heresy kits I had alongside some grenades and pack from some scouts. I used a mould of the Chaos star from one of the cultist models and added it to the belt. Shoulder pads were made from moulds of Valkyrie gunners and then had plastic spikes added from Chaos Marauder flails. I also added spikes to the top of his boots as well. I added a plastic Catachan knife sheath to his left side ... and a moulded las pistol to the right. You can also see I added a Horus Heresy sword/knife diagonally down his back. For comparison purposes, the Squat is shown next to a Chaos Traitor Guard I've also made using a FW renegade torso, Cadian legs and shoulder pads, Catachan arms and boots moulded from the Blackstone Fortress Traitor Guard. I've loved making these models and have already made a start on many more. I promise to update as often as I can, but please ask if you have any questions. Till next time

++Thousand Sons Unit of the Week++ ++Cultists++ New codex, new discussions about units! As we already have in other faction sections, this is the Thousand Sons Unit of the Week series, where each week we select and dissect a datasheet found in the book, and discuss how we use the unit in-game, favoured loadouts and combos, essentially how to use these units best. What have you found that works, and what doesnt? Please try to stick to the idea of making the unit in question work, as opposed to pointing out other units that might do a better job - we'll get to those in time! This week, we will be discussing the odious rabble of the Legion, the Thousand Sons Cultists - a horde of scum and villains devoted to the dark gods in search of fame and glory, these madmen follow the Thousand Sons into battle, or are driven forth before their armies. What are you thoughts, and how best would you use the unit? To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will you be running multiples? What <GREAT CULT>, loadouts, spell relic and Stratagem support do you prefer and how much does it depend on the above choices? Are you buffing this unit, and if so, how? Are you building as a damage dealer or buff-provider? Uses in Matched, Narrative and Open Play How have they fared for you in-game? Over to you. ++Thousand Sons Unit of the Week Index Link++

The unsung heroes, the ragged multitude. The ones dun wrong by this edition. I want to make more use of these chaps -they have guns they have 'brutal' close combat weapons they have toilet tissue for armour!! I've been playing a lot of kill team sized games lately and the Cultists have held their own against Guardsmen and Tempest Scions, but last 40k game they came face to face with the business end of the flamer on that new scout walker marines have. Suffice to say that ended badly for them.... I feel they would have been given a bit more utility if they had been given objective secured/ ability to perform Actions and the poxwalkers hadn't (I mean come on - zombies Investigating or Siphoning Power???) How can we use these regular mortals to spread the grandfather's love?
