  3. B&C-20 The Inner Circle Presents: +++CALL OF CHAOS XII+++ Chaos is calling! The armies of the Lost and the Damned, the Space Marines fallen from grace, the Daemons that howl in the night, they all wait to make their appearance again this year in the hallowed halls of the B&C! The Chaos range has had a lot of support from GW in the last couple of years: Three Chaos Marine Codices, a Daemons Codex, and extensive lists from Forge World. Then you have the Chaos Knights and the Shadow Spear. And we should not forget the recent addition of Rogue Trader stuff, the Lord Doscordant and the Warmaster of Chaos, Lord Abaddon himeself! All you have to do is give in, embrace the Ruinous Powers and start painting as if your mortal soul depended on it (maybe it really does)! You have to answer this Call… …It's the Call of Chaos! OVERVIEW: Call of Chaos aims celebrate Chaos in 40k and to motivate participants to build up their Chaos forces. It also serves as a melting pot for the collective talent of the B&C community, allowing the Frater to share techniques, ask questions and offer advice, thus promoting the hobby in the service of the Dark Gods. The event is addressed not only to those who have chosen Chaos as their primary army or current project but also to those who feel like painting the odd unit of this fabulous range or a single mini just for fun. After all, Chaos is the common denominator of 40k Universe! The event will be run by me @Captain Semper so if you have any questions feel free to ask publicly or through PMs (I prefer publicly so others may benefit from the answer) – I’m notoriously fast in my replies. RULES: The entries must be supported by the Chaos faction on the B&C. Simple. This includes any 40k Chaos unit from any GW or FW range. You must make ONE vow and one vow only to complete at least one LEGAL unit from a relevant Chaos list (see FAQ below). There is no limit on how many units you may pledge in your vow but keep in mind that you’re liable for all your pledged units. If you fail to complete even one unit your vow will be deemed incomplete. You must provide evidence of progress. This translates to posting a “before” and “after” picture for EACH unit pledged! You are welcome to post as many WIP pics as you like but the “before” and “after” are compulsory. To keep track of each participant and their commitment, the Deities of Chaos will require a binding oath in their name. Please use the standard format below or any other format that will contain the vital information i.e. the info in brackets: I [enter your name] answer the Call of Chaos and vow to complete [enter number and details of units] before December 15th 2019. If I do this successfully I will receive the Mark of Dark Glory and continue on the path to ruin. If I fail I’ll wear the Mark of the Lost and I expect no mercy on my soul! Once you take the vow there is no going back. If you fail for whatever reason to complete by December 15th, 2019 you will be awarded the Mark of the Lost and become Chaos Spawn. Real life happens to all so make sure your vow is on the safe side! Do you think the ascension to Daemonhood is easy? Think again! DURATION: Start date: September 15th, 2019 End date: December 15th, 2019 (all day for all time-zones) Participants may enter at any time - there is no cut-off date to get in. The deadline is immovable though so plan your free time accordingly to avoid disappointment. REWARDS: All of you who participate in the Call of Chaos may wear the relevant badge: For those who successfully answer the Call of Chaos and complete their pledged units in a timely fashion will be awarded the majestic “Mark of Dark Glory”! The badge will denote how many units you have successfully completed as well as the rank among the lost and the damned – a long-standing tradition in the Call of Chaos event. So the Mark of Dark Glory has 6 denominations based on the amount of units completed by each participant: 1 Unit: Servant of Chaos 2 Units Chosen of Chaos 3 Units: Aspiring Champion 4 Units: Champion of Chaos 5 Units: Lord of Chaos 6+ Units: Warmaster of Chaos Those who fail to complete even one of their pledged units will receive the dreaded and abhorred Mark of the Lost, which they have to wear until the next Call of Chaos – thus becoming Spawns, which is what you deserve for straying from the eight-folded path! Now you may wear this as standalone badge or combine it with the generic participation badge thus: Similar square badges for all awards will be available by the end of the event! FAQs: Q: What is the Chaos Faction? What units are we talking about? A: Well everything from a Chaos related list that is supported from the B&C. This can be any of the Chaos Codices (Chaos Space Marines, Thousand Sons, Plague Marines and Daemons), FW Imperial Armour lists (including Traitor Guard of course), any other official supplements or standalone games (e.g. Rogue Trader – the Chaos bits). Let’s keep it in the 40k setting though – there will be a time and a place for Horus Heresy stuff. If there is something you want to do and you’re in doubt, let me know and we’ll work it out. Q: In what state should the minis be when pledged? A: Minis should be undercoated at most. Of course the undercoat can be any colour – don’t worry, the Black Legion will not be getting an advantage! If in doubt let me know and I’ll give you a ruling. CAPTAIN SEMPER’S NOTES: And Call of Chaos keeps its date once again and this time it celebrates the B&C 20th Birthday! Well out of the 20 years of the B&C the Call of Chaos ran for 12 – easily the longest running event in the B&C! Now it was not always running in its current form, nor was it always an annual event, nor was it always ran by me – in fact I took over from Brother Nihm 6 years ago! But the Call of Chaos was there to promote the Faction in the B&C – a Faction that essentially defines the whole background of the game. I mean really, who hasn’t painted at least one Chaos mini at some point in his/her hobbying career? And if there is such an individual, well, now is the time to rectify the situation! And nowadays, with Kill Team and the various boxed games such as Blackstone Fortress and Rogue Trader before it, it’s even easier to get yourself some tasty Chaos minis that can be used in a cool game without the need to invest in a 40k-sized Chaos Army. That’s why we do not perceive the Call of Chaos as a Chaos players event but as a wider B&C event that can attract people whose main armies are not Chaos at all, but still have an interest in painting one these fantastic minis! At this point, I would like to extend my thanks to Inner Circle’s Master of the Arsenal @Grotsmasha for his continued support and the fantastic imagery that he tirelessly produces! His creativity and response times are amazing and thanks to him this event was able to kick-off on time! Best of luck to all Captain Semper Member of the Inner Circle The Master of Recruits

  6. Hey all, After a substantial hiatus, I've been inspired by the beautiful new Chaos minis to get back into the hobby! I'll be building and painting up a force of one of my renegade Chapters, the Black Hammers - http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336640-index-traitoris-black-hammers/?do=findComment&comment=5327341 I've recently picked up my first squad for the project, a box of the new Chaos TDA, which has tied in perfectly with the start of the ETL, leading to the following vow: I, Lysimachus, rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX on the side of the Black Hammers Renegade Chapter and to the glory of Malal* and vow to complete a unit of 5 Chaos Terminators of total value 214pts on or before September 1st, 2019. Success will bring me eternal glory and failure will doom me to wear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until the year-end. (Maybe my completed vows should count against the Forum total??? ) Pic: _____ The squad is built to be fluffy/semi-competitive, with 4 combi-plasmas plus a reaper AC (should complement the plas reasonably well, but more for rule-of-cool!). CC weapons are also meant to be a mix of effective/cool, with 2 chain axes, a chain fist and power fist and a LC on the unit Champ. As a side point, I managed to get one extra combi-plasma bit but had to make two more from my bits box, using the plas attachment from the Tac squad combi-weapon for one and a cut down Sternguard combi-plasma for the other, plus some GS to tie them in. I'm quite happy with how they look next to the original! I also needed a second chain axe, which again I managed to get the bit, but I wanted to make the two axes a touch more individual. So I trimmed off the rear blade and pommel icon and replaced them with some bits from the power axe from the TDA box, again I'm fairly happy with the look: Anyway, that's it for now, here's hoping I get on ok with the painting!!! Any and all C+C is always welcome, and thanks for reading!
  7. The Inner Circle presents: +++CALL OF CHAOS XI+++ http://fortressofunforgiven.homestead.com/Call_of_Chaos_11_Poster.jpg Chaos is calling! RULE 2: You must make ONE vow and one vow only to complete at least one legal unit from a relevant Chaos list (see FAQ below). Marines, cultists, daemons, deamon engines, mutants, you name it! And as I mentioned above, this event is not only for hardcore Chaos players – anyone who at some point thought he/she heard the Call but did not explore the possibilities, well now is the time: more so with the timely arrival of Kill Team! Indeed Kill Team offers the opportunity for people to have fun with a faction they do not usually play making a relatively small commitment – both in terms of money and in terms of time. So you always liked those Thousand Sons look but were not in the mood of painting an entire 40k Army of them? Now is your chance to get a squad done and get it out of your system! As always I would like to extend my thanks to Inner Circle’s Grand Master @The Shadow Guard for his continued support and the fantastic imagery that he tirelessly produces! Best of luck to all, Captain Semper Member of the Inner Circle The Master of Recruits
  8. Well I'm going to try to keep this short and sweet: As a main resident Chaos player for 4.27 billion years, I have seen a lot of tournie time and play time as almost every Legion, and model you can think of in the Chaos line. (even Emperor's Children). Coming off having sold my Death Guard tournament army, I am using these recent events as a kick off for Black Legion. For the sake of transparency, yes I have started Black Legion as an army many, many times, but have fizzled because of a few reasons the most major being: Abaddon's mini (I made one, and I accidentally through it in a recycling bin (I think)), The Black Legion rules stunk. Difficulty coming up with a unique idea on painting black (that I enjoy). And finally the main stream chaos models suck, and so do the rules. Well I assume number 1 is resolved with December's releases (or so I pray). Number 2 has to be resolved at some point. Number 3 is largely resolved with the recipe I've developed for my Deathwatch over the past year. And number 4 probably is resolved with Black Fortress as well. (Or at least partially?) I'm taking a big gamble here. I've sold off a lot of stuff and we really don't know -anything- concrete as I write this. But Call of Chaos has forced my hand. So let's assume for a minute this is a real thing, and any additional info anyone can share would be great (so I don't make too big a blunder). What are the most playable, current models that you think -wouldn't- be replaced? (aside from Cultists). For instance, I don't want to paint Oblits. Love the rules, but I have 9 painted metal ones that I despise. Let's be honest, they must be queued for replacement! For right now I'm thinking playable, non-replaceable units include: - Preds? - Rhino's - Terminators??? - HQ's. - Bikes? -Helbrute And obviously the Forgeworld line up. So first things first is the debate of if I actually do the Black Legion thing or stick out Red Corsairs which haven't been very great for quite a while.... Kranon and company are all but dead, so that's out of the question too. My first thought is to build a CSM Kill Team for a campaign and build from there. Otherwise I'm still leaning towards Thousand Sons version 2.0. (with less Tzaangors)

  13. +++CALL OF CHAOS X+++ http://fortressofunforgiven.homestead.com/Call_of_Chaos_10_Poster.jpg Chaos has seen a lot of love recently from GW, with an elaborate new line for the followers of two out of the four deities, including two Daemon Primarchs! Also other, older releases still hold their own presenting awesome modelling opportunities like the Khorne Greater Daemons and the fantastic Khorne the Betrayer mini! But it’s not only the large-sized models that are new: Death Guard has had its day in the sun with the totally new range as well as never before seen units that complement nicely the also awesome Tzeentch range. Not to mention that in 8th Edition so far, we already have two Chaos Codices out plus of course the Index that provides new rules for all the existing GW range – Chaos of course included. So I’d argue it’s a great time to join the Chaos ranks and fight for the whims of the Dark Gods while pursuing your own agenda to bring the hated Imperium and the Corpse Emperor to their knees! So will you take on the challenge and ascend to the ranks and even becoming a Warmaster? Or will you succumb to your weakness and become a mindless spawn? Now answer the call... can you hear it? It's the Call of Chaos! Overview: Call of Chaos aims to motivate participants to build up their Chaos armies and also serves as a melting pot for the collective talent of the B&C community, allowing the Frater to share techniques, ask questions and offer advice, thus promoting the hobby in the service of the Dark Gods. The event is addressed not only to those who have chosen Chaos as their primary army or current project but also to those who feel like painting the odd unit of this fabulous range or a single mini just for fun. After all, Chaos is the common denominator of 40k Universe! This is the 10th Call of Chaos and this year it is dedicated to Slaanesh!!! The event will be run by me @Captain Semper so if you have any questions feel free to ask publicly or through PMs – I’m notoriously fast in my replies. Rules: The entries must be supported by the Chaos faction on the B&C. This includes any Chaos unit from any GW or FW range for the 8th Edition of 40k, as well as other gaming systems supported by the B&C such as Epic and BFG. Please note that no HH entries will be accepted per se. Of course one can use HH minis to represent 40k Chaos, but they should be fully compatible with 40k down to the chainsword. You must make ONE vow and one vow only to complete at least one game-legal unit from the Chaos faction. Please use the standard format below or any other format that will contain the following vital information: Name of participant Number of units Name and details of units The standard format is: Once you take the vow there is no going back. If you fail for whatever reason to complete by December 15th, you will be awarded the Mark of the Lost and become Chaos Spawn. Real life happens to all so make sure your vow is on the safe side! Do you think the ascension to daemonhood is easy? Think again! Duration: Start date: October 1st, 2017 End date: December 15th, 2017 Participants may enter at any time - there is no cut-off date to get in. The deadline is immovable though so plan your free time accordingly to avoid disappointment. Rewards: All who participate in the Call of Chaos X may wear the relevant badge: http://fortressofunforgiven.homestead.com/Call_of_Chaos_10_Banner_00.jpg For those who successfully answer the Call of Chaos and complete their pledged units in a timely fashion will be awarded the majestic “Mark of Dark Glory” and this year we rename it to “Mark of Total Hedonism” in honour of Slaanesh! The badge will denote how many units you have successfully completed as well as the rank among the lost and the damned – a long-standing tradition in the Call of Chaos event. So the mark of Dark Glory has 6 denominations based on the amount of units completed by each participant: 1 Unit: Servant of Chaos 2 Units Chosen of Chaos 3 Units: Aspiring Champion 4 Units: Champion of Chaos 5 Units: Lord of Chaos 6+ Units: Warmaster of Chaos The relevant badges (also in medallion format) will be revealed at the end of the event. Those who fail to complete even one of their pledged units will receive the dreaded and abhorred Mark of the Lost, which they have to wear until the next Call of Chaos! http://fortressofunforgiven.homestead.com/Call_of_Chaos_10_Banner_02_Failed.jpg So good luck to all and may the weak turn into spawns and the strong into Warmasters!

  16. Everyone has to start somewhere but this is more of a return. I've always had a thing for the Chaos side of things since the Lost and the Damned books with the huge tables for gifts and mutations and different gods. Originally (probably because I was a lot younger), it was Khorne that caught my attention with the rage and love for martial prowess. But over time this changed. Not helped in any way by the old Index Astartes articles in White Dwarf. My eyes were opened to the truly horrific sides of two Legions in particular...Night Lords with their terror tactics (which still haven't fully been realised on the tabletop). The idea of a world being bombarded with psychological warfare before attacks really begin appealed for some strange reason. Then came the real evil side of Chaos...Emperors Children! Twisted, self satisfying, inhumane, and very individualistic. Khorne and his hack and slash ways just didn't cut it any more. Then A.D-B had to do the Night Lords books and Forge World had to do the Horus Heresy stuff. Time to attempt some EC and NL me thinks. So here's my attempt to get some Chaos minis completed and to keep me motivated while doing so. And here's where I'll begin... Call of Chaos 2013 I offered up one Chaos Lord and a squad of Noise Marines initially. And very nearly got started. But then a Kakophoni squad found it's way to me and frankly, they are amazing. The faces alone made me want to paint them. Everything starts somewhere and what better than taking a nice dip in something warm and bubbly to get you in the mood for a bit of work in the name of Slaanesh. Next step will be pins, bases, and undercoating. I always base my models before painting these days as I find painting them separately results in a better end result. With these I'm thinking along the lines of Isstvan V (and why not). Black ash, battle debris, and maybe a body part here and there. I'm also hoping to use them as noise Marines too so they may get a bit of individual work too as part of their journey to 40k. Part 1 has been pretty basic and a bit of an anti-climax I know. But, if you do have any ideas for bridging the 30k/40k gap. I'd love to hear them. Till next time, cheers for reading.
