No the Aquilatron with these rules would be more likely:

$175 model, 100 points, 1-5 per Heavy Support, may be armed differently

WS4 BS5 S6 T6 W6 I4 A4 Ld10 Sv 2+/4+

Weapons: Gatling Battlecannon (same as battle cannon, but 36" heavy 6), Sword of the Slaughtered Faithful (S10 armorbane close combat weapon)

Options: upgrade either weapon to:

Flaming Wrath of Angry Fury (template S7 AP2, assault 3) for 5 points

Twin-Linked Neutron Laser Projector (same as Forgeworld weapon) for free

Fist of the Imperium (S10 melta lance armor & fleshbane close combat weapon) with under slung twin-linked plasma cannon for 10 points

-upgrade twin-linked plasma cannons to pair of lascannons for 5 points or pair of multi-meltas for 5 points

Monstrous Creature, Split Fire, Eternal Warrior, Fear, FNP, Adamantium Will, IWND, Prefered Enemy (non-loyalist Imperium units)

Special Rules: Any friendly unit within 24" may use Aquilatron's Ld with a re-roll.  At start of movement phase may take a LD check to swoop as if it were a flying MC until end of this movement phase.  At start of shooting phase may take Ld check to fire each weapon twice.  At start of assault phase, may take Ld test to cause an enemy unit within 24" to be unable to overwatch, Aquilatrons in same unit may target different units and not necessarily the one they intend to charge.  At start of foe's turn may take Ld check to receive FNP (4+) for duration of player turn.

I take it that Flaming Wrath of Angry Fury absolutely MUST be modelled with a Marine of a certain chapter?

Yes and he will come pre-painted with a warning that any other paint scheme will negate the weapon's profile.

Oh, you... tongue.png

I quite like the idea of the HKs, but feel they need to be a bit more "Guardy". Maybe lose the bolters and not have the option for every squaddie to replace his weaponry as Guard don't get access to an armour in the same way Marines and Sisters do.

I picked Bolters because they're "high-strength special weapons" in Guard terms, designed to take on foes too tough for lasguns to handle.

Diverting munitorium resources is fairly common, which is why I didn't balk at giving everyone access to melta/plasma - the HK squaddies probably spend most of their time as special weapons troopers in veteran squads.

It's not hard to be better than a Lasgun though :P Boltguns don't feature on anything but characters as upgrades and even then I don't think anyone really takes them so they just don't feel like a Guard weapon. It could be a good opportunity to introduce a new weapon to Guard though for example instead of giving them weapon upgrades.

or how about guard specific scenery? like laying down some tracks for a super heavy vehicle that arrives from reserve? an engineer team would have to keep advancing with the tracks and when its near the enemy's deployment zone or a building of theirs it careers off the track and opens up the enemy building? this sort of thing will be to save shells for more important targets.

on a more serious note, i'd like to see more things similar to this but more siege orientated and practical. i know theres the krieg siege list but i'm thinking more smaller teams, sort of like an extra squad in the platoon, or a side step for storm troopers. giving them siege equipment like siege mantlets, melta based weapons, reinforced armour etc. to me, the guard are the largest fighting force in both the imperial and traitor forces, and it would be nice if there was just an extra bit that we could build a list around. it would also make it slightly fluffier for when allying with imperial chapters or traitor renegades.

just my musings on the subject.

The Cyclops is now infantry with a strength of 0.  Page 3 of the rules states that models with a strength, toughness, or wounds at 0 are removed as a casualty, hence you pay 30 points for a Guardsman and a DOA Cyclops.

They had quite a discussion on that down in the OR. I recall it revolving a bit around being state based removal at 0 or trigger based with the change to 0 causing the removal. If you mangle that rule the wrong way you kill great swaths of models off the table top by accident.

All this talk about Rugh riders made me want to buy them and test them out, so I visited GW and found out that Attila and his riders can't be purchased or  found on the site. So I send them a mail, lets see if I get an reply.

Got an reply yesterday. They told me to look at other stores and e-bay. Here is the reply:

Hi

Many thanks for your email and we do apologise for the delay in getting back to you. Since the update to the Space Marines we have received a vast increase in the number of calls and emails and are currently trying to answer them as quick as possible.

At Games Workshop we are constantly reviewing our range. New products are added and sometimes products are removed. Everything that is currently in our range is available to purchase from www.games-workshop.com. If a product can't be found on our webstore, it isn't currently part of our range.

We would suggest contacting one of our independent retailers or checking online auction sites as you may be able to source the product from them.

We hope this helps and apologise we were unable to help more directly.

Kind regards

Gemma

EDIT: I will Contact a Mod regarding the big space.

Hmm, curious indeed. Thanks for letting us know Sviar, though it's suitably vague as normal we can't draw too much from it but I think that she recommended going to the likes of eBay could be an indicator of new models. Companies don't usually recommend you get their products from third parties :P

The real question might be less if the models are no longer for sale and more when - or even if - they're getting replacements.

to be honest i'd love to see RR get a massive update. i'm not a fan of the original attillan models, they need an update badly. but i love RR kitbashes, they are pretty easy to do if you can get the bits. i hope if they release a new kit it'd be more in the krieg/long coated cavalry sort of image.

I would just like to see a rethink on some of the classics. A re-release in plastics of all the classics. The Catachan's need serious change they look like every bad Vietnam, movie ever made. The rest would be better if they were at least ready to convert,or at least change the pose. Some wheeled vehicles,or new unit types.Well thats my 2 cents worth.

Did someone mention angry small animals! :)

Seriously tho i would love the FW rules to allow a full mech list with command tanks into the main codex as i'm a treadhead.  Not too sold on allowing a superheavy in as that kinda takes the fun away from organising apocalypse games really!

As has been mentioned before I think rules for the "main" regiments would be great, and perhaps a traitor guard supplement later down the line as my guard army is a mechanised part of my Iron Warriors.

Going off the beaten track how about giving horde infantry lists some form of cover save? "dust from our boots" or something like that.  Make it quite high as to not be game changing but if 100+ guys are running at the enemy lines there's bound to be a little dust thrown up! Just a thought.

I'd hold your Rough Riders, just because a couple of rumours link up doesn't necessarily give them more weight. There's a lot of echoing on the Internet too, and a Super Heavy in an expansion is not the same as one in a codex.

Since we seem universally terrible at keeping up on rumourings here in the Guard section (probably because we know better than to ask too many questions tongue.png ) I've accumulated the latest blurb:

-‘Mission Objectives’ are potentially a new special rule for the Imperial Guard, although my channels are a little dry on this front, one can only begin to imagine what they do. I heard on the grapevine, that
this special rule would allow even sergeants, to order ‘minor orders’ to their own unit.

-Formerly Forge World dominated vehicles will take a tour in the Imperial Guard codex. This means we could see such units as the Forge World Destroyer Tank Hunter as part of the upcoming codex. Although one finds it extremely unlikely they will receive a new plastic kit.

-Headquarters units have seen a massive shake up. Above the whole organisation, some units have been deleted, others modified. You start by buying a command squad, this is then changed by swapping the officer for a commissar, if one wishes too. The three present advisors have been retained, with the addition of the Primaris Psyker as a command squad advisor.

-Ministorum Priests are back in the same manner as before, this time though it has been rumoured they increase the ranged output of the unit, as well combat potential. Maybe in the form of the ‘preferred enemy’ special rule, who knows?

-The mighty (or not so mighty Enginseer) has stayed relatively the same, except for the transition from HQ to either Elite or Heavy Support. But what excites me the most, are their roles on the field of battle.
Apparently they will act much like Royal Courts in the Necron army, bought with certain upgrades, then attached out to other units, to confer certain benefits to that unit.

-In terms of repacking, it is believed that special weapon squads will receive their own box set. This is also rumoured to be extended to veteran squads and heavy weapon teams. Coming in boxes of five models, with a wide variety of special equipment.

-Moving on from the veteran weapon squads re-boxing, it is believed that they will be changing their position on the battlefield. With smaller squad sizes, veterans seem to be taking a fire support role, that
focuses on battlefield specialisation.

-Vendetta and Valkyrie gunship’ will more than likely be streamlined into one unit. Also it is believed that the squadron option will be lost, and an increase in points to balance out the power of Vendetta and
Valkyrie gunship’ in sixth edition.

Previous round up:

Codex Imperial Guard launches in March 2014
Look for many refreshes in the codex rules.

Expanded command system with the return of Doctrines

The missing IG tanks will be released:

-Griffon/Collosus/Medusa artillery kit

Stormtroopers released

Veterans released

-These two infantry kits include many, many optional bits to build command squads and even penal troops.

New centerpiece kit is a Horus Heresy era tank.

Is it worth noting that some of this mirrors what we have discussed during idea brainstorming? Whether we were on the mark or it did the old Chinese whispers routine into rumour we can't say but something to remember.

General attitude to rumours aside, they seem relatively vague so I can't get too enthused yet. We've heard the Stormies/Vets rumours before, and a HH era tank could be so many things.

Seriously several super heavies are not problematic in regular 40K.  The Gorgon is a great example.  It is tough, slow, and lightly armed, but expensive.  The fact that the Krieg Armored Battlegroup allows it in normal games and it is always too expensive to be practical, no matter your list, proves the point.  Malcahors, Valdor, and Minotaur all seem to be other potential super heavies that would not be too over the top.
