If you want a Power Armor Libby, get Servin Loth. One of the only Libby Models with a Helmet on; helps that he also comes with an Honorguard set with some fancy Power Axes and other bits.

But yeah, nice Bat Reps as always! Good to see you giving the Word Bearers a hard time and even stomping them into the dirt (as is deserved) at points

So would you say the melta support squad was the word bearers ace unit ?

It seems like the WB  characters  cant catch a break vs that ravenguard praetor at all

yeah he locked em all up on the phalanx at some point garro tries to steal one of em and the guys is all  " no  = n ="

Dorn sorta figured he would need his librarians for the siege despite trying to follow the edict and when garro came looking to poach for malcadors boy toys Dorn made it pretty clear that he was gonna be the one to choose when that gun was fired , not malcador since well they were his sons and all

I just got a really really good deal on a pewter terminator one  so I painted him up.  Might get a regular Artificer armor version for when Im not running terminators

If I had to vote a single "Traitor of the Match", it'd easily be the Melta Support Squad. Killed 5 Dark Furies, forcing them to flee and delaying my assault plans for 2 turns, then vaping both dreads. I know that a squad full of Meltas is nothing to sneeze at,but they were kicking butt until the Dark Furies came back for round 2.

Well Zardu vs a Praetor aint really a "fair" match up. The Praetor with a Paragon Blade is one of the strongest generic builds possible. Zardu is a pimped out librarian. His main benefit of making the Ashen Circle troops doesnt equal a CC character.

Even the Blade Slaves can only hurt the 2+ armor models on a 5+. RR did roll one 5+ (giving ap2 to wound), but the Cataphractii armor proved stronger.

And I actually knew that background, I was just tossing a barb for funsies.

I was happy when the Librarian refused Garro, who I kinda dislike, and chose his Legion over the dubious honor of Knight Erranthood

That is a cool Terminator Librarian as well.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got in another fight with Rayray this Saturday, 6k, Maelstrom Mission 4

My army

Rite of War: None

Warlord Trait: World Burner, gave Shred to Missile Launcher Heavy Support Squad and Mor Deythan

HQs

Praetor in TDA with TDA Command Squad and Land Raider Phobos

Praetor with Jump Pack and 10 Dark Furies

Master of Signals with Missile Launcher Squad x10

Elites

Contemptor Talon 1x3

Mor Deythan

Cataphractii Terminators 1x8 in Spartan

Destroyers 1x5 with Jump Packs

Troops

Tactical Squad 3x10

Tactical Support Plasma Squad 1x10

Tactical Support Volkite Squad 1x10

Fast Attack

Dark Furies listed above

Heavy Support

Legion Heavy Support Squad listed above

Leviathan Talon 1x3

Deredeo Dreadnought

So, some changes I made

-No Drop Pods. I figured I dropped in pretty heavy last game, I'd go the opposite route. This was a huge change for me.

-no Rite of War. I've really been wanting to use the Missile Launchers, but havent been able to give up the Leviathans. So I brought both and tossed in the Deredeo as I figured he was getting lonely.

I won the roll to deploy and go first, gave it to Rayray.

I failed to Seize the Initiative

Final Score

Rayray-13

WLK- 21

VICTORY TO THE RAVEN GUARD

Now, important stuff:

-Regardless of what the above numbers say, neither of us had much of an army left at the end of the game. Above half strength, all I had was a Contemptor, a Leviathan and my Praetor. Everything else was gutted.

-the Mhara Gal being brought down by a combi-melta shot was damn lucky for me.

-Rayray's Volkite Heavy Support squad was scary. They nuked just about everything they hit, until he aimed at the Cataphractii Terminators. The Cataphractii armor would brush off 49 out of 50 wounds over 2 turns.

The most important thing: Rayray and I had a good time, good food and drink. We coached each other over the course of the game, advising what had what and reminding each other of units forgotten or allowing each other to move units overlooked.

All for now,

Wolf Lord Kieran

POOKIE DOWN BOYS

I feel like Ray Ray needs to get that Glotkin Model  and use that as Pookie 2.0  the normal model isint doing the infamy justice.  He can even swap the riders for terminators and a nurgle psyker or something I dunno just randomly musing here.

WONT STOP HIM FROM GETTING EVENTUALLY BODIED

Man contemptors do work in yer games! on both sides too

Im surprised you were able to score so well it seemed like you were getting badly savaged by the word bearers and demons , something you brought up in  your post game

I think  im sold on a volkite squad now ... maybe

Im glad yall had a good time it looked like a bloodbath of a game

It's funny you say that, as RR was saying that very thing the other day. It's been on his list of things to do, but I believe it may have jumped up a few slots

WONT STOP HIM FROM GETTING EVENTUALLY BODIED

No, no it wont

Man contemptors do work in yer games! on both sides too

Yea, I feel a little crappy have Space Ninjas rely so much on Dreadnoughts, but i havent found an adequate replacement for them yet. Nothing in the Legion lists brings the heavy weapons and massive CC ability that the dreads bring to the table

Im surprised you were able to score so well it seemed like you were getting badly savaged by the word bearers and demons , something you brought up in  your post game

Well the mission helped. I think 4-5 of my points (have to look back at report/notes to be sure) came from scoring RR's objective cards. 2 of my d3 rolls were 5/6, further boosting my score. It's a mix of dumb luck and dogged dedication to the mission.

I think  im sold on a volkite squad now ... maybe

Well, I've never been overly sold on them against Marines. Sure, orks, tau and guard would be roasted by them, but I've had mixed experiences with them. However, the heavy Volkites have 4 shots each, 45in range, and s6. So Marines were getting hit from across the board, wounded easily, and any wound that went through became another. It was a brutal experience. I pretty much just picked up whatever they targeted for the first 3 turns. It wasnt until the Cataphractii's 2+ armor came into the mix that the squad slowed down its murder rate

Im glad yall had a good time it looked like a bloodbath of a game

Yea, it was freaking brutal. score aside, it may have been the worst beating the RG have taken so far.

Sitting here building six thousand point lists XD

Keep building. Whenever the fabled Warhammer trip happens I wanna see Dorn's boys do more than guard a wall!

Turn 1

The RG turn 1 was not really camera worthy. I came hunting for objectives, held all 6 for the turn, but only killed a single Ork artillery gun...the 2 grot crew lived.

The Orks were far more fun however, and responded to the RG in typical Ork fashion.

30 Stormboyz and 3 MegaNobs charge a Drop Pod, the Tactical Squad landed and moved swiftly away from the Green Tide

Well, not that swiftly

Turn 2.

The MegaNobs and Stormboyz earn First Blood with the Drop Pod. the rest of my Reserves arrive, and rather than get in the Ork's face, I elect to land them safely behind me

1 Tactical Squad Lands in the center of the table, another by the Leviathans, and the Volkite Support Squad scatters towards my table edge

the view from my Tactical Squad...crap

The Thudd Guns open up, and the Stormboyz are turned into scraps

The Ork reserves arrive, 2 Dakka Jets and a funky Mek Jet

Oh yea, and more Ork mobs.

always more

The Weirdboy teleports the last of the Tank Bustas deep behind my lines

The middle of the table

The Orks, oh so friggin many, pushing up my right flank

My left flank is pretty green as well

the gap left by the Stormboyz is quickly filled by more Orks, a Dreadnought and hate

the Orks have a hate-on for Drop Pods apparently...

As the infamous Jar-Jar said, Ouch time. it ends pretty quickly.

another Drop Pod bites the dust

Turn 3

The Raven Guard prepare to strike. Varys and his Command Squad and the Assault Squad move to halt the tide of the Ork mobs

Shadow Master Collins and his Dark Furies heroically wipe out a squad of Grots

Corax and his Dark Furies charge Ghazghkulland his Ork Mob

Corax and friends easily slaughter their foe, but kill so many they cannot reach combat and so consolidate into some ruins

Underestimating the aura of Ghazghkull, both Varys and the Assault Marines get locked in combat

the middle of the table

More Ork reinforcements arrive

Many more reinforcements

the Ork Dakka jets unload on the Volkite Support squad

the Ork Dreadnought moves to face down a Leviathan with the help of a single Meganob and a mob of Boyz

Ouch time

the Mek Jet opens up on the 10 strong Tactical Squad

the Volkite Support Squad survives the attentions of the Dakka Jets

The Orks charge Shadow Master Collinsa and his Dark Furies

a Warboss, 3 MegaNobs and Mek charge a Leviathan

The Ork Dreadnought and MegaNob meet the Leviathan in hand to hand combat

Corax and his surviving friends meet the Prophet of the WAAAAGH in combat

The Meganob is ripped to shreds while the Leviathan and Dredd trade hull points

The MegaNobz and Mek boy meet the welcoming claw of the Leviathan while the Warboss does no damage in combat

The Deliverer and the Beast trade wounds

While Praetor Varys continues his head hunting and kills the Ork Nob off

Taking a single wound, the Raven remains defiant and continues to whittle down the mob

Turn 4.

When there is a moment I know I will later regret, its this one. Trust me.

3 inches away, roll double 1's for the Dark Furies' charge

Varys and his squad move into the next Ork mob

Both Leviathans finish their opponents and move to cover the Contemptor Mortis from the next wave of Boyz

The Challenge continues, but the 2++ of the Green Machine save him repeatedly

Varys and his Standard Bearer stand alone as another Ork Mob surrounds them

While another 2 mobs move into the center of the table

and yet another mob moves down the alley towards my Leviathan

the Mortis Contemptor gets the uneasy feeling somebody is watching him

one volley later, the Mortis lives on with a single Hull Point left

So, the Leviathan's blocking move failed.

One move swings into the Leviathan and Mortis Contmeptor, another mob swings into the Leviathan and Dark Fury+Corax combat, while the mob that Shadow Master Collins and his squad earlier failed to charge hit Corax and friends head on

Despite the astounding number of attacks, Varys and his Standard Bearer stand STRONG

Things look bad here...because they are. the combined mobs drop 100 attacks on Corax and his remainging Dark Furies, and the unit and Primarch fall.

Turn 5
The Mor Deythan take careful aim at Ghazghkull and remove his final wound

Varys now stands alone against the might of the Greenskins

the middle of the table, with the vengeful Dark Furies moving to avenge their fallen Primarch

one round of combat later, the mob meets it's doom

as does Varys. though defiant, the mass of Orks is finally too much for his armor

the Mortis Contemptor continues kicking a single Ork to death a turn...more effective than his guns apparently

Shadow Captain Collinsmoves to bail out the Assault Squad

the final score

Thoughts about the game:
-Ghazghkull's ability to call the Waaagh every turn, giving him a 2++ every turn, is freaking terrifying. He laughed off most the damage Corax was doing. I think he took a wound a turn on average, despite the bucketload of attacks. UW's consistenly making his Blind Test (on a 1 and 2, really) was just the icing onthe cake

-Corax only lasted as long as he did as he repeatedly forced Ghaz to suffer a -1 to hit. Without the ability, the fight would have been over much quicker. As it was, I failed the Hit and Run test when I tried to break from combat

-having no real flyer defense cost me badly. the Mortis was laughable, I think he was better in CC stomping Orks than shooting planes

-The Dark Furies, or as UW calls them, Magical Murder Death Fingers, were nuts when they hit. Missing that one charge remains the most frustrating moment of the game

-the Leviathans are friggin amazing. I dont think i'll ever leave orbit without them

All for now,

WLK

-also, Fearless Orks may be my new nightmare

Now you know why the Dual Kheres Mortis isn't all that great. S6 Rending, even with Volume of fire, is Fishing for 6s against Av12+ and only if you're within 24", which is pretty pathetic for an anti-air platform when compared to the Deredeo's Guns.

I assume that, during the movement phase, that Dark Fury Squad used its Jump Pack to move 12" thus not granting them a Re-roll to charge distance?

For Corax's Fighting Style, I assume you play it that he can't stack the -1 To Hit? Because the way we've read it, he totally can. If you don't, fair enough. Failing a Hit and Run is brutal though. I am surprised you didn't use his "Nope" ability and get him back into reserves.

Other than that, GG.

-Yea, the Mortis was a early morning "he'll be here in like 20 minutes" decision to round out points and try to find SOME form of AA. I've tried the trantula before and was not impressed, and i figured that a) it's ork craft, so armor 10 and b) he's coming towards me anyway.

-The Deredeo is a HS slot, meaning if I want my RoW I can only have 1. Right now, the Leviathans have that slot locked down tight.

-Yea, the DF had to jump pack move to get near enough to the Orks in the center. So many mobs, not enough lightning claws

-and that's a big WHAT? on Corax's fighting style? I read it as every CC round he picks an ability, and that's it for the round. Did I miss something?

Busting the HnR roll was a pain in the butt, but when the mob arrived Corax was sitting on 3 wounds left. I didnt think UW would dual charge, and when he did, I didnt think it'd go south so fast. I had hoped he'd focused in the Tactical Squad and Leviathan, which he said he hadnt decided until the moment he declared the charge. As Ghaz was effectively tanking Corax, it really was up in the air who'd receive the mobs attention. Without the Mob, Corax would have either won that round of CC or broken away.

and thank you! the first turn was great for my score, but much of my game was running away and doing what I could to avoid the superior numbers of the Orks. UW didnt make that easy and I was actually getting charged more often than I charged, something Im not familiar with.

For Corax's Fighting Style Shadow-Walk:

"Corax Imposes a -1 penalty on the To Hit rolls of every enemy model which attacks him in an assault until the beginning of Corax's controlling player's next Assault Phase."

Fighting Style in general:

"At the Beginning of EACH Assault Phase [...]"

Meaning you can Activate Shadow-Walk on your Turn, lasting until your next assault phase AND on your opponent's Assault Phase also lasting until your next assault phase for a total of -2 To Hit vs Corax.
