In case anyone is interested, I made it out of the new dev box cherub; I had to slice way the flowing loincloth to make it look like swaddling (hacked off part of the leg, but oh well, its already dead) I also chopped the hands cuz they were too tiny to extricate from the melta bomb

Khorne Red basecoat, washed with Nuln oil, then a layer of khorne red up to a good midway point, then mixed it with space wolves for the highlight and then edged it with pure space wolves.

 

It's pretty much a gem technique just adapted to not make it look like gemstones

I can't believe I missed this project log when I was doing my research into painting up my own 30k/40k force. I am very impressed - I particularly like the use of the MKIII armour - it does look brutal! I'm almost tempted to pull some legs off my own Terror Squad.

 

Did you mention how you got the gore effect? The skin patches on the Contemptor are very impressive. I need to get one now, and don't even get me started on the Viper!!!

That baby on a spike is pretty damn gruesome! It might even garner some critique from the frater (I put a female torso on a spike on one of my contemptors last year, which yielded me a page of debate). It is very Night Lords, though, so I say go for it!

Thanks man, it means a lot to me. For the gore effect its usually a mix of khorne red and blue wash for the "dried blood" and blood for the blood god for the "wet blood"

Yea that partially inspired me honestly, that and a line from Talos where he says he's skinned children in front of their parents. This is not a nice game we play and any arguments about "too far" are sorely lacking

Cool! Spartan's look so damn intimidating, I wish I could build some more.

 

All the talk of 'spartan survivors' are grossly exaggerated, not? Nothing a pick pasta pan with boiling water, two-component epoxy glue, and some GS can't fix.

I've heard the newer casts aren't too bad....

 

I got mine way back when it first came out and it was a nightmare to put together. I almost quit ever getting resin after that >.< there are big chunky vents in between the wheels on the track system which are a devil and a half to cut down.

I've heard the newer casts aren't too bad....

Well I'll be honest here....I didn't build it :P. A buddy of mine who loves assembling asked me if he could and I told him sure. That being said I know the tracks really gave him a rough time as did the sponson assemblies

So... Who's going in the Spartan?

 

That tank would fix assault armies for both loyalists and chaos in 40k if it could take Flare Shields like the Heresy variant!

 

One day I'll get one... I wish it was a dedicated transport for a unit so I don't have to drop my Sicarans and Deredeo...

 

 

This thread is a pretty good kick up the backside in terms of motivation. I'm planning on having my Legion army before the end of this year!

Well I have 20 terminators currently so possibly them and sevetar.

 

In 40k I've tried it as chaos with Dirge casters and screams of lugganeth; 12" radius of no over watch from that is hilarious. No potms sucks though.

 

Also as a matter of fact it is dedicated to terminators :tongue.:

More progress on the Spartan. So far the blue is done to a pre-lightning/freehand/weathering level, the bronze is half done (needs a wash and a re-layer and weathering), metal needs a wash and weathering, and the black/dark grey needs to be revisited before getting washed and weathered lol

Thanks guys, my buddy Crablezworth of dakkadakka fame took some photos of my guys during our last 30k game; we screwed up slightly during our battle report so had to axe it unfortunately. Important thing to note is there's a bunch of guys that were painted to blend in for a video, but are clearly not quite done. I also need to tidy the rims of the bases up a bit
