Thanks man! Haha You're right! He's the Honourable Magister of Death (& Doom!) the High Hand of Death. I should have made him with a hammer for laying Judgement.

Maybe the next one, I really want to make a massive scythe. I'm slowly working my way down the list of things I want to do.

Best needs make more plans.

Thanks for the comment!

Ok doods another shambling update as we move into the weekend. I realise I'm basically just addicted to blogging atm, as if my hobby and Internet addiction weren't bad enough! Now they are converging!

But actually each of the stages is fundamentally nessessary to the overall project. I've gotten into the habit of taking photos to mark these stages, so I may as well share them. It becomes extremely monotonous when I build up characters or squads, and in the downtime also. But too bad! Rules are rules. First I boxed up my army, to help me move it around easily. This is motivating me to finish the paint jobs and put down a varnish to protect the miniatures. It's also motivating me to get an army case. I've just noticed they have the softback codices for $65 au which isn't a bad price, so I may just grab one and make this happen. But that's the price of a Chaos squad too, and today I figure out what I'm going to do. Make or break; I'm going to harvest my chosen. I will make them into raptors and gift their back packs to a new squad. A stronger squad. A true plasma chosen squad.

Then today when I was walking home, I noticed a broken down and dismantled cupboard/drawer outside somebody's house. It was obviously trash but I noticed the drawers were still good and they were the perfect size for my armies. There were even two different depths. So I nabbed two of the shallow ones and scampered home with them. They are the perfect size to fit under my bed, & keep the whole army open and accessible while I finish them all up.

When I had my space wolves force, eventually it just go too big. I can't actually justify more than 2000pts for a single force. It's highly unlikely I'll ever play a game past 1500. I actually really like the game after the second turn. When you look around and see what you have left, what he has left, and what you need to do to achieve victory. After turn two you get to make stradegic decisions. At least that's how I felt. Until then it's just a case of who has the biggest toys, and who gets first turn. Perhaps larger games would cancel this out, but I'm more inclined to play three small games in a day then one big one. Against different opponents.

Anyway I do want to fill out the army, as I suggested earlier to IP when he inquired. So I need to do each rank, then I can make more doubles. Min-max and spam is just the way my mind is organised. If one is good then two is better, you may aswell take three. But at this stage I need to continue filling out the ranks. I'm up to Raptors. And I can build more characters. So one box, 5 become chosen, my chosen become raptors, and the last 5 I will do more characters. I want to build my Noxious mirrors and maybe some others.

Now becomes the question of what to do after I finish the display army. I want to do objective markers and more walkers and scurrying things. But I do not think I will actually fill out the formations like I mentioned earlier. In my mind, I really want to, however, this is a beautiful and broad hobby of ours, I simply cannot bring myself to buy plastic I have already, when I could buy new and sexy plastic, that I haven't had before.

I wish the thread could go on forever, I do, but sadly I think it will end when I fill out these neat drawers that live under my bed. I might build a display board, or continue building dioramas, scenes, who knows, but I need small goals and these new drawers have set the limits for the armies.

Oh yeah I was thinking that the coolest thing to build would be a duel scene. I wonder what would happen if I took myself seriously and tried to build and convert a duel scene for golden demon or something. I don't even think we have GD in Australia anymore, but things are looking up for games workshop lately so you never know. Besides it would've a cool thing to do, %110 my best effort. No corners cut and no army builder mentality. My valediction for the the army. My piece de resistance, or however those fancy French say.

But today is just boring pictures of boring boxes.

I love opening these thing up and spilling all the miniatures over the table. People freak out. That's why it's important I finish them and get a sealant down.

They're perfect! One day I'll do a shot of all the different army trays I've developed for the army :)

The Virulent Malador and Friends

Still room for some bikes and 30+ cultists. I figure plague culties will be easiest to make plus it fits in with my back story. Basically the whole population has become addicted to this stage substance the cultist have developed. It dulls the senses and steals people's wits, along with they're insecurities. So now the whole population is hooked on this substance and commit to weekly ritual partaking and intoxicification. From the high to the low their are many different flavours and varieties, all with similar effect, making it easier for deamons and devils to steal into people's hearts. That's just the basic backstory and a fairly common one I'm sure ;) I was thinking I would tell it through the eyes of a hive worker ganger. I think that's the best way for me to write about space marines, as a human, looking up to them. Overheard conversations and that kind of thing. Just his ideas about them, rather than any truth of facts. I want my Black Legion to be very obscure in that way. The less we know about them, the more dangerous they are. I wouldn't be confident writing as one of them atm. Maybe the plaguis first, definitely Noxious as he is pivotal to the whole project. The whole project was for him and the Black Legion Characters. I can't build Chaso Space Marine Characters if they don't have an army to lend, it just doesn't make sense to me. I'm hoping once I get gaming I will somehow get into Killteam, heralds of ruin, hell even if I have to do it myself. I much prefer skirmish games. I'm a Necromunda boy through and through.

The truth about the Virlent Malador is that they were all the rejects from the Black Legion army. Dudes that looked to similar, or too naff to make the final cut. It also really helped my converting kit-bashing, because I had already written off these miniatures, I felt no reservations about going over the top.

Ahh so here's a thing. Do you think I could pas these characters off as Sorcerer's? What more could I do to enchanted that idea? Maybe books? Or physic hoods? I've decided the theme for the renegades will be me practing bone armour trim. Bone anything really. Is just go ott with greenstuff, and see it through to painting completion. They will be my ever living canvas, the undying potenia.

Demon prince

So now my goal is to finish what's in the boxes and build cool army tokens. You know when you've been thinking about what you need for awhile, then one day, your walking down the street and there it is. Just waiting for you. Thanks universe, I've been waiting for drawers exactly like that. I remember that's how I got my old desk to, it was hilarious.

I'll finish my vow this weekend and take too many photos, no doubt.

Ok so I'm thinking I'll put the Berzerkers in the Land Raider and drive it up the centre. Basic game plan there. The melta troops will go in one rhino firing meltas from the hatches. The chosen will become plasma havocs and go with the Lord and Sorcerer in the other rhino, behind the land raider. The dread will try to keep up along with the possessed who are basically meat shields. I will have raptors also. The termies will appear out of nowhere and probably die horrible deaths.

I will play the plague marines as a seperate force to start off, and later try both armies together. Then I will look at using the characters Abaddon and Thypus and get into that. Maybe build my own versions if I like it. But to start off I like using my own characters. I might pull the old switch-a-roo and keep my Berzerkers in reserve, just bringing them on late game and spending a few turns charging them across the board would be awesome as heck. The realities of war. Sometimes things don't go to plan. They would be seething they were late and missed the action and just roaring across the board. Getting all shot to pieces, but that one guy who makes it...

Anyway anyway..... I have too many elites and I need more fast attack and some spawn for the demon prince. Making the chosen into raptors is the best solution and probably the reason I gave them those chainswords in the first place. Its either that or cut their arms of at the elbows and make them plasma gunners. Which I don't think will work out so well. I really like all the poses, they are all open and look pretty slick; they'd make excellent raptors. I can build the legs up separately and get them all sorted, before I make the jump. Also gives me time to collect the most appropriate jump packs...

We shall have to wait and see

.....

Just got my second vow finished and for once I didn't spoil the grammar, so I'm going to share it here too. All the hyper activity is worth it hopefully when you finally reach those plateaus.

I, BrotherJim, heed the Call of Chaos, and rise to the Challenge of the El Tenebrae Lux for the second time, I vow to complete 1 Chaos Demon Prince, with wings, armour, murder sword, aura of dark glory, mark of Nurgle, for 270 points, and 5 Possessed Chaos Space Marines, with VOTLW, two gifts of mutation, mark of Nurgle, for 180 points, which gives me a total of 450 points from the CSM codex, on or before the 15th of August. Success with bring Glory to the Chaos Forum, and failure will doom me to wear the badge of oath breaker until years end.http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y400/jimbo196/A2D38D15-F44A-484B-85E1-F8390ED68F33_zpsv1glzigz.jpghttp://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y400/jimbo196/5E86569D-938F-4188-94ED-813079192F76_zpstlxae5bu.jpg

I just wanted to quickly announce I've got my second vow done. That's another cool 450pts for the Chaos forum Thankyou very much Captain Semper. I'll make another vow in the morning. I feel like I have been working on the demon prince forever, so it's good to finally have it all settled. There is more I could do, especially for the wings, but I wanted to hold it there and make another vow. http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y400/jimbo196/B3D8D106-4928-478C-B39F-8147666AA14F_zpsopzb5los.jpghttp://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y400/jimbo196/4E8EF147-48D6-4475-9402-C5D6516E0858_zpse3ujr5ix.jpg

Done and done on to the next one. I actually had a lot of fun with this one, though I've only scratched the surface really. I'll make another vow tomorrow.

Keep up the great work everyone! This thread is the awesomesauce.

Jim

Some more demon prince. So happy to be done enough to move on.

I've been tinkering around with other things too.

Just some random photos for now. Sadly I don't have as much as I thought. I think I sold of a few squads of Cadians on eBay awhile back. Just been tinkering with what's left and trying to arrange it. Dodgy photos, dodgy ideas, but good things take time.

Before I get stuck into my terminators, I wanted to say a few words about the demon prince. I'm so totally wrapped with the final rendition, I couldn't even pretend I have anticipated this, as I have done such a thorough job of documenting the conversion. But I think it goes to show if you stick to the basic principles, you are good to go. If you can convert a space marine; you can convert a demon prince. He is truly the combination of every little trick I have developed thus farly in my quest for glory.

That particularly wolf skull is quite sentimental, as it comes from Logan Grimar himself (the original Jes Goodwyn one.) I had the miniature in lead and he was my orginal Wolf Lord. I always equip my Characters now with a wolf token of some variety, so it's quite fitting for the Demon Prince to be wearing the Wolf Lord's token as a mask. He is the spiritual successor of the HQ rank. The skull leads him a carrion-bird look, he is quite gaunt and leering. Which is what I wanted from the start. The un-dead and ethereal theme is further supported by the helm/shoulder pad horns and hood conversions. We saw how long I tried to force those elements all together. There are more horrible photos I may show later, but for now I'm too pleased.

He's quite the vulture actually, quoth the raven. He sits there gently tapping, oh man I could go on forever. I love the Eager Allan Poe "the Raven" & I couldn't think of more fitting sound bite.

"Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,

By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it worn,

"Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou" I said "aren't sure no craven,

Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from Nightly shore-

Tell me what thy Lordly name is on the Night Plutonian shore!"

Quoth the Raven "Nevermore."

http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y400/jimbo196/2B371829-7E13-40F1-87CD-57527BB0C330_zpswe5s6mqy.jpg

He is the Carrion Lord of the Shattered Heart for whom a thousand souls die everyday and for whom blood is drunk and flesh is eaten. Well maybe getting a bit carried away there. smile.png But I'm really pleased with the conversion, as I said I knew if I stuck to the principles something would work out. The wolf skull was completely un-anticipated by me; I thought I had lost it, or sold it with the miniature. It's a very unique piece, and it's the pefect size to fill the gap I had previously created.

The miniature is actually reminding me of my old Space Wolfs Wolf Priest. I know I said I would drop the wolf thing, but I'm inspired by how many of his cool ideas I was able to pull out of my subconscious. I haven't thought about the miniature for years. But I do believe his is one of Jes's best. And I always look to the miniatures first for ideas. For the Black Legion I have Abaddon and the Chaos Lord. Orginally for the space wolves I had the GD Wolf Priest and Logan. I also had the PA Rune Priest.

I like this thread because I did the whole Jes Godwyn rundown earlier. I think it's really cool to see how you can apply these ideas. It make take the fun out of it for some people, but for me I'm constantly surprised and impressed with the potential those JG characters have locked away in them.

(Need to dig the picture out of my gallery.)

I, BrotherJim, rise to the challenge of the E.T.L here for the third time. I vow to paint one unit of 5 terminators armed with 3 combi-melta/3 power axe, 1 combi-flamer/power fist and 1 heavy flamer/power fist, for a grand total of 231 pts from Codex:Chaos Space Marines. I will complete this unit on or before 15th of August 2016, for the glory of the Chaos Forum and the Black Legion Warband of the Shattered Heart.

http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y400/jimbo196/36EB988D-198A-432B-8BC0-96E9FDA13CF2_zpsf678xolj.jpg

Let's do this!

Quick update

My terminators are coming along. I have to work on Saturday, and on Sunday I have a date, so it's like a double whammy; I don't think I'll get much painting done this weekend, sadly.

My terminators are really underwhelming in terms of conversion. Right now I'm really happy with them being so iconic. Eventually I will come back and strip the trophie poles and build my own from chaos helms, spikes and servo skulls and what not. Much like my old space wolves, I found its really fun to build up wicked bone hawk manes, for the SWs I even finished them off with the tail of the marauder horse man kits. I'm going to create a hall of Honour for my old wolves, that should make things easier.

In general I feel that building space marines is like a mad keen game of Tetris. Every bit has its place, and there is a place for every bit. The more you explore the different units, the more you see how they encourage your converting and painting.

A really vague example might the horns and claws I have been making for the possessed and what not. When you look at the possessed you might start to think, hell, I could just splice a power sword straight onto an arm, forget the hand, just smoosh up some GS. Same with the legs, just cut them up and rebuild them. They make it look so easy!

In regards to the terminators, I feel it's pretty obvious (and easy) to rebuild the trophie racks into something more personal. They are all very bland and samey, and it's the area that lends itself the most easily to embellishment. But I already have done that with my Space wolves (pictures in the shattered heart thread.) Which was in fact the conversion that started all this faceplate nonsense way back when. I'm really pleased with how far I have been able to take this simple trick. At that time I had my bikers also, and I kept building up awesome weapons for my characters, the weapons were too big for the troops guys to wield,

too small for the terminators to look proper; but they fit the bikers great.

So now with chaos I'm thinking I will use the possessed rank to fill this slot, although I'm already building dudes big enough to wield the weapons anyway, but maybe I will get some bikes too!

Confused yet? Good. That's how I like it.

Anyway there is much more converting I want to do, but I do enjoy painting too, it's just that I'm not so good at painting. My strengths are building and converting, then painting, then fluff and gaming are a slow third behind. I'm still running on the second edition fluff I read when I was 9 :D that's my 40k.

The termies are really meaty, they are great and super easy to paint, so I may try to push my painting with them. Despite this I had to leave one area open to conversion, and this time I'm attacking the faces proper. It's a great way to give the miniatures more life, plus the heads are easily accessible so I can always come back and change them, either replacing them outright, updating the paint job etc.

I started out wanting to make like an Alien face sucker thing on their heads. "It's not a tumour." That kind of thing. Like a weird chaos growth on their faces, you know the artworks. Anyway turns out it just looked like really poorly sculpted hair. So now I guess I'm actually trying to sculpt some hair... Just tinkering around really.

I'll try to get them done in and around other things.

Peace

Termies looking great Jim :tu: They are my fave unit (with a suitable Chaos Lord to lead them!) such an iconic unit, they deserve special treatment.

I must say I like the Raptor with the Space Wolf head - the braids in the heads beard give it such movement.

Thanks midnight! I'm loving the termies too, it won't be long until I can add them with the possessed and demon prince and get a fresh army shot :D

Hey guys just some image spam of my terminators to help keep us moving forward.

I've been building up my renegades in the background, they should be ready for pictures soon, just a few loose ends I need to tie off.

And so, zee terminators

Got to about my usual 50% I'm intending to finish them up through the week, then I think that will be it for my for this year. I feel I got a lot done I just didn't manage my points vs vows vs time very well. Oh well there's always next year, and the COC too...

Got abit carried away with the backgrounds, I think I was best off where I started with just the Chaos Terminator artwork....

Thanks for looking, comments and advice welcome!

Ta

Big kudos on the Termies bro; they look great painted. Like I say, they are one of my favourite units and the little extras, such as your horn conversions, look great and seem really organic. I will be copying that for at least one of my dudes. Think I will call him Jim biggrin.png

Yeah rad that's awesome thanks man!

Honestly I'm chomping at the bit to convert them further. I have so many ideas I want to explore; and the termies are so big and juicy, I'm dying to do more work on them. All I see is potenia when I look at them. But I want to focus on my painting, finalise my techniques and colours, and paint my way back through the force. I'm super pleased truth be told; I just want to consolidate everything and put down a varnish.

The good news is that I grabbed another box of termies to make into oblits, so I will take my feverish need to cut plastic over to them and see what comes loose. Soon soon.

....

But did you see Watch Captain Artemis? OMG!!! Holy MK8 armour!!!! The Citadel have restablished themselves; as the Premierum Manufactorium in the known Galaxy!

I am going to murder those dudes and make them into plague renegade chosen, oh yes; I even have the perfect backpacks....

But not Watch Captain Artemis, no no, he will sit on my shelf. Perfect for ever more. After all the fuss I've kicked up about JG miniatures it wouldn't be right it I didn't lose my :cuss a little bit. I feel like he has been sitting on Jes' shelf for 15-20 years, just waiting for his turn to be rendered in plastic. Whether that's true or not; please don't burst my bubble anyone! It's finally happening!

Anyway I better not say too much; this is a sacred place, somebody may moderate me. Im turning them into plague marines I swear! I just want to paint them first! It's a process! First you kill them with paint, then you bring them back to life by killing them with conversion!

Hence the undead & everliving theme.

It's a process.............!!!!

Bahahah. I will buy the box forsure and paint the minis, but the Balck Legion is where my (shattered) heart truly lies. Just want to stuff around for awhile. I'll still update this thread but I just wanted to make a note of what's going on.

While I was on the GW website I noticed that the Age of Sigmar box is only $200 (au) now; which is a great price considering the amount, and quality of the miniatures. Also I noticed they have a little sample box Storm of Sigmar or some such, basically you get a few of each unit choice, no character types, for only $55 (au)

I'm reluctant to admit that Games Workshop have been doing a lot of good things lately.

Particularly now that so much of my stuff is painted, or at least with a solid plan and direction I feel like I need a good old big box of minis to drown under. Can't have me getting bored and going outside now; I haven't seen the sun for years!

Jokes aside everything will still thump along here, I always rotate between my projects, plus I'll share anything else I can in the WIP forum. Just wanted to make a note that things will slow down. I just need a crap tonne of cheap high quality miniatures to practice my brushwork on.

Let the long war continue!

I wanted to atone for all of my blasphemy

Here are some quick snaps of my completed ETL vow 2&3

Axe of Doom.

A really clumsy attempt. At least i know the idea is sound. Currently searching for the most appropriate bit to mount on the axe head. I just haven't been feeling the GS at all lately. It's too cold all the time.

Cha

Could always try extending the blades/heads with some plasticard as a firm base/support for the green stuff to adhere to, and then sculpt the details on top of it. That way you could maybe use a "green heavy" mix that will be softer and easier to work with, but due to the plasticard won't be flimsy and flop to one side. Just an idea, anyway.

*edit*

Alternately, you could always do something similar to the Putrid Blightkings weapon style, all pitted and nasty:

http://i.imgur.com/qoSrIAIl.jpg

Since you've already shaved away the surface details of the weapon you could drill holes into the axe, maybe sculpt some nastiness/oozing filth with tiny bits of green stuff.

I'm sure you'll come up with something cool!

Cheers Venomlust both are really cool ideas! I actually have quite a few axe head and thunderhammers to practice on, I'm really just waiting to pick up more plasticard. I was hoping I could get away with just greenstuff but it's unlikely. I actually think I'm just going to leave it bare and focus on my painting for the next month or so.

So I will probably paint up a few different power weapons and lighting etc and try to let that be the focus for awhile.

Thanks heaps for the comment though! Pretty much spot on but I think I've changed my mind and will try to favour painting for awhile.

Thanks for dropping in man!

Seriously, this is quickly becoming my favourite thread to follow. I really enjoy reading about your hobby processes and seeing your conversions.

I also have a question: which bits did you use for the flying DP legs? Are they just the stock DP legs? I'm asking because its feet look so much in sync with its movement, whereas in the GW stock pics of the DP, its feet look very much like they only work standing on solid ground.

Well it's funny that you mention that Augustus; because I already had an update planned, so I'm going to stomp right over you like I always do to everyone.

Haha I'll reply after this hold on! :)

(need more caffeine)

Ok to cut a long story short; I accidentally scrubbed my troops with the brush I was using to strip miniatures with last week. A complete oversight on my part. I'm not going to say I have ruined them. I know I can restore them. But it sure has knocked the wind out of my hobby sails for tonight. As much as I carry on about this and that and the other, my Black Legion are my bread and butter. I have finally-finally clawed my way to the top of the army, now I wanted to begin finishing everything completely. I mean I want to use my size 00 series seven to go in and finish all the miniatures. I'm feeling much more confident about the colours, knowing the community and Krauty have got my back helps a lot. The brush work is easy; it's the colours man, it's the colours that kill me.

So I wanted to scrub all the dust off and begging the closing ceremony. Last week I stripped Abaddon and the Chaos lord, they are metal, I used acetone. This week I went to clean the Ol troops, when the paint started coming clean off! It took me awhile to realise I hadn't cleaned the toothbrush properly. So I was effectively scrubbing my plastic troops with acetone. Umm... Whoops...?

Anyway these three dudes copped it the worst

If you know what acetone does to miniatures, you'll know I got away lucky. Anyway life goes on I suppose. I was going to repaint them anyway. Since I was cleaning all the miniatures I did another photo shoot. I really want to improve the photos and the only way to do that is to paint the miniatures, it's such a mad merry-go-round. Anyway now that I have the elite elements all settled the picture is coming together nicely. When I break them into squads like this it almost seems manageable.

Soon more

Bahahaha sorry Augustus! I couldn't miss an opportunity to slight a brother! You and me are mates now so that means I am going to say mean things to you. Unfortunately for you all I live in Australia and so we say some pretty terrible things to one another. I've found in the past; this doesn't translate well to Internet banter or social media. So I try always to be polite as possible; but then I just come across as a 16 year old girl, especially when fanboying in other people threads.

Please know that I am always joking, I'm the harlequin jester, the mad hatter, Mr Motley. And I assume I am alone with my subconscious in here.

But in any case thanks for the complement, I've had a stalker before; it wasn't a bad arrangement.

Ahh yes; your question, now that I have recovered my selves. Well well now that you ask I've been meaning to say. It's my favourite principle of converting; converting the kit against itself. Rather than expensive kit-bashing. Just taking a kit and rebuilding it completely, or even incorporating the spares that come with it, for instance; I really wanted to incorporate two heads on the demon prince, which devolved down to two faces, which eventually I settled on using a face as a shoulder pad.

Anyway; yes; they are just the stock legs. It's important you build the whole miniature completely before you make any cuts. He has no hips or ankles, they are all formed at assembly. So you build him up completely, cut the legs off at the hips, and the feet off at the ankles. It was nessessary to pin the joints and rebuild the ankles and hips, and so I could adjust the flow and mimic the loin cloth.

Your question actually reminded me of something funny so I grabbed a photo to help explain. There is a lot that goes into the demon prince, so it's easier to isolate one area and talk about that.

http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y400/jimbo196/27EF2C71-D14E-45B2-8FDF-CCEDC8E90586_zpszqindhvo.jpg

So yes I cut the ankles and did a hurried job of back filling and sculpting some flesh. If you dig very carefully through the thread the very first photo of him shows the bare ankles, cut and pinned back on, before I backfilled with greenstuff. Showing the exposed pin. What I wanted to show here was where I later rebuilt that little section of his leg as bionics. It's hard to see. He needed more tech and I want to break up the flesh, easy as just cut out a whole section, replaced it with tube and sectioned some larger tube over that. Super dodgy. At the time I was trying to cut through his ankle thinking Jesus Christ this is tough; it's as though someone has pinned this ankle.... Wait a minute... I pinned the ankle...

Either my idiocy knows no bounds; or my conversions are so good I forget they are there. I think both are true to some extent. But yeah; thanks for the comment man, I hope I have explained ok. I did rebuild the ankle; so well in fact I even fooled myself! He came together a treat, I was worried for awhile, I even rage/purged him. Ripping him apart and starting again. Not the legs though.

If you like I can post all the photos of him from start to finish in one smooth hit. I was going to but there are a lot of photos. Even if I just take one from each "stage" there are many...

I'm not even going to edit this because I keep getting sidetracked....

Cheers man and thanks again! Massive fan of your work.

Ok I am going to do the demon prince breakdown. It's not as bad as I thought so I will indulge a little. I don't think I will do a running commentary though. Now let's see *rummages through files

We had just finished converting Varcarium, the legendary Chaos Space Marine

And so into the demon prince

First I had to build him. Then I was able to kill him :D

First it giveth, then it taketh away.

Shameful

Things happened really quickly then and I didn't get as many photos as I wanted

Finally attacked the shoulders. Took a long time to settle them, I basically had to cut away all the muscle and carve new ones as I went. He lost a lot of weight. The shoulderpad cloth/hood was always going to be nessessary. The prinplce is that the shoulder pads, like the leg armour, can be used to cover any slip you create when pinning. It happens all the time in construction when there is a horrible mess, you just tack on a nice facing.

I am a fencer by trade, so digging holes and setting post is kinda my jam. But that's old life. I work in a warehouse currently which is why I feel stuck in and armour builder mentality sometimes. It gives me lots of creative energy for my outlet though. Plus I have been building Lego since I was 2 years old. So there is that too. I really was raised on 40k, it's kinda funny actually. Maybe another time.

Back to the demon prince.

As I said things went quickly from there, until here

Back on track

Hopefully that works ok

Ok I took many pictures to save me explaining.

I feel abit like the Wizard of Oz, when they pull back the curtain and reveal the short fat guy pulling the levers, "do not look at the man pulling the levers!"

I guess I feel going behind the scenes almost robs the miniatures of their magic. Particularly the demon prince. But I think it's worth showing all the stages; perhaps I may inspire some young and keen converters to try their own rendition.

But mainly I want to do a better job of things. The citadel couldn't have had better timing, the Death Masque box has thrown a spanner in the works forsure. I'm going to try to avoid it and just keep chipping away at things here.

I'm all set now. I just need to buy my codex, finish my rhinos, finalise my paint scheme, and I'll be away!

.....

Now now as we move along you will see I have built up the renegade Warband. They have taken on a serpent theme much to my suprise and I'm really digging it. They will serve as the fast attack elements. Basically they turned traitor and Fell to the chaos powers much of their own free will. I want to call them The Serpentas, it's got that cheesy Saturday morning cartoon feel (I think Conan the Barbarian had a bad guy called Serpenta, also Cobra Commander, didn't they clone him and make a Serpenta?)

I don't know it's all mashing in my head.

At any rate the Serpentas have been tearing a hole through the Imperium making way for the Eye of Terror, where upon they encountered the Virulent Malador and joined forces. There is some relationship between Noxious and the Serpentas Commander Sicalas.

So we'll just move through the pictures and I'll talk more about them later. In the real world I will be experimenting eith green stuff a lot with these guys, just trying to get all the profiles and numbers sorted. I don't think I want them to have a "tactical" style squad. I like the idea of being all fast attack raptors, warp talons and jump characters. Please let me know if you think it's a good idea or if you think it's naff.

I was going to grab the official warptalons and add them to the Black Legion. But I think I'm finished with the BL. At least for a little while.

If I focus on the Serpentas that will help me make progress, both in my skill set and as a fighting army. I really just need more plasticard plastic tube and 5mm cork sheet. Then I can dig right into them and repaint my black legion while I decide what to do next. With the chaos forces being so large, I feel I need an Imperial force to balance them out. The Deathwatch will work great. But not yet, I'm not ready yet.

Ok so let's go, where are we up to.

Still very early WIP.
