Afternoon all,

I have finished my Leviathan Siege Dreadnought, well, I finished it a week ago but haven't managed to get any pictures until today. I am pretty pleased with how he turned out, although I may go back and add flayed skins over one side of the chest at some point:

med_gallery_74887_13568_483920.jpg

And a pointless shot of the back because there really isn't much going on behind him:

med_gallery_74887_13568_49224.jpg

I think if I don't add flayed skin to the chest panel then I will add it to the pelvis. I think at the moment it is missing something and the flayed skin will probably help to solve that issue. I also have a shot of the current army as it stands. I always love seeing army shots in other peoples threads and I don't often add them to my own - another issue fixed:

This image is not including the Orlock cultists because I have only managed to get eight finished in total so I have another twenty-two to add. I think I will be able to vow a Warpsmith and ten Bloodletters to ETL at some point and possibly some additional Night Lords vehicles though we will have to see.

As always let me know what you guys think :smile.:

Army is looking fantastic mate - it shames me every time i look upon it, knowing that in the past year I've painted 1 model, and it wasn't even for me DA lol

Cannot wait to get to face these across a table though!

Eagerly awaiting your next additions!!!

Hi all,

It's been a while since I updated this thread but I do now have something I wish to share. I have taken a short break from my Night Lords as I now have a fully painted and usable army for eighth edition and wanted to try my hand at some Imperial Fists (test model to follow in a later post). I wanted the Fists to consist of all Primaris Marines and Scouts so started by buying Know No Fear.

I was explaining to my brother about only using the Primaris/Scouts and he said he thinks I should include more variety and that Captain Lysander looked pretty good. I was still not convinced because I really didn't want to include any of those units. Then while looking at the Gravis Captain from the boxed sets I thought about cutting him in half and adding a Terminator torso onto the legs. Thus my version of Captain Lysander came into being:

gallery_74887_13813_137524.png

So I also used the anniversary edition Crimson Fists standard bearer to make a cast of the Iconography for the front of the shield and also used the (previously broken) banner top to add to the top of his torso. The cloak is again from the Gravis Captain and the thunder hammer is from the Wolf Guard Terminators. I am trying to source a Fist of Dorn thunder hammer at the moment to finish that last detail.

I have also tried to keep a lot of the details that are seen on the current model for Lysander such as the Icon on the shield, the little shield on the chest and the chains/cord holding it in place. There are also some smaller details such as the placement of the purity seals on the chest and right arm correspond to GW's model as well so once painted he should be clearly recognisable as Captain Lysander.

Enough rambling and as always please let me know what you think :).

That's nice! Do you have more pictures of different angles? Interested in seeing the lower and upper torso come together and how that cape on his back looks attached to the cataphractii body.

Ā

The only thing I am scratching my head on are the tri layer shoulder pads. I think it's because I have yet to see someone do that. It doesn't look bad at all it just made me do a double take.

Ā

Excited to see you go to work on the Imperial Fists.

Thanks guys :)

Ā

@hushrong - I will try and upload some more pictures for you tomorrow. The shoulders however are the cataphractii plates with the standard terminator arms. I am planning on adding the straps over the top of the arms like on the cataphractii arms but trying to work out a way of doing it :)

Ā

@Bjorn - I just shaved off the circular panel that is on the side of the torso and then glued the arms on lower. Itā€™s not perfect but the best I could come up with it.

Ā

More to follow soon!

I gotcha! How were you thinking of going the straps? Green stuff a sheet under the shoulder pad and sculpt it?

Ā

There is no good way to trim and file the shoulder on the arm bit for the pads to fit down more snuggly is there?

Ā

Either way I'm looking forward to what you come up with...so I can steal your idea for some of my upcoming terminators :)

Thanks hushrong :). I am not sure if cutting the shoulders would help but I will probably sculpt the straps on an acrylic sheet and then place them afterwards. I am not great with Greenstuff and this seems to be the best way for me not to ruin the model :tu:.

I also have those additional shots you requested:

med_gallery_74887_13813_142651.jpg med_gallery_74887_13813_404908.jpg

And then I made an Ancient using the banner from that Crimson Fist as mentioned in my previous post:

med_gallery_74887_13813_90482.jpg

Last but not least is my Finished test model for this army:

I am really pleased with how he turned out. I wanted to do an army that had some battle damage but still wanted to keep it fairly low key. That is mainly because dirtying up some of my previous painting terrifies me :(. I should have a few more finished soon and will update this log with those when I can.

As always C&C is very welcome and thanks for looking :)

That test model is righteous! I cannot wait to see more of them! The ancient also looks fantastic as well. Did you have to put any weights in the base to keep it upright?

Ā

And thanks for the extra shots of Lysander. Looking at it more it doesn't look all that off at all. I do think some straps will definitely make him fancier but I actually really like how it looks. Especially looking at how it all goes together on his right arm. I also see quite a bit of green stuff on the cloak. What did you do to it to make it fit? I'm really curious about this as I want to give my Abaddon count-as a cloak and your use of that primaris leader's cloak on cataphractii armor is perfect.

Ā

Thanks hushrong :), I actually didn't have to weigh him down at all. That banner weighs so little that the model is heavy enough even without the base being weighted or finished with rocks and other bits. With regard to the conversion, I would write a quick guide on how to do it but I don't have anymore of the Gravis Captains at the moment. I will try and get hold of another and then I will post pictures and an explanation on how I did it.Ā

Ā

I think I will add the straps and maybe also put some behind the trinkets between his legs :tu:.

Ā

The Primaris Marine looks great!

Ā

Thanks Bjorn :), hopefully I'll get a few more done soonish!

A tutorial would be much appreciated. I may try to pick up a gravis captain on Ebay and give it a whirl. I was going to use Loken's cloak but it just doesn't seem like the best fit. The way you used that cloak looks loads better!

Ā

Any plans on adding an IF decal to that cloakĀ when you finish painting?

Ā

I'll try and sort that for you :tu:. Yea I'll be using the Forge World decal sheet for this entire army and already have a few picked out that I think will work well enough. I am not sure if I use a flat style decal or one with the more realistic detailing.

Ā

Ā

Nice kitbash for Lysander. The tester looks fantastic, the black sections break up the yellow well and the white stripes really draw the eye.

Ā

Thanks Pearson :), I have plans for the Lieutenants helmets to have a red stripe either side of the white to differentiate from the Sergeants. The issue with that is I want to keep the palette fairly minimal so I may end up ding yellow stripes either side. We shall seeĀ

Thanks ElDuderino :). It actually wasn't too bad, the cloak was probably the hardest part and that was due to having to greenstuff some parts to make it look right but otherwise it was just cutting and pinning/gluing. The yellow was more of a faff but I think now I have refined the method I could do it a little quicker :tu:

Fantastic work on Lysander! Using the beer-bellied Primaris Captain like that wouldn't even have occured to me, and it's a brilliant use for at least half of the model! That being said, the back banner seems to clash with the general flow of the model a bit, in my opnion -- it just seems so tall...

Ā

The paintjob on the test Primaris is looking fantastic! Seeing that model has made me realised those bolt rifles are just a bit too long to be held one-handed, though.

Ā

But seriously, fantastic work! :)

Yeah I can tell that it was a lot of work there, looks very natural now though. Smooth like silk too. Can't be easy getting the folds to line up like that on a different surface than what was intended.

Ā

Thanks Elduderino :). Wasn't the easiest thing I've done but very happy with it and glad it looks natural to other's eyes :tu:

Ā

Ā

I can't really add more than the others have already or what I've already said to you, so here's not one but two thumbs up!Ā Ā :thumbsup:Ā

Ā

Now hurry up and pain the rest of them!!!Ā Ā

Ā

Thanks mate :), I got fed up waiting for Lysanders Hammer to appear on eBay and have ordered him from GW so he may end up with the standard shield too. I'm still painting Custodes and Sisters unfortunately but when this next batch is finished I will take a small break as I also have another Litany of Destruction to paint :tu:

Ā

Thanks KS :), I could always remove the spikes from the top but now that the GW model is on it's way I will also try the banner part that comes with him. I kind of like the long barrel up in the air though, I think it a normal human would struggle to lift a gun like that and so it just adds that little bit more post-human vibe :D.

Ā

Thanks for the comments guys. I should have an update for either these or my Night Lords very soon.

Ā

Nemac

Thanks Augustus :), I thought about that after the IF test model haha. Hopefully they will be half as good as yours when I am done with my small force.

Ā

Iā€™ve also started painting Lysander so he should be ready fairly soon.
