Necronaut
@Mazer Rackham refresh my memory, if you please: were there fixed supply costs to apply weapon upgrades? Our OOC thread is getting to be comically long, so it might be worth updating the character/data thread with all of this sundry/supplemental information if it hasn't already been captured there so we're not all having to blindly search in here. To wit: were I to request/bargain with Xerxes to apply some manner of upgrade to Ukalegon's melta pistol (let's say Arm Mounting from Deathwatch Core, for example) would I be looking at an infamy test on top of spending components (I'm thinking yes per the RAW)? There is the craftsmanship level progression path, which you provided as an example in your second post in the Char/Data thread, but does that apply to weapon/armour upgrades as well? Not all of the stuff might be of imminent use - I’d figure actual Arbites or Ordo case files are not really available at our Infamy but there might be copies / biographies of famous Inquisitiors or heretics, local heresies or such. There are no fixed costs. I examine the quality, availability, size, scope and scale of the project etc of the Item required and then apply my judgement to what is reasonable: Hagga's Trophy Rack - 5 Components. Kraggan's Machine Trait Upgrade - 30 Components, because he already had a few upgrades there. 1 hour ago, Necronaut said: To wit: were I to request/bargain with Xerxes to apply some manner of upgrade to Ukalegon's melta pistol (let's say Arm Mounting from Deathwatch Core, for example) would I be looking at an infamy test on top of spending components (I'm thinking yes per the RAW)? No. You're spending Resources, which are a team pool. It's designed to enable you to do selfish stuff which will cause friction within the team when someone inevitably wants a heated seat for their power armour. You would only make an Infamy Test to threaten someone into doing the work for nothing. 1 hour ago, Necronaut said: There is the craftsmanship level progression path, which you provided as an example in your second post in the Char/Data thread, but does that apply to weapon/armour upgrades as well? This is one reason why there are no fixed costs. It will vary from item to item, and the list of items is inexhaustible. The answer is: it depends. If we take your melta pistol arm mounting for example, we apply an upgrade to it. That's it. The upgrade improves the rarity of the weapon, but it doesn't increase Quality. You need the Tech to do the work - if he demands payment in a favour, that's up to him. Infamy only comes into it if you don't want to uphold your end of the bargain. He then makes a test to apply the upgrade (depending, again, on what it is). If you want to make an Infamy Test to then get, say, a gunsight for it, then you would be testing against the higher Rarity of the item. Once your gun/helmet/bum-scrubber hits Unique, that's it, no more upgrades other than to quality. The final nail in this coffin, would be, of course, daemonic possession. Does that make any sense? 1 hour ago, Mojake said: If my first Operate roll is bad let's make it an L plate! Stabilisers are 10 Components. Xin Ceithan
More questions! Are we conducting all contact with the RT via our resident con man ? Could I describe the inquiry as a sort of relayed text / letter to our new benefactors? Also - is it possible to have look at the Drukhari bodies without any breaking stasis? Or at least put the lid back on afterwards? Or will they decay if we open the lid? Just weighing my options here. *Sucks in air through teeth* I'd say 20 Components. 10 for the mounting, 10 for the re-working of the mechanisms to work with the new-fangled setup. Tech-Use test for the build. Of course if whoever is building it gets 4 DoF, your gun gets broke and you're back to that fork. 21 minutes ago, Xin Ceithan said: Are we conducting all contact with the RT via our resident con man? Well, looking at where the conversation left, we can assume that Crux'as would levy his deal/proposals before the RT at one go in a back and forth the RT would be comfortable with - trade deals would be expected to carry several paragraphs, risk analysis and agreements, so wouldn't be a problem. 21 minutes ago, Xin Ceithan said: Also - is it possible to have look at the Drukhari bodies without any breaking stasis? Yes, you can try to ACQ at any point eligible, but can only make the attempt/s once per point. Essentially you must either: Move to a new location Events change the nature of the place Your Infamy increases and you come back to the same place That's about it. It's kind of like the grabber game...just have to keep trying and have patience.. EDIT: I'll update us again on Tuesday, folks post as you see fit. Might want to start your prep for Mission Launch. Mazer Rackham
Certainly - all in, a suit of heavy carapace will be -10 to your Infamy Test. Alternatively, if you wish to 'up-armour' your Light Carapace by +1 AP, this will cost 10 Supplies. Mazer Rackham
@Machine God Light Carapace is a bit of a bugger, since it's Rare (-10). If you trade-in it drops a step, to become Scarce (+0), so it nets you nothing. This is why I offered the alternative of Supplies, since Heavy Carapace is only +1AP anyway, and you would likely have ablative plates, flak etc hanging about to just make it (you have armourer etc, so it's a trivial matter to up-armour something you already have. If you trade the Light Carapace in for Supplies, it's really a non-starter, as then you'd be breaking down for 5 Supplies, only to have to make Heavy Carapace for double that, as the 10 Supplies is based on upgrading your existing kit. @A.T. With the Orthoproxy kit, do you want to go for Resistance (Machine Curse) and we can make it a Very Rare (-20), or Resistance (Scrapcode) for Rare (-10)? How does that sound? Since this is an invention for the game, negotiation is open for input on how your Character would work this. Machine God
@Mazer Rackham - Thank you for the explanation. It's a bit of both on Kraggan's side as he doesn't have Light Carapace on his head only Good Craftsmanship Cranium Armour, so he needs to create a Heavy Carapace Helm which is +6AP. Mazer Rackham
Didn't realise you didn't have the helmet. However the rating won't change. Heavy Carapace isn't affected by how much of it you want, just how Rare it is, so it's still -10 for just the bonce bucket. If you wanted to make only the head bucket, that's still going to be 10 Supplies since you're essentially crafting from scratch. Using Supplies means there will be no test. If you wanted to Up-armour your Light Carapace and make the helmet it's going to be 20 Supplies, without a Test. You've got plenty of Supplies at the minute, it's Components you're really hurting for.
