Ripper.McGuirl
I think the new plastics are all awesome and the lady heads are a totally fine and cool addition. GW made all of this up and they can, and do, and have always, and will continue to change whatever they want whenever they want. And that’s good. Because otherwise, there would never be anything new, nothing would ever be revealed ever again, and there would be no reason to make or buy anything anymore. I am totally fine with it. Even the Primaris I never loved but also, who cares? Just use your old models. Why be mad? Except the way they pronounce Arbites . I will stay mad about forever. Teetengee
I really like the female head sculpts, which are either somewhat androgenous and thus have some more flexibility, or clearly female without falling into the traps of looking too waifish or supermodel. These faces look like they belong to people who spend their days killing the :cuss: out of people, and that's great. I am curious to see how they size up to marine heads, as I'd like to make some female possessed at some point, and I'm guessing it won't be hard or expensive to buy the female custodes heads on the secondary bits market. Shame about the loss of leg aquillae, even if I think the infantry sculpts overall are quite nice with the thinner proportions. If I end up starting a custodes army, I'd be tempted to get a couple of the old legs, bluestuff mould the old legs for the icon to apply to the new ones. Zoatibix
If the tanks end up in the 40K codex, that’s a strong incentive to re-start Custodes. I can justify a dual-use army to myself, both in financial and physical terms whereas I would struggle if it’s just for HH. That game doesn’t get played much in my area. I agree about the plainness of the. I would have preferred a little more bulk and decoration. I can assure you there isn’t an answer that isn't intended to put off purchases, or create division in product lines. Once again though, you're quoting what they said at the start of 10th, they might say differently at the start of 11th which will be very close to these kits releasing. m0nolith
I’ve been here since 2nd edition, and 80% of the lore of this universe have been soft retcons like this. Know what’s an even bigger retcon? Joe
I think, ultimately, it's fine to question retcons and the lore (both new and old); on a subjective level, people will decide for themselves if they think something was handled satisfactorily / unsatisfactorily. There's definitely a great deal to be said about the benefit of hindsight as well, and not getting caught up in the moment or letting yourself get overly emotional - particularly when you remember that this is ultimately an entirely voluntary hobby and as an individual we are capable of walking away entirely if we disagree with the direction something is going (case in point - I stopped playing 40,000 entirely for a decade as I wasn't keen on the way it had been going, and still remain leery to this day). Sticking around for the sake of sticking around and dragging other people down isn't healthy nor appropriate behaviour. It's fine to share opinions and such, however treating them as fact or trying to browbeat others into your line of thinking isn't on. But chuds lose their minds when girls are added as an option to their toy dollies. Let's be real though, that's a false equivalence. The Squats were reintroduced after twenty-odd years of in the form of the Leagues, with new lore establishing who they are as well as explaining that the Squats that we had were a divergent group aligned with the Imperium. It also came with stealth model support for the old Squats through the Necromunda releases. That's a pretty big distinction compared to a sudden change to a faction that had been established for nigh on thirty years, had seen significant and increasing development for fifteen years, and had been playable on the tabletop for a decade. The decision to make that retcon was so recent that published material released shortly after the change didn't reflect it (that coffee table book). The Squats being eaten by Tyranids isn't even full canon from my understanding. It was an explanation provided by Jervis Johnson on an old forum when he was asked what happened to Squats and accepted by the community, but didn't appear in any published material until the Votann codex. I've seen this and similar arguments a few times, even in this thread. But there's a distinction to be made between the introduction of new lore, such as the Rogal Dorn Tank, changing or redefining existing lore, as with the Leagues, and changing lore but saying it's always been that way, as with the Custodes changes. No one would have batted an eyelid if GW had listened to ADB and made the Custodes co-ed at the time of the First Heretic, but they didn't. Now there's backlash because people don't like changes coming out of nowhere for what quite clearly appears to be out of universe reasons. hd3, Fire Golem, NorthernUltramarines and 7 others 8 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387438-plastic-legio-custodes-battlegroup-coronus-grav-carrier-venatari-liber/page/11/#findComment-6152390 Share on other sites

Then what does it matter that some of the Custodes are women? Is it a soft retcon? Yes, as there has been many times in the history of this universe. But what does it matter in the wider context of the universe? Nothing really, other than maybe adding more variety to a faction that very much needs it, and this is coming from someone that loves the Custodes. The reasoning they used is good imo, not enough noble sons, so some had to be daughters. Due to the custom nature of making a custodian, the baseline human does not have to be male like in the case for space marines which are more of an assembly line. But genuinely, how does any of this affect anything, anywhere in this universe. Do you think your Space Marines are now going to start including women? Is that what people are afraid of? I really do feel that this entire thing started because GW sat down after deciding it was time to update the Custodes, remembered that they rejected Female Custodes initially because the models were already done and decided to go ahead with it because they were about to update the models anyway and they'd not really done anything that required them all being men anyway. We got our first announcement of this roughly when they would've just locked in the designs for this wave. Crimson Longinus
Custodes are relatively new army, they've existed in the game only for couple of editions. Text that (sorta) implied them being all male only existed in their 8th edition codex, it was already gone in 9th, and now in 10th female Custodes were explicitly introduced. This is not retconning some long established central lore, it is just elaboration of relatively recent lore. (I am not counting their very early iterations, where they were totally different and arguably not even any sort of super humans. Them being superhuman golden armoured giants instead of just shirtless normal humans with laser spears in itself is already a way more massive retcon than some of them being female is.) Oh, and the exact same thing happened to Imperial Knights, but no one even noticed. In their first codex it was said that the pilots were sons of noble houses, but in the next one that text was changed to be non-gender-specific and then later we got explicitly female pilots.
