From the album: Flat Tire Game
Top of the first turn, Mekhitar Warp Timed one of her Disco Lords into my Land Raider and blew it up. Didn't lose any of the Terminators, and minimal damage all around, except to my Sicaran, which took 5 mortal wounds from the explosion. I'd also lost my Dark Shroud, but that's what it was there for.-

With the lockdown nearing its end in my part of the world I've been looking at playing a more competitive World Eaters list in the interest of participating in some tourneys, while still keeping a core of Berserkers. I've never participated in the competitive side of the hobby but with Faith and Fury I don't know that there has been a better time in a long time for a World Eater player to start. I've been doing some research and theorycrafting and I would like some input. First off, I see a lot of placing Chaos lists running three Arch Lord Discordants (though never in a Khorne / WE list). I tend to run two to three Maulerfiends and ALDs are at least as good at killing vehicles and very efficient at killing most other things as well. They also don't cost much more. So no brainer right? Drop the 'Fiends and buy two more ALDs to fill out a Supreme Command Detachment? In competitive play how reliant are ALD's on Magic? If you were to make a competitive as possible World Eaters list would you run ALDs? Would you run Daemon Engines at all? I've always run Berserkers and so long as I am playing CSM I will make room for them in my lists. I tend to run squads of eight in Rhinos with Powerfists and Chainaxes. In competitive Chaos lists when it comes to melee I see a lot of blobs; Possessed and Plaguebearers in particular. I also see a lot of MSUs of Warp Talons. I don't thing running Berserker bombs would be all that fun (running Possessed bombs doesn't look like fun). I could run MSUs of Berserkers in Rhinos for efficiency but I wonder how much work they can do after eating overwatch, on top of that I imagine it would be very hard for MSUs of Berserkers to hide from shooting by wrapping enemy units even with our new six inch consolidation. How would you run your Berserkers? Should I be concerned at all about being able to hide from shooting by wrapping enemy units? If you were to make a competitive as possible World Eaters list while still having it be a World Eaters list what would you include?

We obviously had quite the discussion about Assault Centurions. All-in on Centurions leaves room for little else: No Eliminators, no Primaris Troop Choices, etc. Triple Thunderfire Cannon: Taking one is an obvious choice, two even makes sense. Three seems a bit...excessive? If I could ask Andrew questions about his games, I would ask: Did you play Transhuman Physiology every round? A lot? Rarely? Typically did you SFTS the 3 Assault Cent squads every turn? With this many Cents it looks like the objective is to pin them in their DZ and just crush them under weight of fire. What percentage of the field was this the strategy? How many opponents do you spread out and manipulate the map? This list appears to be almost an anti-castle list. It feels like you built it with the intent of punishing Iron Hands lists that wanted to castle up (and any other castle-like lists). Was this the intent or a happy accident? Your only loss of the tournament appears to be Trevor Harris' Freebooterz ork list. Is 120 grots more than this list can handle, or does he just have a better way to control the board against your build?

The ITC format is very different from the standard GW missions, and one should adapt one's list to its scoring system. I'm very curious about what others think of this! So how do you do it? How do you design your list for secondary objectives? Of course, choosing secondary objectives depends on the opponent, but you can make some considerations in list building to make certain objectives easier. How do you design your list to achieve primary objectives? How do you get a kill turn 1? Which units do you bring to hold points? Which units take points? Which units do you avoid in ITC? Perhaps they give away points too easily, or perhaps their purpose doesn't fit those mission types. Which units are our best in ITC? E.g.: Infantry can hide safely in the lowest level of ruins (and charge from them), and that may make them more valuable than in GW missions. We can also outflank our infantry. I look forward to hearing your good ideas.
