Aasfresser
Oh, right, that makes perfect sense! I love how there's still the smallest hint towards a Tzeentchian background, but a marked difference from actual Thousand Sons. As for the familiar, I love that walking fish as well, so if you should ever find a good option for picking those up, make sure to get one for me as well Thank you. I wanted to keep the BL tzeentchian CSM more suptle. Only because you follow the Changer of Ways doesn't mean you have to go full bird-tentacle-monster. And I like the idea that every one of them is a mutated writhing mass under their armor, like the asp. champion in the CSM squad. Just showing little signs of corruption. That's what the Helbrutes are for. So far I had no luck with the familiars It's such a terrific, gritty paint scheme. The newest additions will look great in those colors, most of all your Huron conversion. Thanks! I'm looking forward to paint him. Just have to get a bit more confident again. I have to devise a plan so I can steal the dread...and the rest of your army...gnahahahhaah Try it. I'll be waiting. Just have to stock up on hydrofluoric acid ;) Those are by far my favorite tzeentch marines ever Thanks! Didn't know the will be so liked. I wanted to keep them subtle and quick to paint. The new codes gave my BL a little boost till the TS codex will drop. Love the claw guy! The added kneepad looks great on him too! And the csm and chosen look fantastic! Very nice gritty paint job! Thank you! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311777-aasfressers-thousand-sons/page/8/#findComment-4865735 Share on other sites
Atia
So, in the end I decided against the stolas. They cover up to much of the Magnus chest piece. If I'd ever do a second TS contemptor I'd go for the stolas and a more subtle chest without horns. Now to clean up a bit. Your Osiron Dreadnought turned out great buddy - can't wait to see him painted up! Aasfresser
As it is with distractions, there are always several of them. I wanted to see the new Plague Marines in BL colors and here is the first almost finished one. Still have to do the leather strips, the wooden bolter casing and some more rust. And the base. But I like him so far. And I'm not sure anymore about the Bringers of Decay symbol in gold... looks stupid. I'll have to repaint it in yellow and sneak some more Eyes of Horus on him. For the black I tried Prospekts drybrush precipice for his Sable Specters, although I adapted it to my BL scheme. I like how it looks, but I think I'll return to layering for the next one. Maybe. ________________________ Your Osiron Dreadnought turned out great buddy - can't wait to see him painted up! Thank you Atia. I primed the legs today. Work can slowly begin. Marqol
Not thought about death guard in the Black Legion colours. The bits of exposed flesh really stand out with the black. Looks great! GuitaRasmus
Very cool and different colour scheme. :) If I may make suggestion, how about painting helmet white or bone? It would enable you to better show some dirt and grime, and might make it "pop" better on the table. It would enable you to better show some dirt and grime, and might make it "pop" better on the table. Your suggestions are always welcome! I was thinking about something like that, but white no matter how dirty might clash to much with the rest of my BL force. I was thinking about painting one shoulder pad in Death Guard colors. According to the old BL supplement every god aligned warband within the BL has one colored shoulder pad. And you're right, there is some more grime and rust missing. I'm waiting for some new stuff to arrive, my Modelmates Liquid Rust is empty and apparently Modelmates went out of business :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311777-aasfressers-thousand-sons/page/8/#findComment-4866794 Share on other sites
Sagentus
Really like the colour scheme! It is different, but that is good. The paining of the shoulder pad could work, I would suggest doing it on his left shoulder pad, I think it would work well with the symbol (once painted yellow) :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311777-aasfressers-thousand-sons/page/8/#findComment-4866943 Share on other sites
Isengrin
(...) and apparently Modelmates went out of business WHAT?! Nice work on the Plague Marine. The symbol on his shoulder pad will definitely stand out better in yellow than in gold and you can't go wrong with more rust. I agree with GuitaRasmus though that painting one ore two bits of armour with a second colour would work wonders, maybe just part of the head or one shoulder pad (as you've said as well). DG green sounds good to me, but how about a sickly yellow? DG green sounds good to me, but how about a sickly yellow? The fact that modlemates went out off buisness was a shock for ne, too. I loved their liquid rust and verdigris. As for the the suggested yellow, I don't think it will work to well with a yellow symbol. I'll stick with DGish green on one shoulder and maybe one kneepad. I finally started work on the contemptors legs and base. There'll be an update in hin when the blue is done. Aasfresser
I drybrushed another Black Legion CSM, one of my MK III marines. I'm starting to get fond of that look. The difference between him and the older ones is barely noticeable. Just to add some Legion symbols and some ash on the base. The light is a bit off, seems like I have to build another photobox. Aasfresser
I think he is done now. After applying matt varnish he became a bit glossy... I added a small cthonian serpents glyph to his left knee pad to add a link to his past as a Son of Horus and the SotC symbol to his left shoulder pad. Something still off with the light though... __________________________ Your blackies look totally badass. Aasfresser
Awesome model! I really like the horns on the mkIII helmet! Thank you Bubbles, you should try this with your Iron Warriors, too! Are the new icons decals, or are you really good at freehanding icons? All freehand. I'm really not good at this, but I'm getting there some day... Wow he looks fantastic completed, love the little details like the kneepads! Looking forward to seeing more! Hopefully you will soon. As I'm drowning in work and distractions are more than welcome expect some half finished minis to pop up soon. And a contemptor leg. That guy looks great Are you planning to do a full blown Black Legion army including black-glad Cult Marines? Thank you Atia. I'm still a Thousand Sons player, collector and painter first, but everything that won't be in the codex becomes part of my Black Legion. So expect more BL plaquemarines, some BL berzerkers and so on. Only thing that might not happen are BL Rubricae. Why choose black when you can have glorious blue? (Ok, maybe one squad with some third party bits I ordered before GW released the new Rubricae.) Aasfresser
And as it is so often with having no time for hobby stuff, let me present you a terminator I started in 2014. Again my matt varnish turned it glossy. I use Vallejo Matt Varnish diluted with a bit of Vallejo Thinner Medium. He is still good enough. Arms are magnetized. This is the squads champion that I painted back in 2014. I still have ca 10 more TDA in my bitz box, don't know why I bought them back then. The Traitor
Maybe you should consider changing your varnish ;)... I like the terminator, the looking-by-the-side pose fits him well, but I'm still amazed by how good your Sons of the Cyclops icon is, it looks perfect! I like the terminator, the looking-by-the-side pose fits him well, but I'm still amazed by how good your Sons of the Cyclops icon is, it looks perfect!Seems like the reasonable thing to do. I Always thin down my paint and here I only lightly drybrushed and because of the matt varnish it looks ab bit thick and glossy. As for the SotC symbol, that only looks so good because I practiced alot in the Thousand Sons Of which still looks Like a shrimp not a dragon/serpentinen when I so it. The red tzeentch glyph ist a freehand too, btw. Aasfresser
This is what I pledged for BCKs Character Conversion Challenge: I, Aasfresser pledge to convert Lord Arkos, the Faithless for the Chaos Space Marines/Alpha Legion in the Character Conversion Challenge and finish on or before October 2nd 2017 to be eligible for judgment. All the parts I'm using are generic Space Marine and CSM parts, except the old GW Alpha Legion shoulder pad. Still a mess on that picture because I can't decide which body, combi-melta or helmet to use. Also some bitz are still on ebay. Huge thanks to Excessus, who reminded me of Arkos existence! Atia
Can't wait to see what you will do with Arkos. Regarding the varnish - yeah, change it. I know some people aren't happy with purity seal either, but atleast you can use Lahmian Medium afterwards in case you get frosting - maybe a coat of it over your glossy 'nator would help?
