    Square Pants Bob

    By Bouargh

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

    Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

    Jagieŀŀo inspects their prizes

The Resistance have finally captured the war machines they believe they require to make their stand.   Brutus, the Malcador, reliable, dependable the spine of their battleline. She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. Ordo Celestia

Ordo Celestia is equal parts military order & religious institution, acting as the ruling body of the Golden Kingdom. Though Eden has always had a militia & leadership, only recently have these become reformed into this new Ordo. Founded by Father Abraham (formerly the Grey Knight, captain Abram), Ordo Celestia is an organized military force devoted to the defense of Eden & all worlds controlled by the Golden Kingdom, as well as being the primary forces deployed to conquer ot

"By my heart I spurn thee..."

Well another weekend has come and gone and well I got more done on my Exorcists.      I really need to get cracking on my 12 Months of Hobby Vow, but work has been disagreeing with my hobby time....along with waiting on bases to arrive (expected this week) so hopefully I can crank out the 6 Death Watch kill team members and do an easy scheme on the Necrons.

A bit of backstory

Though called the “Scions of the Golden Kingdom” the Imperium refers to them as “the most Heathenous Cult.” According to Imperial records, they are renegades, mostly human, who are enemies & traitors to the Imperium of Man. They not only deny the divinity of the god Emperor, but they also proclaim him to be a deceiver & a hypocrite. Not much is known about them & any records that even mention them or any members associated with them at all are to be purged. This includes encounters &

By my will I deny thee......

So I finally started working on my Exorcists Angel of Death Kill Team as part of my Knives in the Shadows vow,     Previously on my Exorcists I used Rub and Buff metallic paint/ wax buff.  This time the models are being primed Army Painter Matte Black then sprayed with Plate Mail Metal.  Once dried a mixture of Speedpaint 2.0 Medium and Carmine Dragon 1:2 mixture applying to the armor.      the color seemsto be a shade darker which is fine. Wrapping up 2024 and looking forward.

It's been a while since I did a blog post, in fact I haven't posted since completing my Call to arms vow back in the summer. I'd like to say I had a great excuse for not posting, but it was mainly just being distracted by other things such as playing Space  Marine II. I have still managed to carry on building and painting a fair few models in this time and having a free time over the Christmas holidays I've gotten quite a bit more finished.    2024 Completed:     Fo

What if HH Mechanicum units stepped into Indomitus era? - Part 3

Hi Folks,   A third fantasy for the "What-if HH minis were introduced in the 40K SKitarii setting" game series. Thsi time with the Axiarch, a Secutarii leader that will probably prove to be of little to no use in most 40k era game setting.       It is still a Marshal but with some extra buff, it looks like more to a SM Captain in Terminator armour, so set him tentatively at 95 pts, as the SM Captain...   What do you think of this USO (Unidentif

2025 is upon us, Happy New Year.

I hope everyone is having a safe and Happy New Year!   Time for the annual, "What do I have planned for the hobby,"  as I previous posted (here), one of the big plans was to return to @Grotsmasha's  12 Months of Hobby XXXX (2025 here).  As promised I have my January 2025 vow submitted.  I have a bunch of Kill Teams to build and paint and well a lot of armies.     Kill Teams   Angels of Death- Deathwatch and Exorcists are currently WIP Phobos Strike

The Mystery Begins

Fragment of a document reportedly recovered from the space hulk designated Herald of Misery in M38 by the rogue trader Ibram Subicere: Accompanied by a demi-squad of the Inceptors Chapter, Captain Subicere and his crew aboard the Torchbearer were exploring the Anguis Cluster near the Maelstrom. There they discovered the Herald of Misery. Auspex readings indicated that the vessel was comprised of several major vessels and a number of smaller ones, including a few Imperial vessels and pre-

The Accusers Chapter

The second DIY Chapter I created at the B&C was the Accusers. Actually, that might not be an accurate way of describing it. The Accusers may have existed. Or maybe they didn't.   My goal with this chapter was to explore some of the preconceptions of the community. At one point, the size of the 2nd Founding was set in stone, as defined by the Apocrypha of Skaros. Though many hobbyists tried to shoehorn their DIY chapter into that founding, conventional wisdom was generally to avoid

Back in to the Trenches!

Well Happy New Years all and well the first post of the New Year will be #125.    Well as I proceed down the path of the Long Vigil, I keep thinking of the basing scheme I want to do for my  Deathwatch.  I could continue with my base schemes:   Urbans: Shown on my Grey Knights    On My Skitarii Marshall (WIP)   Exorcists Scout Squad Shu'kar   54th Psian Jakals   My Horus Heresy Ravenguard    Temple

Honor Shield of Brule Onathemes (the Spear-Slayer)

The Avenging Lions chapter sends battle-brothers to the Legio [Bolter & Chainsword]. One of the battle-brothers that has been seconded to the Legio over the millennia of the chapter's existence was Brule Onathemes, known as the Spear-Slayer.   Brule Onathemes Pict capture in 709.M39 upon secondment to the Legio Bolter & Chainsword   Formerly a battle-brother of the 3rd Tactical Squad, 5th Company, Brule was awarded the Imperial Laurel for his valor during th

Still in the Past, But Closer.....Commissions 2023

And here we are 18 months later and all of 2023 to cover....   Kicking off 2023 was actually a minor expansion of 2022's big commission. It consisted of 1 Necron Overlord, and a whole stack more of terrain, and took up the entirety of January to complete.     Next up was Dystopian Wars commission for a USA Fleet in a striking Red, White and Blue scheme, consisting of 25 Ships. These started out fine, but ended up turning into a 8 month long ordeal (The initial quo

2024 - Year in Review - Sin Eaters

2024 - YEAR IN REVIEW THE SIN EATERS   My first major project on returning to the hobby - well, the first once I liked enough to stick with properly - finally hit that all-important 2,000 point mark earlier this year. It's currently 2,070, meaning I can swap out a character as required, as I did this last weekend in a final spurt of tabletop play for the year. I'll go into the individual units in a moment, but just at a top-level, I'm very happy with these chaps. The Crusade, thou

The Avenging Lions Chapter

The first DIY chapter I ever created here at the B&C, and still my favorite, is the Avenging Lions. This chapter was inspired by several things: There aren't enough chapters that use brown as their main color. No one has any right to tell anyone else that they can't create a successor chapter of the Black Templars. No one has any right to tell anyone else that they must use the Index Astartes article format. I suppose I was being a bit contrarian in creating this chap

Teaching Kids 40k

Well after a furious build session this weekend, I was able to build the my son's Hand of Khaine Kill Team consisting of 10 Striking Scorpions and 5 Dire Avengers, and need to get him 5 Howling Banshees.     to go against his brother's Death Guard     and his other brothers's Hierotek Circle which I need to get him a box of Immortals/ Deathmark (2 Gauss Blaster, 1 Tesla Carbine, and 2 Deathmarks) plus other 2 Characters; Chronomancer and Psychomancer.

An introduction (of sorts)

I'm not nearly as active either in the hobby or here on the Bolter and Chainsword as I would like to be, or even as much as I used to be. Such is life. However, I have plans to increase my hobby activity. We'll see if Fate wills those plans to be...   If you're wondering about the image I chose for this blog post, those are the minis that got me into the game - the Space Elves. They became the Eldar, and are now the Aeldari. While I love the craftworlders, I have always loved the merce

12 Months of Hobby 2024 - a Closing Report

Hi Folks,   As year ends, I keep on going a summary of these 12 past months and their contribution to my Bitz box managment and Pile of Shame reduction. The 12 Months of Hobby Challenge is and has been a great incentive to keep on working on projects on a regular basis, without being too distracted by the "Last-in, First-out syndrom". It helps keeping the momentum on stuff left aside for too long.     Here is the summary:   January The year started o
